    During the war in 1991 and 1992, because of artillery bombardment, the citizens of Croatia have been forced to live underground in shelters and cellars and therefore they have been exposed to an additional radon radiation. Rn concentration in shelters (cellars) and dwellings of Osijek and Zagreb were measured by means of a silicon detector (Radhome) and also, at several locations, by an LR-115 nuclear track detector. Estimated monthly radon exposures in dwellings and cellars of Osijek or Zagreb were (2.88±1.58)×104 Bq h m−3 and (6.62±3.17)×104 Bq h m−3, respectively, or (1.94±0.72)×104 Bq h m−3 and (7.46±7.78)×104 Bq h m−3. Inhabitants of Osijek and Zagreb have received, on the average, the effective dose equivalent of 4.1 and 2.6 mSv y−1, respectively.

    Abstract. The Split wildfire in July 2017, which was one of the most severe wildfires in Croatian history of this World Heritage site, is the focus in this study. The Split fire is a good example of wildfire-urban interface, with unexpected fire behavior including rapid downslope spread to the coastal populated area. Thus, it is critical to clarify the meteorological conditions behind the fire event, those that have limited the effectiveness of firefighting operations and the rapid escalation and expansion of the fire zones within thirty hours. First, the Split fire propagation was reconstructed using radio logs, interviews with firefighters and pilots involved in the intervention, eye-witness statements, digital photographs from fire detection cameras, media and firefighting monthly journal. Four phases of fire development have been identified. Then, weather observations and numerical simulations using an enhanced-resolution operational model are utilized to analyze the dynamics in each phase of the fire runs. The synoptic background of the event includes large surface pressure gradient between the Azores anticyclone accompanied by cold front and a cyclone over southeastern Balkan Peninsula. At the upper level, there was a deep shortwave trough extending from the Baltic Sea to the Adriatic Sea, which developed into a cut-off low. Such synoptic conditions have resulted in the annual maximum of Fire Weather Index and the highest monthly severity rating for July in the period 1981–2020. Combined with topography, they also provoke locally the formation of the strong northeasterly bura wind along the Adriatic coast. During the fire event, wind gust of nearly 25 m s-1 occurred. Low level jet (LLJ) has also been formally identified during an extended period, with a peak prior to the fire event possessing wind speed of over 21 m s-1 at a height of 600–700 m. Analysis of the upper-level jet also reveals that there was a deep tropospheric bura, which has facilitated the subsidence of dry air from the upper troposphere. In the mid to lower level, gravity wave breaking and turbulence mixing (as in the hydraulic jump theory) in the downslope bura wind further enabled the rapid drying at the surface. Low level jet and strong downslope wind such as the bura are known to be related to many severe wildfire events worldwide, besides the antecedent hot and dry weather conditions and fuel loads. As has been demonstrated in this study, numerical guidance that indicates the spatial and temporal occurrence of low level jet is highly implicative to explain the Split fire evolution from the ignition potential to its extinguishment stage. Thus, in addition to the conventional fire weather indexes, such products are able to improve fire weather behavior forecast and in general more effective decision-making in fire management.

    The application of four types of process signals in the indirect on-line monitoring of stone hardness has been analysed in this paper. Cutting forces, servomotor currents, vibration and acoustic emission signals were measured during the drilling of three types of stones characterised by different hardness and heterogeneity values. A group of features were extracted from each signal from the time and frequency domain. Their capacity to correctly classify stone hardness was analysed using an artificial neural network classifier. Stone samples were drilled with new drill bits and drill bits worn to three different wear levels in order to analyse the influence of tool wear on the hardness classification process. Nine combinations of cutting parameters were applied for each drill wear level and stone type. Features extracted from the vibration signals obtained the best results in the stone hardness classification. The results indicate their potential industrial application, since they have achieved a high classification precision regardless of the drill bit wear level.

    Kosovo ore deposits are located in the Trepça belt which extends for over 80 km. The concentrate produced by the flotation process of the Trepça metallurgical corporation contains a considerable quantity of valuable metals, such as Pb, Zn, Fe and minor accompanying metals such as Cd, Cu, As, Sb, Bi, Ag, Au, etc. The subject of this work was to assess the concentration of major and minor metals in lead and zinc concentrates of Trepça and to study the correlation coefficients between metals. Chemical determination of concentrates was performed by using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). In the content on lead concentrate samples, the following were found: Pb>Fe>Zn> Ag> As>Sb>Cd. In the content of zinc concentrate, the following were found: Zn>Fe>Pb>Ag>As>Cd. The program “Statistica ver. 6.0” has been used for calculations of basic statistical parameters, relationships between data and cluster analysis of R-mode. R-mode cluster analysis on lead concentrate samples showed that Pb has the closest linkages with Fe and they form one branch of the dendogram. On the zinc concentrate samples, Zn has the closest linkages with Fe and they form one branch of the dendogram.

    We present the first results of an on-going research project on a decorative stone that might have been one of the main ornamental stones in Roman Spain’s inland, the limestone and conglomerate from Espejón. Within the framework of exploitation and uses of other Hispano-Roman stone resources, these results will add significant data to the whole picture of non-foreign marmora exploitation and use in Hispania. So far, the archaeological materials of several sites have been inspected, a survey to locate quarrying evidence has been undertaken and a multimethod analytical protocol has been initiated. Thus, we have established the basis for an archaeometric reference corpus, which will be henceforth enlarged and used as tool for comparison with archaeological items in order to determine the extent of this limestone and multi-coloured conglomerate’s distribution and use.

    Based on the characteristics of individual species, the generic characteristics of Palaeodasycladus have been determined and enlarged. P. mediterraneus (PIA, 1920) 1927 comprises a broad array of varieties that have been taxonomically distinguished on the basis of the variable shape of primary and secondary branches and the way in which the secondaries emerge. The following varieties are represented: P. mediterraneus (PIA, 1920) 1927 var. mediterraneus, P. mediterraneus var. heraki (SOKAC & NIKLER, 1966) n. comb., P. mediterraneus var. illyricus (SOKAC & NIKLER, 1966) n. comb., P. mediterraneus var. gracilis (CROS & LEMOINE, 1967 ex GRANIER & DELOFFRE, 1993) n. stat., P. mediterraneus var. elongatulus PRATURLON, 1966, and P. mediterraneus var. calciticus n. var., and are characterised by specific skeletal form and easily recognisable calcification pattern. Also, the generic assignment of P. barrabei LEBOUCHÉ & LEMOINE, 1963 ex GRANIER & DELOFFRE, 1993 has been confirmed, in spite of its recent transferral to Eodasycladus by BARATTOLO et al. (1994). The following new species have been described: Palaeodasycladus alanensis n. sp., characterised by broadened, bowl-shaped or bushy swollen primary branches; P. multiporus n. sp., characterised by numerous higher-order branches on each primary branch; P. benceki n. sp., with very large primary branches with extremely variable distal ends; and P. asteriscus n. sp., with loosely spaced whorls and variously directed secondary branches, often growing in opposite directions from the same primary branch. Lower Liassic species, previously ascribed to Fanesella, F. dolomitica and F. anae, have also been assigned to Palaeodasycladus with enlarged generic characteristics and are named, consequently, Palaeodasycladus dolomiticus (CROS & LEMOINE, 1966) n. comb. and P. anae (SOKAC, 1988) n. comb., respectively. Fanesella sokaci BARATTOLO & BIGOZZI, 1996 is considered to be a younger synonym of P. dolomiticus. Phylogenetic relationships between various taxa have also been considered and a phyletic lineage P. barrabei - P. alanensis - P. benceki has been shown to exist.As regards the relationship between Palaeodasycladus and Eodasycladus, the latter has been shown to have evolved directly from P. barrabei by enlarged and more pronounced bubble-shaped swelling of one of the secondary branches, which thus becomes a “sporangia-bearing” organ. Also, a new species tentatively assigned to the genus Selliporella, Selliporella? problematica n. sp., has been described. From its morphological characteristics it represents an intermediate form, and a phylogenetic link between Liassic Palaeodasycladus and Middle Jurassic Selliporella. Finally, a new species, Humiella japodica n. sp. has been described, thereby enlarging the stratigraphic range of the genus Humiella into the Lower Liassic.

    In the Daqing oilfield, Heilongjiang Province, China, in the eastern part of the Sabei II District is a fi ne potential-tapping demonstration area with a long development time and complex history of well conditions. As oil exploration has entered into the high-water cut stage, the fi ne description of reservoir structure had a great significance to improve the effect of oil exploration. An abandoned channel is an important basis for recognizing a single river border and point bar. The top sand-shale interbedded or muddy sediments have a shelter action for the reservoir fluid, so correctly recognizing the abandoned channel is an important scientific basis for further analysing reservoir architecture and exploring the remaining oil. Due to the lateral shelter action of sand-shale interbedded with muddy sediments, the semi-connected body, consisting of abandoned and normal channel sand body, leads to an injection and production imbalance, which is namely production without injection or injection without production. It makes the top of the channel sand body become the favourable gathering place for remaining oil and a further main exploring object. Polje Daqing, u provinciji Heilong, Kina, smješteno je u istočnome dijelu okruga Sabei II. To je prostor s velikim potencijalom, ali i dugom poviješću bušenja i razradbe ležišta ugljikovodika. Kada je proizvodnja nafte došla u razdoblje pridobivanja s velikim količinama vode, pojavila se potreba za ponovnom analizom strukture ležišta, a kako bi se povećao udjel nafte u fluidu. Težište je stavljeno na napuštene paleokanale, odnosno riječna korita i sprudove. U krovini se nalaze taložine šejla ili glinjaka koji su ujedno izolatori, dok su ležišta u napuštenim kanalima predstavljena izmjenama pješčenjaka i šejla. Takva izmjena može predstavljati i bočne granice migracije, ali i tek djelomice povezana ležišna tijela ispunjena pješčenjakom podrijetlom iz napuštenih ili glavnoga riječnoga paleokanala. To utječe i na utiskivanje te planiranje proizvodnje, a zbog održavanja proizvodnje bez dodatnoga utiskivanja ili utiskivanja bez odraza u proizvodnji. Zaključeno je kako je najplići kanalski pješčenjak najpovoljnije ležišno tijelo za pridobivanje preostalih količina nafte te uopće za daljnju razradbu.

    We have carried out a principal component analysis for 625 gamma-ray bursts in the BATSE 3B catalog for which non-zero values exist for the nine measured variables. This shows that only two out of the three basic quantities of duration, peak flux and fluence are independent, even if this relation is strongly affected by instrumental effects, and these two account for 91.6% of the total information content. The next most important variable is the fluence in the fourth energy channel (at energies above 320 keV). This has a larger variance and is less correlated with the fluences in the remaining three channels than the latter correlate among themselves. Thus a separate consideration of the fourth channel, and increased attention on the related hardness ratio $H43$ appears useful for future studies. The analysis gives the weights for the individual measurements needed to define a single duration, peak flux and fluence. It also shows that, in logarithmic variables, the hardness ratio $H32$ is significantly correlated with peak flux, while $H43$ is significantly anticorrelated with peak flux.     Adiabatic compressed air energy storage systems offer large energy storage capacities and power outputs beyond 100MWel. Salt production in Austria produces large caverns which are able to hold pressure up to 100 bar, thus providing low cost pressurized air storage reservoirs for adiabatic compressed air energy storage plants. In this paper the results of a feasibility study is presented, which was financed by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency, with the objective to determine the adiabatic compressed air energy storage potential of Austria’s salt caverns. The study contains designs of realisable plants with capacities between 10 and 50 MWel, applying a high temperature energy storage system currently developed at the Institute for Energy Systems and Thermodynamics in Vienna. It could be shown that the overall storage potential of Austria’s salt caverns exceeds a total of 4GWhel in the year 2030 and, assuming an adequate performance of the heat exchanger, that a 10MWel adiabatic compressed air energy storage plant in Upper Austria is currently feasible using state of the art thermal turbomachinery which is able to provide a compressor discharge temperature of 400 °C.

    In the area of the present Po¾e¹ka Mt. braided alluvial fans wereformed during the Early Miocene above the subsiding Cretaceous-Palaeogene basement. Due to autocyclic processes, i.e. lateral migrationof flows due to vertical aggradation of longitudinal bars, ormigration of the main trench, small-scale fining-upward cycles wereformed. The complete succession of the alluvial deposits is composedof two fining-upward megacycles, which are the consequence of allocyclicinfluences, i.e. the pulsating character of synsedimentary tectonics.Megacycles were developed parallel to backstepping of thefront of the fault scarp towards the mountain massif, caused by normalfaulting along the active margin of an extensional basin. Thiskind of depositional style indicates that the Sava fault operated as anormal fault at the beginning of its life during the Early Miocene,probably the Ottnangian.

    During the war in 1991 and 1992, because of artillery bombardment, the citizens of Croatia have been forced to live underground in shelters and cellars and therefore they have been exposed to an additional radon radiation. Rn concentration in shelters (cellars) and dwellings of Osijek and Zagreb were measured by means of a silicon detector (Radhome) and also, at several locations, by an LR-115 nuclear track detector. Estimated monthly radon exposures in dwellings and cellars of Osijek or Zagreb were (2.88±1.58)×104 Bq h m−3 and (6.62±3.17)×104 Bq h m−3, respectively, or (1.94±0.72)×104 Bq h m−3 and (7.46±7.78)×104 Bq h m−3. Inhabitants of Osijek and Zagreb have received, on the average, the effective dose equivalent of 4.1 and 2.6 mSv y−1, respectively.

    Abstract. The Split wildfire in July 2017, which was one of the most severe wildfires in Croatian history of this World Heritage site, is the focus in this study. The Split fire is a good example of wildfire-urban interface, with unexpected fire behavior including rapid downslope spread to the coastal populated area. Thus, it is critical to clarify the meteorological conditions behind the fire event, those that have limited the effectiveness of firefighting operations and the rapid escalation and expansion of the fire zones within thirty hours. First, the Split fire propagation was reconstructed using radio logs, interviews with firefighters and pilots involved in the intervention, eye-witness statements, digital photographs from fire detection cameras, media and firefighting monthly journal. Four phases of fire development have been identified. Then, weather observations and numerical simulations using an enhanced-resolution operational model are utilized to analyze the dynamics in each phase of the fire runs. The synoptic background of the event includes large surface pressure gradient between the Azores anticyclone accompanied by cold front and a cyclone over southeastern Balkan Peninsula. At the upper level, there was a deep shortwave trough extending from the Baltic Sea to the Adriatic Sea, which developed into a cut-off low. Such synoptic conditions have resulted in the annual maximum of Fire Weather Index and the highest monthly severity rating for July in the period 1981–2020. Combined with topography, they also provoke locally the formation of the strong northeasterly bura wind along the Adriatic coast. During the fire event, wind gust of nearly 25 m s-1 occurred. Low level jet (LLJ) has also been formally identified during an extended period, with a peak prior to the fire event possessing wind speed of over 21 m s-1 at a height of 600–700 m. Analysis of the upper-level jet also reveals that there was a deep tropospheric bura, which has facilitated the subsidence of dry air from the upper troposphere. In the mid to lower level, gravity wave breaking and turbulence mixing (as in the hydraulic jump theory) in the downslope bura wind further enabled the rapid drying at the surface. Low level jet and strong downslope wind such as the bura are known to be related to many severe wildfire events worldwide, besides the antecedent hot and dry weather conditions and fuel loads. As has been demonstrated in this study, numerical guidance that indicates the spatial and temporal occurrence of low level jet is highly implicative to explain the Split fire evolution from the ignition potential to its extinguishment stage. Thus, in addition to the conventional fire weather indexes, such products are able to improve fire weather behavior forecast and in general more effective decision-making in fire management.

    The application of four types of process signals in the indirect on-line monitoring of stone hardness has been analysed in this paper. Cutting forces, servomotor currents, vibration and acoustic emission signals were measured during the drilling of three types of stones characterised by different hardness and heterogeneity values. A group of features were extracted from each signal from the time and frequency domain. Their capacity to correctly classify stone hardness was analysed using an artificial neural network classifier. Stone samples were drilled with new drill bits and drill bits worn to three different wear levels in order to analyse the influence of tool wear on the hardness classification process. Nine combinations of cutting parameters were applied for each drill wear level and stone type. Features extracted from the vibration signals obtained the best results in the stone hardness classification. The results indicate their potential industrial application, since they have achieved a high classification precision regardless of the drill bit wear level.

    Kosovo ore deposits are located in the Trepça belt which extends for over 80 km. The concentrate produced by the flotation process of the Trepça metallurgical corporation contains a considerable quantity of valuable metals, such as Pb, Zn, Fe and minor accompanying metals such as Cd, Cu, As, Sb, Bi, Ag, Au, etc. The subject of this work was to assess the concentration of major and minor metals in lead and zinc concentrates of Trepça and to study the correlation coefficients between metals. Chemical determination of concentrates was performed by using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). In the content on lead concentrate samples, the following were found: Pb>Fe>Zn> Ag> As>Sb>Cd. In the content of zinc concentrate, the following were found: Zn>Fe>Pb>Ag>As>Cd. The program “Statistica ver. 6.0” has been used for calculations of basic statistical parameters, relationships between data and cluster analysis of R-mode. R-mode cluster analysis on lead concentrate samples showed that Pb has the closest linkages with Fe and they form one branch of the dendogram. On the zinc concentrate samples, Zn has the closest linkages with Fe and they form one branch of the dendogram.

    We present the first results of an on-going research project on a decorative stone that might have been one of the main ornamental stones in Roman Spain’s inland, the limestone and conglomerate from Espejón. Within the framework of exploitation and uses of other Hispano-Roman stone resources, these results will add significant data to the whole picture of non-foreign marmora exploitation and use in Hispania. So far, the archaeological materials of several sites have been inspected, a survey to locate quarrying evidence has been undertaken and a multimethod analytical protocol has been initiated. Thus, we have established the basis for an archaeometric reference corpus, which will be henceforth enlarged and used as tool for comparison with archaeological items in order to determine the extent of this limestone and multi-coloured conglomerate’s distribution and use.

    Based on the characteristics of individual species, the generic characteristics of Palaeodasycladus have been determined and enlarged. P. mediterraneus (PIA, 1920) 1927 comprises a broad array of varieties that have been taxonomically distinguished on the basis of the variable shape of primary and secondary branches and the way in which the secondaries emerge. The following varieties are represented: P. mediterraneus (PIA, 1920) 1927 var. mediterraneus, P. mediterraneus var. heraki (SOKAC & NIKLER, 1966) n. comb., P. mediterraneus var. illyricus (SOKAC & NIKLER, 1966) n. comb., P. mediterraneus var. gracilis (CROS & LEMOINE, 1967 ex GRANIER & DELOFFRE, 1993) n. stat., P. mediterraneus var. elongatulus PRATURLON, 1966, and P. mediterraneus var. calciticus n. var., and are characterised by specific skeletal form and easily recognisable calcification pattern. Also, the generic assignment of P. barrabei LEBOUCHÉ & LEMOINE, 1963 ex GRANIER & DELOFFRE, 1993 has been confirmed, in spite of its recent transferral to Eodasycladus by BARATTOLO et al. (1994). The following new species have been described: Palaeodasycladus alanensis n. sp., characterised by broadened, bowl-shaped or bushy swollen primary branches; P. multiporus n. sp., characterised by numerous higher-order branches on each primary branch; P. benceki n. sp., with very large primary branches with extremely variable distal ends; and P. asteriscus n. sp., with loosely spaced whorls and variously directed secondary branches, often growing in opposite directions from the same primary branch. Lower Liassic species, previously ascribed to Fanesella, F. dolomitica and F. anae, have also been assigned to Palaeodasycladus with enlarged generic characteristics and are named, consequently, Palaeodasycladus dolomiticus (CROS & LEMOINE, 1966) n. comb. and P. anae (SOKAC, 1988) n. comb., respectively. Fanesella sokaci BARATTOLO & BIGOZZI, 1996 is considered to be a younger synonym of P. dolomiticus. Phylogenetic relationships between various taxa have also been considered and a phyletic lineage P. barrabei - P. alanensis - P. benceki has been shown to exist.As regards the relationship between Palaeodasycladus and Eodasycladus, the latter has been shown to have evolved directly from P. barrabei by enlarged and more pronounced bubble-shaped swelling of one of the secondary branches, which thus becomes a “sporangia-bearing” organ. Also, a new species tentatively assigned to the genus Selliporella, Selliporella? problematica n. sp., has been described. From its morphological characteristics it represents an intermediate form, and a phylogenetic link between Liassic Palaeodasycladus and Middle Jurassic Selliporella. Finally, a new species, Humiella japodica n. sp. has been described, thereby enlarging the stratigraphic range of the genus Humiella into the Lower Liassic.

    In the Daqing oilfield, Heilongjiang Province, China, in the eastern part of the Sabei II District is a fi ne potential-tapping demonstration area with a long development time and complex history of well conditions. As oil exploration has entered into the high-water cut stage, the fi ne description of reservoir structure had a great significance to improve the effect of oil exploration. An abandoned channel is an important basis for recognizing a single river border and point bar. The top sand-shale interbedded or muddy sediments have a shelter action for the reservoir fluid, so correctly recognizing the abandoned channel is an important scientific basis for further analysing reservoir architecture and exploring the remaining oil. Due to the lateral shelter action of sand-shale interbedded with muddy sediments, the semi-connected body, consisting of abandoned and normal channel sand body, leads to an injection and production imbalance, which is namely production without injection or injection without production. It makes the top of the channel sand body become the favourable gathering place for remaining oil and a further main exploring object. Polje Daqing, u provinciji Heilong, Kina, smješteno je u istočnome dijelu okruga Sabei II. To je prostor s velikim potencijalom, ali i dugom poviješću bušenja i razradbe ležišta ugljikovodika. Kada je proizvodnja nafte došla u razdoblje pridobivanja s velikim količinama vode, pojavila se potreba za ponovnom analizom strukture ležišta, a kako bi se povećao udjel nafte u fluidu. Težište je stavljeno na napuštene paleokanale, odnosno riječna korita i sprudove. U krovini se nalaze taložine šejla ili glinjaka koji su ujedno izolatori, dok su ležišta u napuštenim kanalima predstavljena izmjenama pješčenjaka i šejla. Takva izmjena može predstavljati i bočne granice migracije, ali i tek djelomice povezana ležišna tijela ispunjena pješčenjakom podrijetlom iz napuštenih ili glavnoga riječnoga paleokanala. To utječe i na utiskivanje te planiranje proizvodnje, a zbog održavanja proizvodnje bez dodatnoga utiskivanja ili utiskivanja bez odraza u proizvodnji. Zaključeno je kako je najplići kanalski pješčenjak najpovoljnije ležišno tijelo za pridobivanje preostalih količina nafte te uopće za daljnju razradbu.

    We have carried out a principal component analysis for 625 gamma-ray bursts in the BATSE 3B catalog for which non-zero values exist for the nine measured variables. This shows that only two out of the three basic quantities of duration, peak flux and fluence are independent, even if this relation is strongly affected by instrumental effects, and these two account for 91.6% of the total information content. The next most important variable is the fluence in the fourth energy channel (at energies above 320 keV). This has a larger variance and is less correlated with the fluences in the remaining three channels than the latter correlate among themselves. Thus a separate consideration of the fourth channel, and increased attention on the related hardness ratio $H43$ appears useful for future studies. The analysis gives the weights for the individual measurements needed to define a single duration, peak flux and fluence. It also shows that, in logarithmic variables, the hardness ratio $H32$ is significantly correlated with peak flux, while $H43$ is significantly anticorrelated with peak flux.     Adiabatic compressed air energy storage systems offer large energy storage capacities and power outputs beyond 100MWel. Salt production in Austria produces large caverns which are able to hold pressure up to 100 bar, thus providing low cost pressurized air storage reservoirs for adiabatic compressed air energy storage plants. In this paper the results of a feasibility study is presented, which was financed by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency, with the objective to determine the adiabatic compressed air energy storage potential of Austria’s salt caverns. The study contains designs of realisable plants with capacities between 10 and 50 MWel, applying a high temperature energy storage system currently developed at the Institute for Energy Systems and Thermodynamics in Vienna. It could be shown that the overall storage potential of Austria’s salt caverns exceeds a total of 4GWhel in the year 2030 and, assuming an adequate performance of the heat exchanger, that a 10MWel adiabatic compressed air energy storage plant in Upper Austria is currently feasible using state of the art thermal turbomachinery which is able to provide a compressor discharge temperature of 400 °C.

    In the area of the present Po¾e¹ka Mt. braided alluvial fans wereformed during the Early Miocene above the subsiding Cretaceous-Palaeogene basement. Due to autocyclic processes, i.e. lateral migrationof flows due to vertical aggradation of longitudinal bars, ormigration of the main trench, small-scale fining-upward cycles wereformed. The complete succession of the alluvial deposits is composedof two fining-upward megacycles, which are the consequence of allocyclicinfluences, i.e. the pulsating character of synsedimentary tectonics.Megacycles were developed parallel to backstepping of thefront of the fault scarp towards the mountain massif, caused by normalfaulting along the active margin of an extensional basin. Thiskind of depositional style indicates that the Sava fault operated as anormal fault at the beginning of its life during the Early Miocene,probably the Ottnangian.
