The database lists all the specimens or lots (9 000) of Tunicates housed in the Paris Museum. It is the largest or second largest tunicate collection in the World, based on the number of specimens and the number of types. All the specimens are identified to species. The collection is principally the result of the active research of two people (Claude Monniot & Francoise Monniot) over the course of forty years.

The collection covers all groups of crustaceans (except the very rare Remipedia and Tantulocarida). Consisting of some 100 000 inventoried lots arranged in systematic order, and with about 6000 type specimens, this collection is one of the richest in the world for its diversity. The collection was established before 1800 with the collections of the explorer naturalists (voyages of Bougainville, Savigny, Dumont D'Urville ...) and then continued, notably with those of the Travailleur and the Talisman. The collection has benefited from the work of prestigious scientists like Jean-Baptiste Lamarck, Latreille, H. and A. Milne-Edwards, and Chevreux. The specimens, measuring 1 mm to over 2 m in size, are mainly preserved in alcohol. Some are kept dry (old collections such as the historical collection of crabs), others as slide preparations. The collection includes worldwide material of marine, freshwater and terrestrial crustaceans (including pest species). The collection grows 1 to 1.5% per year on average, varying according to the group, thanks to numerous donations and deposits. For 25 years the "Tropical Deep-Sea Benthos" (formely MUSORSTOM) expeditions have resulted in the largest collection in the world from the deep-water (bathyal) environment.

The collection of cnidarians, comprising about 80 000 lots, combines old specimens from all oceans. These specimens are preserved in either alcohol, dry, as slides, or in a separate herbaria for some hydroids and sea fans. The oldest specimens (1706-1707) of Hydroids and Octocorallia of the collection are preserved in herbaria made by Sébastien Vaillant. The story is revealed on the label and recalls the big names such as Peron and Lesueur; Savigny; Jean-Baptiste Lamarck; Quoy and Gaimard; Valenciennes; and H. Milne-Edwards and Haime. Generations of scientists have enriched the collection, thanks to naturalist expeditions like that of Egypt (1800-1804), Baudin on the western coast of Australia, the Astrolabe (1837-1840), and the two French Antarctic expeditions in early twentieth century. For forty years, various campaigns in the Atlantic (Thalassa, Biogas ...), the sub-Antarctic (on the Marion Dufresne), the Indo-Pacific (program MUSORSTOM / Deep-Sea Benthos), and the great expeditions (Santo, Vanuatu 2006, Guadeloupe 2012) made for the "Planet revisited" program, enriched the collection. Scientists donate collections made throughout their careers, as is the case of the collections of G. Faure, J. Laborel, M. Pichon, B. Salvat, H. Zibrowius ... Specimens sampled by J. Goy in the Mediterranean, Brazil, and Australia expanded the collection of Jellyfish.

The collection of marine, terrestrial and freshwater molluscs is primarily a scientific but also a historical and museological collection. It includes about 800 000 lots, totaling approximately 5 million specimens from around the world. These specimens are preserved as either dry collection (dried animals, shells) or in alcohol. The type collection contains 11 000 types of nominal species. The collection dates back to Michel Adanson (shells of Senegal, 1757) and Jean-Baptiste Lamarck. It then increased through donations of amateur collectors, institutional legacies and purchases, and the activity of scientists from both the Museum and other institutions. This diversity of sources continues today, but large expeditions have been very important from the late eighteenth century through to the colonial era, a role they continue to play to this day. The "Tropical Deep-Sea benthos" oceanographic expeditions (formerly MUSORSTOM), launched in the early 1980s to sample the benthos of the tropical South and West-Pacific, have resulted in the collection becoming the best in the world for deep-sea faunas (100-1.500 m bathymetric zone). It is particularly rich in micromolluscs. Historical sections of the collection contain representatives of terrestrial and freshwater molluscs that are now extinct.

The aim is to provide a general view of the echinoderm collection of the Paris Museum, which is primarily a scientific collection. The naturalist Jean-Baptiste Lamarck, one of the founders of the Theory of Evolution, was the first to really establish the collection of echinoderms at the Paris Museum. There are both dry and alcohol-preserved lots. Some sea cucumber specimens are preserved as microscopic preparations on slides. The number of lots is estimated at 500,000, of which 0.4% are types. Echinoderms have been collected in all oceans, at all latitudes. The largest numbers of specimens were collected relatively recently in the Indo-West Pacific. Echinoderms live exclusively in marine waters and at all depths. For 25 years intensive research programs have permitted huge collections to be obtained, especially from the Indo-Pacific and Antarctic regions. Most of the data entered so far are from these regions.
