gCube Home Library WebApp is a web service that uses a Java Content Repository, such as Apache Jackrabbit, to store and manage content. Home Library WebApp uses Java servlets to process HTTP requests in a RESTful way.

speciesLink SPD plugin is a plugin of the Species Products Discovery service that interacts with speciesLink data source, by using the international standard TAPIR protocol. The data exchange format for publishing checklist data is based on Darwin Core (DwC), a standard for biodiversity data.

The gCube social networking facilities manifest in a number of applications made available through a thin Web browser are conceptually close to the common facilities promoted by social networks - e.g., posting news, commenting on posted news - yet adapted to deal with large scale collaboration and cooperation on comprehensive scientific prod- ucts, data sets, theories and tools. The News Feed lists users' and applications' updates and make these available to every user according to his/her preferences. Additionally, it enables users to comment, subscribe or reshare these updates, and - in case of application posts - to make users access the subject of the post directly in the application that created it, e.g., to see a data set or an application. Moreover it allows to trigger topic search when clicking on a post containing hashtags (topics).

The Top Topics allows to see the hottest topics of discussion in the whole Infrastructure or per context (i.e. per VRE).

The gCube Workspace environment represents a collaborative area in which users can save, exchange, share, create public links and organize information objects (files) according to their specific needs. Because of this, every user of any Virtual Research Environment in the D4Science Infrastructure is provided with this area.

The User-Statistics portlet allows a user to check the current number of: posts written, post replies and likes done, post replies and likes received in the last year. Moreover, it shows the total amount of space used within the infrastructure. It also suggests the user to update his/her profile information in order to boost his/her visibility within the VREs he/she belongs to.

The gCube VRE Definition App shows a wizard that allows VRE managers to create VREs, defining their name, their temporal coverage (i.e. start date and end date after which the VRE expires), their managers, their description (optional) and the resources they will need to operate. All the resource information of the e-Infrastructure reside in the gCube Information System (IS), which plays the role of the infrastructure's registry and supports the publishing, discovery and monitoring of all the parts that form the infrastructure.

The social-data-search-client is the library that enables the full-text search over posts and comments. The search is actually performed on: post/comment's content, post/comment's author and post attachments' names, if any. It relies on the ElasticSearch engine. The returned list of retrieved posts is, of course, filtered taking into account the data the user is allowed to access.
