The Education and Research Center for Marine Resources and Environment (Marine Center) of the Kagoshima University, Facultyof Fisheries was established in 2000. It is located in Kagoshima city on the Satsuma peninsula facing the Kagoshima Bay. MarineCenter is involved in teaching, research, and the conduct of fieldworks for various teaching and research activities in the Faculty ofFisheries. The work of the Centre is focused on three main fields: Aquatic Biodiversity; Conservation of Aquatic Environment; andDevelopment and Management of the Aquatic Environment. It contributes significantly to the development of fisheries in Japan andSoutheast Asia.The Marine Center manages research vessels, diving equipment and fishing gears, holds monthly seminars for students and staff,and occasionally publishes a newsletter on fishery technology. Monitoring data on Kagoshima Bay collected by the research vesselNansei-maru is provided to fishermen in the area. In the field station at Nagashima-cho, another local monitoring for fishermen isconducted and a poly-culture of abalone–seacucumber-seaweeds has been initiated by staff of the station. Guidelines for the use offacilities and equipments belonging to the Center are provided for interested scientists and students and are included in this report.Previously, activities of the Center have been published as “Bulletin of Marine Resources and Environment, Kagoshima”, but thisbulletin has been absorbed to the Mem. Fac. Fish. Kagoshima Univ.
