Gutiérrez; Kashif Rabbani; Oluwashina Joseph Ajayi; Samson Kahsay Gebresilassie; Joseph Rafferty; Luis A. Castro; Oresti Banos; The increase of mental illness cases around the world can be described as an urgent and serious global health threat. Around 500 million people suffer from mental disorders, among which depression, schizophrenia, and dementia are the most prevalent. Revolutionary technological paradigms such as the Internet of Things (IoT) provide us with new capabilities to detect, assess, and care for patients early. This paper comprehensively survey works done at the intersection between IoT and mental health disorders. We evaluate multiple computational platforms, methods and devices, as well as study results and potential open issues for the effective use of IoT systems in mental health. We particularly elaborate on relevant open challenges in the use of existing IoT solutions for mental health care, which can be relevant given the potential impairments in some mental health patients such as data acquisition issues, lack of self-organization of devices and service level agreement, and security, privacy and consent issues, among others. We aim at opening the conversation for future research in this rather emerging area by outlining possible new paths based on the results and conclusions of this work. The LR resistance gene LrBi16 has been mapped on chromosome arm 7BL in Chinese wheat cultivar Bimai 16 and was closely linked to SSR loci Xcfa2257 and Xgwm344 with genetic distances of 2.8 cM and 2.9 cM, respectively. In the present study, a total of 304 AFLP primer pairs were used to screen Bimai 16 and Thatcher and resistant and susceptible DNA bulks. The polymorphic AFLP marker P-ATT/M-CGC 173 bp was used to genotype F 2 and F 3 populations to identify markers more closely linked to LrBi16 . Marker P-ATT/M-CGC 173 bp was tightly linked to LrBi16 with a genetic distance of 0.5 cM. As LrBi16 was mapped near the Lr14a locus, 809 F 2 plants from the Bimai 16/RL6013 ( Lr14a ) cross were inoculated with the Pt pathotype FHNQ to test the allelism of Lr14a and LrBi16 . All of the F 2 plants were resistant to FHNQ (IT between; and 2), suggesting that Lr14a and LrBi16 are allelic.

Interventions such as forest bathing (slow, mindful nature walks) have been shown to increase our connection to nature and be an effective intervention for improving health and well-being. However, there is variation in the activities delivered during forest bathing and the guidance given. Few researchers have evaluated which activities, elements of nature, and senses are responsible for improvements in well-being. The current evaluation addresses this gap and also monitors the emotional state and nature connection following guided forest bathing walks. Participants (N = 1142) across 35 countries completed post-walk evaluation surveys online. Results suggest that well-being and nature connection were rated very highly following forest bathing activities. Experiencing happy feelings and trusting emotions were especially highly rated. The natural elements perceived as contributing the most to well-being were sound-related elements. In terms of sociodemographics, women had higher well-being and nature connection ratings than men; ratings were higher in specialised nature resort areas, with little difference between natural and urban park areas; higher scores were seen in the southern hemisphere and during hot or long-day seasons. This has implications for forest bathing, forest therapy, and nature-based training organisations and their guides who want to improve their method of intervention delivery, maximise well-being, and enhance nature connection.

Schmalh, 33 primary synthetic hexaploid wheat genotypes (SYN) were crossed to 20 spring bread wheat (BW) cultivars at the International Wheat and Maize Improvement Center. Modified single seed descent was used to develop 97 populations with 50 individuals per population using first back-cross, biparental, and three-way crosses. Individuals from each cross were selected for short stature, early heading, flowering and maturity, minimal lodging, and free threshing. Yield trials were conducted under irrigated, drought, and heat-stress conditions from 2011 to 2014 in Ciudad Obregon, Mexico. Genomic estimated breeding values (GEBVs) of parents and synthetic derived lines (SDLs) were estimated using a genomic best linear unbiased prediction (GBLUP) model with markers in each trial. In each environment, there were SDLs that had higher GEBVs than their recurrent BW parent for yield. The GEBVs of BW parents for yield ranged from -0.32 in heat to 1.40 in irrigated trials. The range of the SYN parent GEBVs for yield was from -2.69 in the irrigated to 0.26 in the heat trials and were mostly negative across environments. The contribution of the SYN parents to improved grain yield of the SDLs was highest under heat stress, with an average GEBV for the top 10% of the SDLs of 0.55 while the weighted average GEBV of their corresponding recurrent BW parents was 0.26. Using the pedigree-based model, the accuracy of genomic prediction for yield was 0.42, 0.43, and 0.49 in the drought, heat and irrigated trials, respectively, while for the marker-based model these values were 0.43, 0.44, and 0.55. The SYN parents introduced novel diversity into the wheat gene pool. Higher GEBVs of progenies were due to introgression and retention of some positive alleles from SYN parents.

Soto-Correa; Cuauhtémoc Sáenz-Romero; Horacio Paz; Roberto Lindig-Cisneros;Drought stress in provenances of Lupinus elegans from different altitudesThe response of plants to altitudinal gradients depends on several factors and might differ among life strategies. Understanding these responses is highly relevant for management of forest species, particularly under climate change scenarios. We explored the response to drought of different provenances of Lupinus elegans, obtained from an altitudinal gradient. This species is a shrub that acts as a nurse plant in temperate forests in its geographical range. Seeds were collected from five natural provenances across an altitudinal gradient (2312 m to 2885 m a.s.l.). A common-garden experiment was conducted with four drought treatments (irrigation at every 3, 7, 15 and 21 days) in a shade-house located at 1972 m a.s.l. All provenances presented reduced heights and numbers of leaves with increased drought intensity, regardless of site of origin. Survival among provenances presented an altitudinal pattern, where those belonging to higher sites exhibited greater survival. Provenances from lower altitudes, coming from drier and warmer sites, exhibited poorer survival against drought stress. Overall, our results indicate that there are differences among provenances, but since this species is a short lived perennial (five years on average), it is more sensitive to microclimate than to conditions determined for large scale patterns such as altitudinal gradients. This should be considered for management practices such as ecological restoration.

There is little information on the agroecological characteristics and chemical composition of some wild forage species in Mexico, which can be proposed as alternatives for forage uses; therefore, the aim of this work was to assess the nutritional properties of Enterolobium cyclocarpum (common name: parota) mature seeds collected from several native habitat locations with distinct physiographic and ecological conditions in Jalisco in western Mexico. Physiographic data, coexisting vegetation, environmental conditions, soil type, mineral and organic content of soils from each site were determined. Seed nutritional values (amino acid profile, mineral content and in vivo protein degradability) were evaluated by proximate composition. Seed samples from Autlán exhibited the highest crude protein values, ethyl ether extract, histidine, phosphorus, dry matter digestibility and protein efficiency ratio. This site coincides with the highest contents in soil organic carbon, soil organic matter and phosphorus, and appropriate climatic conditions; while seeds with the lowest value of crude protein, dry matter digestibility, and protein efficiency ratio were collected from Puerto Vallarla, La Huerta and Amatitán, which are the locations with inferior soil fertility characteristics.
