The priming potential of atmospheres is a deep-rooted intuition among designers, and we wished to consolidate evidence through a physiological signal-based experiment. Our ANFA presentation illustrated the general theoretical framework, the tested protocol, and the gathered results. This experimental paradigm proposed a strategy to study, locate, and measure atmospheres, namely the dimension of the ineffable par excellence for our architectural experiences. ispartof: ANFA 20th Anniversary Conference 2023 ispartof: The Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture (ANFA) 20th Anniversary Conference — Inspired by the Mind: Architecture through the Lens of Neuroscience location:La Jolla status: published

The seasonal and spatial variability of the CO2 system parameters and air-sea CO2 exchange was studied in the Northeast Atlantic through the Northwest African coastal transitional area between the Canary Islands and the Strait of Gibraltar. High spatio-temporal resolution data were collected by a Surface Ocean Observation Platform (SOOP) aboard a volunteer observing ship (VOS) from February 2019 to February 2020. The variability of the CO2 fugacity in seawater (fCO2,sw) was strongly driven by the seasonal pattern of the sea surface temperature (SST), which increased with latitude and was lower throughout the year in the high-intense coastal upwelling areas. The fCO2,sw increased from winter to summer by 11.84 ± 0.28 μatm ºC-1 in the Canary archipelago and by 11.71 ± 0.25 μatm ºC-1 along the northwest African continental shelf. The thermal to non-thermal effect ratio (T/B) was approximately 2, with minimum values along the African coastline explained by higher biological activity in the upwelled waters. The factors controlling the seasonality of total inorganic carbon (CT) normalized to constant salinity of 36.7 (NCT) were assessed. The effect of net community production on NCT between February and October represented >90% of the reduction of inorganic carbon while air-sea CO2 exchange described <6%. The seasonality of air-sea CO2 fluxes was driven by SST fluctuations. The surface waters of the entire region acted as a strong CO2 sink during the cold months and as a weak CO2 source during the warm months. A net annual CO2 sink behaviour was observed in both the Canary basin (-0.26 ± 0.04 mol C m-2 yr-1) and the northwest African continental shelf (-0.48 ± 0.09 mol C m-2 yr-1). The calculated average CO2 flux for the entire area in the Northeast Atlantic was -2.65 ± 0.44 Tg CO2 yr-1 (-0.72 ± 0.12 Tg C yr-1). 33 1

The contribution discusses the relation between drawing and the site, where e.g. altitude-differences play a role. There are three variables in vertical perspective drawing: the sinking valley, the rising mountains and the vantage point. That is, not two but three variables. The vantage point varies with high and low situations under hiking conditions, the retrospective framing and contact metaphors, both determining what we can know. When the environment changes (e.g. the climate) the conditions for what we can know also change. The natural environment today therefore sets a set of different conditions than those prevailing at B.M. Keilhau & C.P.B. Boeck’s time: two young researchers who, along with the reindeer huntsman Ole Urden, embarked on a walk from Mount Mugna by Valdres to Falketind (in what was later to become Jotunheimen). The question is whether the technological development can compensate for environmental change, or much is simply lost, on account of changes in an environment that we are part of. Maybe attempts of the type made here, with views of a mountain trip in 1820 can be of some avail. The intention is to contribute to the development of environmental humanities: practically, theoretically and methodologically. The version is somewhat expanded from the one presented at the National Library during the 1-day seminar 24th March 2021: a) the slide-set includes an appendix; b) the manuscript includes a postface. Geologic storage of carbon dioxide (CO2), mainly in deep saline aquifers, has emerged as a key solution to reach the Paris Agreement goal of limiting the global temperature increase below 2ºC and effectively mitigate climate change. The injected CO2 is less dense at the storage condictions than the resident brine and tends to flow upward by buoyancy. Therefore, to achieve the primary objective of permanently storing CO2 underground during geological time scales, the host reservoir should be overlain by a low-permeability and high-entry pressure caprock that prevents CO2 escaping from the storage formation. Meanwhile, the caprock sealing capacity is of particular significance and yet to be assessed in more detail. In this presentation, we aim at shedding light on the flow processes governing potential CO2 leakage through shaly caprocks by combining experimental observations and numerical simulations. We present breakthrough experiments on Opalinus Clay, which is a representative caprock for CO2 storage. These experiments reproduce supercritical CO2 intrusion and flow through the caprock sample under representative reservoir conditions. Next, we address numerical simulation of the breakthrough experiments using a twophase flow model in deformable porous media to provide a mechanistic interpretation of experimental observations. Overall, we conclude that CO2 leakage through the caprock is dominated by molecular diffusion rather than by rapid bulk volumetric advection. Peer reviewed

Unfortunately, it is impossible to have devices that allow direct pollutants' direct measurements in a place of interest. Due to this limitation, in this work, a computer tool was developed to predict contaminants' behavior and their concentration levels in a reliable way. In this methodology, equations of the physics of motion were implemented to predict particles' behavior in a given area and an interpolation technique based on the Kriging method. In the initial stage, a preliminary analysis of the pollution data of the city of Bogota, Colombia, downloaded from the Air quality monitoring network of Bogota, Colombia, was performed. In the next stage, the variables of most significant interest in the analysis were defined, and the data to be characterized is explored. Finally, the selected method's calculation algorithm is implemented in Python, taking an ArcGIS library as a programming reference. From the results, it was possible to determine the contaminants' levels for some regions of Bogota, Colombia, between values of 0.067 to a maximum weight of 0.4039 ¼g/m3, for January 2013.
