    The article deals with one of the eternal issues of the theory and practice of literary translation: “What happens to a literary original after it has been translated?” The answer to this question could be probably found through interdisciplinary approach which takes into consideration not only exclusively translation categories and literary translation traditions but also broad literary, cultural and political contexts of the target text. The subject of the present research is the experience and results of foreign fiction translations into Russian (mostly in the 20th century). The research material is predominantly analyzed by the means of comparative and descriptive methods using the concepts of re-writing, manipulation (mostly its conscious type) and censorship. The particular attention is paid to ideological and religious impact on literary translators’ creative activity. Being strongly affected by the ideology, literary translators made numerous alterations to the secondary (translated) texts in comparison with their original versions. Detailed comparative study of source and target texts reveals the most common strategies (omission and substitution) of ideological manipulation in literary translation, used by translators of Soviet Russia to comply with the requirements set by Текст статьи не публикуется в открытом доступе в соответствии с политикой журнала.

    В настоящей статье на материалах СМИ, интервью и интернет-источников рассматривается возрождение в Исландии с 70-х гг. XX в. средневекового ритуала воздвижения шеста нида. Если в средние века шест нида использовался в качестве ритуализованного оскорбления в женоподобии, обладающего магическим воздействием на адресата, то во второй половине XX в. он становится устойчивым элементом массовых протестов против политики исландского правительства и загрязнения окружающей среды. Образцом для создания шеста нида становится «Сага об Эгиле», что приводит к его унификации по сравнению с описаниями в средневековых источниках. Из магического ритуала воздвижение шеста нида превращается в способ протеста против нарушения интересов исландцев, а также в своего рода перформанс, способ выражения исландской идентичности. Несмотря на произошедшие изменения, суть нида – обвинение в нарушении социальных норм и моральных обязательств – остается прежней.

    The article considers the significance of the historical education and upbringing in the establishment of the historical consciousness of Russian young people. The authors show the most effective trends of its formation in the Russian Federation.     The article analyzes the role of ‘the thick journal’ in the national literary process and, in a wider sense, the spiritual life of the Russian society. For nearly two centuries, the literary periodical press was the focusing mirror of the national literary process, but under the influence of sociocultural circumstances (washing out of the intellectuals as a socially significant structure, falling of authority of the word, development of the Internet, etc.) there was an essential decrease in the reader’s attention to the journal format. At the same time in modern conditions ‘the thick journal’ in Russia as it is reasoned in the paper, seeks to uphold the ideals of culture in accordance with the traditions of national literature В статье рассматривается роль «толстого журнала» в отечественном литературном процессе и – шире – духовной жизни российского общества. Почти два столетия литературная периодика была фокусирующим зеркалом отечественного искусства слова, но под воздействием социокультурных обстоятельств (размывание интеллигенции как общественно значимой структуры, падение авторитета слова как такового, развитие Интернета и пр.) произошло существенное снижение читательского внимания к журнальному формату. Вместе с тем и в современных условиях «толстый журнал» в России, как аргументируется в статье, призван выполнять культуросберегающую миссию, к чему побуждают традиции отечественной литературы

    Dynamics of a plasma glow during the prebreakdown stage of a nanosecond discharge in the «cone-to-plane» gap with length of d = 3 mm was investigated with a HSFC PRO 12-bit four-channel ICCD camera. The gap was filled with nitrogen, air, argon. Gas pressure was ranged from 12,5 to 400 kPa. Voltage pulses of negative (U = 25 kV, τ0,5 = 3 ns, τ0,1–0,9 = 0,7 ns) and positive (U = 25 kV, τ0,5 = 10 ns, τ0,1–0,9 = 3 ns) polarities were applied across the gap. Images of the plasma glow at different stages of streamer formation are presented. It was established that a diffuse discharge is formed due to formation of a large streamer. It was found that plasma appears at a certain distance from the conical electrode at both polarities. These and other features of streamer formation are discussed.

    All the peoples of a vast northern part of Eurasia and the Arctic, in particular, have known the idea of sacredness of the feminine origin of mother-goddesses, giving birth to all life on earth, since the Paleolithic and Neolithic ages. It is probably that time that Siberian shamanism originates from. It is based on the animistic ideas on the cycle of souls of fur-bearing animals, birds and revered people who were buried the same way inside damp caves. This can be clearly seen in the bear feast, the genesis of which is observed in Eurasian ancient monuments. In their ethnographic past the peoples of Siberia had the custom of the totem birds’, beasts’ and shamans’ bones burial on the tree branches or in the tree hollows. More developed animism forms led to the construction of sarcophagi and air burials on poles. The fetishes, associated with totemism and the cult of ancestors, have been widely used in Siberian shamanism until recently. Sometimes they are found in their relic and transformed form in the ceremonies of modern holidays as well as in urban “shamans’” and psychics’ practice. However, the fact that remains unchanged is that tambourines and stringed instruments have always been one of the most important attributes, the instruments prototypically running back to hunting bows and bags for storage of their ancestors’ spirits. In a more rigorous understanding of this phenomenon the fetishes in archaic societies served as ancestral shrines and turned into musical instruments much later У всех народов широкой северной полосы Евразии и, в частности, Арктики идея сакральности женского начала богинь-матерей, порождающих всё живое на Земле, была известна с эпохи палеолита и неолита. Вероятно, именно с той поры берёт начало и сибирское шаманство, в основе которого лежали анимистические представления о круговороте душ промысловых зверей, птиц и почитаемых людей, схожим образом хоронимых внутри сырых пещер, что отчётливо видно в медвежьем празднике, генезис которого наблюдается в древнейших памятниках Евразии. В этнографическом прошлом у народов Сибири существовал обычай погребения костей тотемных птиц, зверей и шаманов на ветвях или в дуплах растущих деревьев. Более развитые формы анимизма привели к сооружению саркофагов и воздушных погребений на столбах. В сибирском шаманстве фетиши, связанные с тотемизмом и культом предков, широко применялись до недавних пор. Иногда они в пережиточной, трансформированной форме встречаются в церемониях современных праздников, а также в практике разных городских «шаманов» и экстрасенсов. Но неизменным остаётся то, что одним из самых важных атрибутов всегда выступают бубны и смычковые или струнные инструменты, восходящие к прототипам как охотничьи луки и мешки для хранения духов предков. В более строгом понимании данного феномена эти фетиши в архаических обществах служили родовыми святынями и лишь гораздо позднее превратились в музыкальные инструменты

    The paper focuses on the problem of the lexicographic presentation of Russian dialectal phraseology as the phenomenon having its own linguocultural value, with specification of ethnolinguistic and linguocognitive information conveyed by this layer of traditional folk culture. This linguistic material has not attained its systematic presentation in specialized lexicographic editions so far. Dialectal phraseology is mainly used by lexicographers as illustrative material in dialect dictionaries. The aim of the current study is to develop a complex lexicographic model for interpretation of meanings and cultural senses of dialectal phrasemes, which convey a specific type of traditional folk mentality. The material under analysis is phraseological units functioning in modern Russian dialects. The phrasemes are taken from dialect dictionaries and from the card-files of Ural State Pedagogical University including the units traced by the authors of the paper in the speech of dialect speakers (the sample size is over 2300 units). The research methods include the traditional methods of classification and structural- semantic analysis, the procedures of linguocognitive "portraying" the phraseme on the basis of motivational presuppositions; interpretation of phraseological units as "cultural signs" was fulfilled by means of analyzing non-verbal codes of ethnolinguistic information (customs, rites, myths, symbols). The research procedure. At the first stage of the research different types of the phrasemes were identified taking into account their structure and/or semantics as compared with literature phraseological units. Such types comprise semantic, lexical, grammatical and motivational phrasemes. The character of motivational presupposition underlying the transformation of the initial imagery in the phraseme was foregrounded to characterize the operational nature of this process. At the second stage parameters for interpretation of cultural senses of Russian dialectal phrasemes were determined. At the third (final) stage the identified parameters describing the ethnolinguistic and linguocognitive context of dialectal phrasemes functioning were taken into account to develop the complex model of lexicographic presentation. Conclusions. The lexicographic model of linguocultural interpretation of dialectal phrasemes is supposed to comprise the following parameters: 1) characterizing the denotative meaning of the phraseme with special commenting on the polifunctional objects of nomination, i.e. subjects, attributes and actions which can be culturally marked or non-marked depending on the situation; 2) character of prototype comparisons and axiological stereotypes underlying the imagery semantics of the phraseme; 3) characterizing the language system relationships and connections of the phraseme; 4) folk metalinguistic reflection based on the evidence of dialect users' linguistic consciousness, which is fixed in contexts of phrasemes usage; 5) age, territorial, gender, social attribution of the cultural information expressed by the phraseme; 6) "fitting" of the phraseme meaning in the wide cultural context through the custom, rite, folklore, etc. The presented model of linguocultural interpretation of dialectal phrasemes is not entirely universal. Nevertheless, the suggested parameters of complex lexicographic description of the given language material are operational enough to be used in modern anthropologically oriented practice of lexicography.

    The article deals with one of the eternal issues of the theory and practice of literary translation: “What happens to a literary original after it has been translated?” The answer to this question could be probably found through interdisciplinary approach which takes into consideration not only exclusively translation categories and literary translation traditions but also broad literary, cultural and political contexts of the target text. The subject of the present research is the experience and results of foreign fiction translations into Russian (mostly in the 20th century). The research material is predominantly analyzed by the means of comparative and descriptive methods using the concepts of re-writing, manipulation (mostly its conscious type) and censorship. The particular attention is paid to ideological and religious impact on literary translators’ creative activity. Being strongly affected by the ideology, literary translators made numerous alterations to the secondary (translated) texts in comparison with their original versions. Detailed comparative study of source and target texts reveals the most common strategies (omission and substitution) of ideological manipulation in literary translation, used by translators of Soviet Russia to comply with the requirements set by Текст статьи не публикуется в открытом доступе в соответствии с политикой журнала.

    В настоящей статье на материалах СМИ, интервью и интернет-источников рассматривается возрождение в Исландии с 70-х гг. XX в. средневекового ритуала воздвижения шеста нида. Если в средние века шест нида использовался в качестве ритуализованного оскорбления в женоподобии, обладающего магическим воздействием на адресата, то во второй половине XX в. он становится устойчивым элементом массовых протестов против политики исландского правительства и загрязнения окружающей среды. Образцом для создания шеста нида становится «Сага об Эгиле», что приводит к его унификации по сравнению с описаниями в средневековых источниках. Из магического ритуала воздвижение шеста нида превращается в способ протеста против нарушения интересов исландцев, а также в своего рода перформанс, способ выражения исландской идентичности. Несмотря на произошедшие изменения, суть нида – обвинение в нарушении социальных норм и моральных обязательств – остается прежней.

    The article considers the significance of the historical education and upbringing in the establishment of the historical consciousness of Russian young people.     The article analyzes the role of ‘the thick journal’ in the national literary process and, in a wider sense, the spiritual life of the Russian society. For nearly two centuries, the literary periodical press was the focusing mirror of the national literary process, but under the influence of sociocultural circumstances (washing out of the intellectuals as a socially significant structure, falling of authority of the word, development of the Internet, etc.) there was an essential decrease in the reader’s attention to the journal format. At the same time in modern conditions ‘the thick journal’ in Russia as it is reasoned in the paper, seeks to uphold the ideals of culture in accordance with the traditions of national literature В статье рассматривается роль «толстого журнала» в отечественном литературном процессе и – шире – духовной жизни российского общества. Почти два столетия литературная периодика была фокусирующим зеркалом отечественного искусства слова, но под воздействием социокультурных обстоятельств (размывание интеллигенции как общественно значимой структуры, падение авторитета слова как такового, развитие Интернета и пр.) произошло существенное снижение читательского внимания к журнальному формату.     Dynamics of a plasma glow during the prebreakdown stage of a nanosecond discharge in the «cone-to-plane» gap with length of d = 3 mm was investigated with a HSFC PRO 12-bit four-channel ICCD camera. The gap was filled with nitrogen, air, argon. Gas pressure was ranged from 12,5 to 400 kPa. Voltage pulses of negative (U = 25 kV, τ0,5 = 3 ns, τ0,1–0,9 = 0,7 ns) and positive (U = 25 kV, τ0,5 = 10 ns, τ0,1–0,9 = 3 ns) polarities were applied across the gap. Images of the plasma glow at different stages of streamer formation are presented. It was established that a diffuse discharge is formed due to formation of a large streamer. It was found that plasma appears at a certain distance from the conical electrode at both polarities. These and other features of streamer formation are discussed.

    All the peoples of a vast northern part of Eurasia and the Arctic, in particular, have known the idea of sacredness of the feminine origin of mother-goddesses, giving birth to all life on earth, since the Paleolithic and Neolithic ages. It is probably that time that Siberian shamanism originates from. It is based on the animistic ideas on the cycle of souls of fur-bearing animals, birds and revered people who were buried the same way inside damp caves. This can be clearly seen in the bear feast, the genesis of which is observed in Eurasian ancient monuments. In their ethnographic past the peoples of Siberia had the custom of the totem birds’, beasts’ and shamans’ bones burial on the tree branches or in the tree hollows. More developed animism forms led to the construction of sarcophagi and air burials on poles. The fetishes, associated with totemism and the cult of ancestors, have been widely used in Siberian shamanism until recently. Sometimes they are found in their relic and transformed form in the ceremonies of modern holidays as well as in urban “shamans’” and psychics’ practice. However, the fact that remains unchanged is that tambourines and stringed instruments have always been one of the most important attributes, the instruments prototypically running back to hunting bows and bags for storage of their ancestors’ spirits. In a more rigorous understanding of this phenomenon the fetishes in archaic societies served as ancestral shrines and turned into musical instruments much later У всех народов широкой северной полосы Евразии и, в частности, Арктики идея сакральности женского начала богинь-матерей, порождающих всё живое на Земле, была известна с эпохи палеолита и неолита. Вероятно, именно с той поры берёт начало и сибирское шаманство, в основе которого лежали анимистические представления о круговороте душ промысловых зверей, птиц и почитаемых людей, схожим образом хоронимых внутри сырых пещер, что отчётливо видно в медвежьем празднике, генезис которого наблюдается в древнейших памятниках Евразии. В этнографическом прошлом у народов Сибири существовал обычай погребения костей тотемных птиц, зверей и шаманов на ветвях или в дуплах растущих деревьев. Более развитые формы анимизма привели к сооружению саркофагов и воздушных погребений на столбах. В сибирском шаманстве фетиши, связанные с тотемизмом и культом предков, широко применялись до недавних пор. Иногда они в пережиточной, трансформированной форме встречаются в церемониях современных праздников, а также в практике разных городских «шаманов» и экстрасенсов. Но неизменным остаётся то, что одним из самых важных атрибутов всегда выступают бубны и смычковые или струнные инструменты, восходящие к прототипам как охотничьи луки и мешки для хранения духов предков.     The paper focuses on the problem of the lexicographic presentation of Russian dialectal phraseology as the phenomenon having its own linguocultural value, with specification of ethnolinguistic and linguocognitive information conveyed by this layer of traditional folk culture. This linguistic material has not attained its systematic presentation in specialized lexicographic editions so far. Dialectal phraseology is mainly used by lexicographers as illustrative material in dialect dictionaries. The aim of the current study is to develop a complex lexicographic model for interpretation of meanings and cultural senses of dialectal phrasemes, which convey a specific type of traditional folk mentality. The material under analysis is phraseological units functioning in modern Russian dialects. The phrasemes are taken from dialect dictionaries and from the card-files of Ural State Pedagogical University including the units traced by the authors of the paper in the speech of dialect speakers (the sample size is over 2300 units). The research methods include the traditional methods of classification and structural- semantic analysis, the procedures of linguocognitive "portraying" the phraseme on the basis of motivational presuppositions; interpretation of phraseological units as "cultural signs" was fulfilled by means of analyzing non-verbal codes of ethnolinguistic information (customs, rites, myths, symbols). The research procedure. At the first stage of the research different types of the phrasemes were identified taking into account their structure and/or semantics as compared with literature phraseological units. Such types comprise semantic, lexical, grammatical and motivational phrasemes. The character of motivational presupposition underlying the transformation of the initial imagery in the phraseme was foregrounded to characterize the operational nature of this process. At the second stage parameters for interpretation of cultural senses of Russian dialectal phrasemes were determined. At the third (final) stage the identified parameters describing the ethnolinguistic and linguocognitive context of dialectal phrasemes functioning were taken into account to develop the complex model of lexicographic presentation. Conclusions. The lexicographic model of linguocultural interpretation of dialectal phrasemes is supposed to comprise the following parameters: 1) characterizing the denotative meaning of the phraseme with special commenting on the polifunctional objects of nomination, i.e. subjects, attributes and actions which can be culturally marked or non-marked depending on the situation; 2) character of prototype comparisons and axiological stereotypes underlying the imagery semantics of the phraseme; 3) characterizing the language system relationships and connections of the phraseme; 4) folk metalinguistic reflection based on the evidence of dialect users' linguistic consciousness, which is fixed in contexts of phrasemes usage; 5) age, territorial, gender, social attribution of the cultural information expressed by the phraseme; 6) "fitting" of the phraseme meaning in the wide cultural context through the custom, rite, folklore, etc. The presented model of linguocultural interpretation of dialectal phrasemes is not entirely universal. Nevertheless, the suggested parameters of complex lexicographic description of the given language material are operational enough to be used in modern anthropologically oriented practice of lexicography.
