    Stunting is one of the conditions where children experience chronic nutritional problems. Counseling activities on the importance of fish consumption in mothers and children as an effort to prevent stunting were held on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 in Sutera Hamlet, RT 09 RW 04, Makrampai Village, Tebas District, Sambas Regency. The targets in counseling activities are mothers and children. Makrampai village is one of the villages that experiences quite high stunting. This counseling activity aims to increase knowledge and understanding of good nutrition, especially the importance of eating fish in mothers and children as an effort to prevent stunting. The counseling activities went well and smoothly. Participants consisting of mothers and children who participated in the counseling activity were very active and enthusiastic, Participants had an understanding of the importance of consuming fish to fulfill body nutrition and one of the efforts to prevent stunting.

    A biomonitoring approach based on a single model species cannot be representative of the contaminations impacts on the ecosystem overall. As part of the Interreg DIADeM program (“Development of an integrated approach for the diagnosis of the water quality of the River Meuse”), a study was conducted to establish the proof of concept that the use of a multispecies active biomonitoring approach improves diagnostic of aquatic systems. The complementarity of the biomarker responses was tested in four model species belonging to various ecological compartments: the bryophyte Fontinalis antipyretica, the bivalve Dreissena polymorpha, the amphipod Gammarus fossarum and the fish Gasterosteus aculeatus. The species have been caged upstream and downstream from five wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in the Meuse watershed. After the exposure, a battery of biomarkers was measured and results were compiled in an Integrated Biomarker Response (IBR) for each species. A multispecies IBR value was then proposed to assess the quality of the receiving environment upstream the WWTPs. The effluent toxicity was variable according to the caged species and the WWTP. However, the calculated IBR were high for all species and upstream sites, suggesting that the water quality was already downgraded upstream the WWTP. This contamination of the receiving environment was confirmed by the multispecies IBR which has allowed to rank the rivers from the less to the most contaminated. This study has demonstrated the interest of the IBR in the assessment of biological impacts of a point-source contamination (WWTP effluent) but also of the receiving environment, thanks to the use of independent references. Moreover, this study has highlighted the complementarity between the different species and has emphasized the interest of this multispecies approach to consider the variability of the species exposition pathway and sensibility as well as the mechanism of contaminants toxicity in the final diagnosis.     Una amplia variedad de parásitos en su estado larvario pueden infectar a los peces, pero unnúmero reducido es considerado zoonótico. Entre ellos se encuentra el género Ascocotylecuyas metacercarias se enquistan en los órganos y tejidos de peces de todos los ambientes.Estos parásitos están asociados a factores socioculturales y comportamentales como el hábitode comer pescado crudo o deficientemente cocido. El riesgo de infección en los animalesdomésticos es importante, ya que las vísceras son ofrecidas a las mascotas. En varios países,incluido el nuestro, se están utilizando los subproductos y desperdicios de la pesca para laalimentación de cerdos y aves de producción, porque son una fuente calórica/proteica de bajocosto. Actualmente, varios actores, incluidos organismos estatales, fomentan el consumo decarne y subproductos de la pesca, pero existe escasa información y concientización en lapoblación de los posibles riesgos sanitarios de su ingesta. El objetivo del presente proyecto esidentificar las especies de Ascocotyle presentes en peces de diferentes ambientes, analizarlas lesiones producidas por las metacercarias y su posible potencial zoonótico. Para ello, seobtendrán ejemplares juveniles y adultos de peces autóctonos de los cuerpos de agua de laciudad de La Plata, de las lagunas situadas en Chascomús y Lezama, en Punta Lara y dossitios de la bahía de Samborombóm. Los peces de menor tamaño serán trasladados allaboratorio en bolsas plásticas con agua y O 2 . Los peces de tallas mayores, se obtendrán de lapesca artesanal y comercial, todos los ejemplares serán fijados en formaldehido al 10%.Luego se procederá a la inspección externa de los peces bajo microscopio estereoscópico o aojo desnudo en busca de lesiones y se realizará la necropsia para examinar la presencia deendoparásitos en la musculatura y órganos internos. Los parásitos se identificarán utilizandomarcadores nucleares y mitocondriales. El procesamiento de las muestras para microscopíaóptica se realizará según la técnica tradicional de inclusión en parafina. Los cortes secolorearán con técnicas histológicas e histoquímicas y además, se determinará el índice deproliferación celular y muerte celular. Por último, se inspeccionará la musculatura de pecesfrescos y ahumados de tallas comerciales en búsqueda de metacercarias, aquellas quepresenten movimientos serán administradas junto con el alimento a ratones de laboratorio(hospedadores definitivos). A la semana, se revisarán los ratones para evaluar la eficacia de lainfección experimental. A partir de los resultados se realizarán charlas de divulgación sobre laimportancia de los parásitos de la fauna silvestre y la necesidad de cocinar bien los alimentosy de no alimentar a las mascotas, a las aves de corral y porcinos con vísceras crudas.     Stunting is one of the conditions where children experience chronic nutritional problems. Counseling activities on the importance of fish consumption in mothers and children as an effort to prevent stunting were held on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 in Sutera Hamlet, RT 09 RW 04, Makrampai Village, Tebas District, Sambas Regency. The targets in counseling activities are mothers and children. Makrampai village is one of the villages that experiences quite high stunting. This counseling activity aims to increase knowledge and understanding of good nutrition, especially the importance of eating fish in mothers and children as an effort to prevent stunting. The counseling activities went well and smoothly. Participants consisting of mothers and children who participated in the counseling activity were very active and enthusiastic, Participants had an understanding of the importance of consuming fish to fulfill body nutrition and one of the efforts to prevent stunting.

    A biomonitoring approach based on a single model species cannot be representative of the contaminations impacts on the ecosystem overall. As part of the Interreg DIADeM program (“Development of an integrated approach for the diagnosis of the water quality of the River Meuse”), a study was conducted to establish the proof of concept that the use of a multispecies active biomonitoring approach improves diagnostic of aquatic systems. The complementarity of the biomarker responses was tested in four model species belonging to various ecological compartments: the bryophyte Fontinalis antipyretica, the bivalve Dreissena polymorpha, the amphipod Gammarus fossarum and the fish Gasterosteus aculeatus. The species have been caged upstream and downstream from five wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in the Meuse watershed. After the exposure, a battery of biomarkers was measured and results were compiled in an Integrated Biomarker Response (IBR) for each species. A multispecies IBR value was then proposed to assess the quality of the receiving environment upstream the WWTPs. The effluent toxicity was variable according to the caged species and the WWTP. However, the calculated IBR were high for all species and upstream sites, suggesting that the water quality was already downgraded upstream the WWTP. This contamination of the receiving environment was confirmed by the multispecies IBR which has allowed to rank the rivers from the less to the most contaminated. This study has demonstrated the interest of the IBR in the assessment of biological impacts of a point-source contamination (WWTP effluent) but also of the receiving environment, thanks to the use of independent references. Moreover, this study has highlighted the complementarity between the different species and has emphasized the interest of this multispecies approach to consider the variability of the species exposition pathway and sensibility as well as the mechanism of contaminants toxicity in the final diagnosis. En varios países,incluido el nuestro, se están utilizando los subproductos y desperdicios de la pesca para laalimentación de cerdos y aves de producción, porque son una fuente calórica/proteica de bajocosto. Actualmente, varios actores, incluidos organismos estatales, fomentan el consumo decarne y subproductos de la pesca, pero existe escasa información y concientización en lapoblación de los posibles riesgos sanitarios de su ingesta. El objetivo del presente proyecto esidentificar las especies de Ascocotyle presentes en peces de diferentes ambientes, analizarlas lesiones producidas por las metacercarias y su posible potencial zoonótico. Para ello, seobtendrán ejemplares juveniles y adultos de peces autóctonos de los cuerpos de agua de laciudad de La Plata, de las lagunas situadas en Chascomús y Lezama, en Punta Lara y dossitios de la bahía de Samborombóm. Los peces de menor tamaño serán trasladados allaboratorio en bolsas plásticas con agua y O 2 . Los peces de tallas mayores, se obtendrán de lapesca artesanal y comercial, todos los ejemplares serán fijados en formaldehido al 10%.Luego se procederá a la inspección externa de los peces bajo microscopio estereoscópico o aojo desnudo en busca de lesiones y se realizará la necropsia para examinar la presencia deendoparásitos en la musculatura y órganos internos. Los parásitos se identificarán utilizandomarcadores nucleares y mitocondriales. El procesamiento de las muestras para microscopíaóptica se realizará según la técnica tradicional de inclusión en parafina. Los cortes secolorearán con técnicas histológicas e histoquímicas y además, se determinará el índice deproliferación celular y muerte celular. Por último, se inspeccionará la musculatura de pecesfrescos y ahumados de tallas comerciales en búsqueda de metacercarias, aquellas quepresenten movimientos serán administradas junto con el alimento a ratones de laboratorio(hospedadores definitivos). A la semana, se revisarán los ratones para evaluar la eficacia de lainfección experimental. A partir de los resultados se realizarán charlas de divulgación sobre laimportancia de los parásitos de la fauna silvestre y la necesidad de cocinar bien los alimentosy de no alimentar a las mascotas, a las aves de corral y porcinos con vísceras crudas.
