    Due to the current events related to Covid-19, the conference originally planned for July 2020 has been postponed to April 7-9, 2021.The conference will be organized virtually by videoconference. ORAL; International audience; In this paper, a study of UWB receivers in terms of detection theory is presented. The UWB radar which is presented in many works previously [1]-[3] has many applications. For road UWB radar application, the receiver based on correlation is the optimum receiver [4]. In fact, it maximizes the probability of detection. We will consider, in this study, a correlator receiver based on a threshold detection method. As in narrowband [5] [6], we will describe the theoretical study that evaluates the performance of the UWB receiver based on correlation in terms of detection and false alarm probabilities. Then a study of curves showing threshold receiver operating characteristics (ROC system), based on correlation and destined to be used for a UWB radar is presented. The study is original because it is presented for the first time in a UWB radar system.

    Print ISBN: 978-3-319-91478-7Electronic ISBN: 978-3-319-91479-4; International audience; Maintaining the level of integrity of pipeline networks to guarantee at least a reliable and safe service is a challenge operators of such networks are facing everyday. TIGF is one of the French operator which manages 5000 km of pipelines in the south-west quarter of France. This paper presents a decision-making tool which automatically ranks the pipeline sections regarding the risk of deterioration (damages and corrosion) and the gravity of the consequences, indicating which pipeline sections should be excavated. The tool relies on a fuzzy expert system which gathers 26 input variables, processes more than 300 rules, classifies the risk of deterioration into 7 classes and estimates the gravity. The rules are a formalization of human expertise: the fuzzy logic helps to tackle the vagueness of their knowledge and the measurement inaccuracy of some of the 26 input variables. The method has been tested on past excavations to assess its performances.

    Existing literature does not draw conclusions as to which speedometer type is better for truck driving. A digital speedometer would be more beneficial when obtaining absolute and relative readings, while an analogue speedometer would be more efficient and less distracting when detecting dynamic speed changes. Redundant speedometers, which simultaneously present digital and analogue speedometers, appear increasingly in vehicles, but no information is available on their ergonomic qualities. This study compared three speedometers: digital speedometers, analogue speedometers, and redundant speedometers. This study compared the efficiency, usability and visual distraction measures for all three types of speedometers in a simulated truck driving setting. The task-dependant results were confirmed for the digital and analogue speedometer. The redundant speedometer combined the benefits of each type presented separately, which highlights interesting theoretical and applied implications.

    Le Mercosur constitue, depuis son lancement à la fin des années 1980, un puissant facteur de recomposition territoriale dont les transports sont les éléments moteurs. Placé au coeur du dispositif d'intégration, l'Uruguay, au marché intérieur particulièrement étroit, ambitionne d'en devenir le carrefour, mais demeure pour l'instant, au même titre que le Paraguay, un des espaces contournés du Cône sud. La petite République Orientale, dont l'existence trouve son origine dans la rivalité entre entre ses deux puissants voisins, incapables de s'entendre sur le partage de l'estuaire de le Plata, hérite du caractère insulaire que sa vocation d'Etat tampon lui confère. Dans le contexte actuel de l'internationalisation des échanges et de l'intégration économique sud-américaine, l'Uruguay bénéficie cependant d'une position remarquable. Cette rente de situation s'articule autour d'une série de contacts, traditionnellement assumés par des espaces littoraux où des sites portuaires et balnéaires de qualité bénéficient de la proximité du marché argentin. A la croisée de multiples usages, la rive uruguayenne subit aujourd'hui toutes sortes de pressions, réactivées par le désengagement de l'Etat et la mise en oeuvre de processus d'ouverture économique. Ce réveil du rivage comporte toutefois une part de risque : celui d'apports capitalistiques massifs mais ponctuels, essentiellement basés sur les seules logiques du retour sur investissement. Si l'insertion régionale de l'Uruguay passe par la mise en valeur de son interface littorale, et notamment par la réactivation de ses ports commerciaux longtemps restés en sommeil, celle-ci ne peut s'établir en l'absence d'une stratégie territoriale d'aménagement dont les principes reposent en partie sur des choix de société. Since its creation, in the late 1980's, Mercosur has been a driving force in the territorial reorganisation of which transport is one of the key elements. Placed at the heart of this integration, Uruguay, with it's restricted internal market, has ambitions to become the crossroad of the region, but remains for the moment, at in the same position as Paraguay, one of the bypassed regions of the southern cone. The small Eastern Republic of Urguay who's existence is due to the strong rivality between its two powerful neigbours who were incapable of finding agreement on the division of the River plate estuary, has become an insular state because of it's role as a buffer. In the current context of internationalisation and economic integration in South America, Uruguay occupies an important position nontheless. The positive aspect of the situation is that the country benefits from a series of contact traditionally undertaken by ports and coastal areas due to its proximity to the Argentinian market. The Uruguayan coast is subject to pressure today due to the liberalization of the national economy. This reawaking of the coast is not without risk however : the requirement of massive and private investment. If the insertion of Uruguay as an important regional player is due to the value of its coastal access and notably by the reactivation of its ports, this one cannot be achieved without a territorial strategy which pricniples are necessary based on society choices.

    Subduction of a narrow slab of oceanic lithosphere beneath a tightly curved orogenic arc requires the presence of at least one lithospheric scale tear fault. While the Calabrian subduction beneath southern Italy is considered to be the type example of this geodynamic setting, the geometry, kinematics and surface expression of the associated lateral, slab tear fault offshore eastern Sicily remain controversial. Results from a new marine geophysical survey conducted in the Ionian Sea, using high-resolution bathymetry and seismic profiling reveal active faulting at the seafloor within a 140 km long, two-branched fault system near Alfeo Seamount. The previously unidentified 60 km long NW trending North Alfeo Fault system shows primarily strike-slip kinematics as indicated by the morphology and steep-dipping transpressional and transtensional faults. Available earthquake focal mechanisms indicate dextral strike-slip motion along this fault segment. The 80 km long SSE trending South Alfeo fault system is expressed by one or two steeply dipping normal faults, bounding the western side of a 500+ m thick, 5 km wide, elongate, syntectonic Plio-Quaternary sedimentary basin. Both branches of the fault system are mechanically capable of generating magnitude 6–7 earthquakes like those that struck eastern Sicily in 1169, 1542, and 1693. peer-reviewed

    Within the Subantarctic Mode Water (SAMW) density level, we study temporal changes in salinity, nutrients, oxygen and TTD (Transit Time Distribution) ages in the western (W) and eastern (E) subtropical gyre of the Indian Ocean (IO) from 1987 to 2002. Additionally, changes in Total Alkalinity (TA) and Dissolved Inorganic Carbon (DIC) are evaluated between 1995 and 2002. The mechanisms behind the detected changes are discussed along with the results from a hindcast model run (Community Climate System Model). The increasing salinity and decreasing oxygen trends from 1960 to 1987 reversed from 1987 to 2002 along the gyre. In the W-IO a decreasing trend in TTD ages points to a faster delivery of SAMW, thus less biogenic matter remineralization, explaining the oxygen increase and noisier nutrients decrease. In the E-IO SAMW, no change in TTD ages was detected, therefore the trends in oxygen and inorganic nutrients relate to changes in the Antarctic Surface Water transported into the E-IO SAMW formation area. In the W-IO between 1995 and 2002, the DIC increase is equal or even less than the anthropogenic input as the reduction in remineralization contributes to mask the increasing trend. In the E-IO between 1995 and 2002, DIC decreases slightly despite the increase in the anthropogenic input. Differences in the preformed E-IO SAMW conditions would explain this behavior. Trends in the W and E IO SAMW are decoupled and related to different forcing mechanisms in the two main sites of SAMW formation in the IO, at 40°S–70°E and 45°S–90°E, respectively. 3

    <p>Since 2010, the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) satellite mission monitors the earth emission at L-Band, providing the longest time series of Sea Surface Salinity (SSS) from space over the global ocean. However, retrieving SSS at high latitudes with a reasonable accuracy remains challenging, in particular due to the low sensitivity of L-Band radiometric measurements to SSS in cold waters and to the contamination of SMOS measurements by the vicinity of continents and sea ice as well as the presence of Radio Frequency Interferences. In this paper, we assess the quality of weekly SSS fields derived from swath-ordered instantaneous SMOS SSS (so called Level 2) distributed by the European Space Agency. These products are filtered according to new criteria. We use the pseudo-dielectric constant retrieved from SMOS brightness temperatures to filter SSS pixels polluted by sea ice. We identify that the dielectric constant model and the sea surface temperature auxiliary parameter used as prior information in the SMOS SSS retrieval are significant sources of uncertainty. We develop a novel correction methodology accordingly.</p><p>SSS Standard deviation of differences (STDD) between weekly SMOS SSS and in-situ near surface salinity significantly decrease after applying the SSS correction, from 1.46 pss to 1.26 pss. The correlation between new SMOS SSS and in-situ near surface salinity reaches 0.94. SMOS estimates better capture SSS variability in the Arctic Ocean in comparison to TOPAZ reanalysis (STDD = 1.86 pss), particularly in river plumes fresher by about 10 pss than surrounding waters. Furthermore, comparisons with in-situ measurements ranging from 1 to 11 m depths identify huge vertical stratification in fresh regions. This emphasizes the need to consider in-situ salinity as close as possible to the sea surface when validating L-band radiometric SSS which are representative of the first top centimeter.</p>

    Dans le cadre de l’utilisation de plus en plus courante des BFUP dans des structures techniquement ou architecturalement complexes et de la recherche d’optimisation de la quantité de matériau mis en œuvre, cette thèse s’intéresse au fonctionnement des jonctions en BFUP. Son objectif principal est de mettre en évidence les phénomènes physiques qui interviennent dans la jonction et de mieux les retranscrire dans les méthodes de calcul afin de mieux en maîtriser la sécurité et d’optimiser la matière mise en oeuvre.Le travail de thèse s’articule en quatre étapes :-Une étude bibliographique a permis d’établir les bases de connaissances permettant de dimensionner les campagnes expérimentales et de proposer une structure de modélisation des jonctions âme-membrure.-Le développement d’un modèle analytique avancé permettant de prédire le comportement d’une poutre en Té soumise à une sollicitation combinée de flexion longitudinale (et donc de cisaillement longitudinal dans la table) et de flexion transversale.-L’étude expérimentale, à l’échelle du matériau, du comportement des BFUP sous sollicitation de cisaillement pur. Cette étude permet d’enrichir les connaissances sur le comportement des BFUP (données encore indisponibles dans la carte d’identité des différents matériaux) et constitue également une donnée d’entrée pour la compréhension quantitative des phénomènes qui interviennent dans la jonction, à l’échelle de la structure, lorsqu’elle est sollicitée en cisaillement longitudinal.-Enfin, l’essai à rupture de 6 poutres en Té à l’échelle 1 a permis d’étudier le comportement expérimental des jonctions soumises à des sollicitations de cisaillement longitudinal. Les résultats expérimentaux de cette étude ont été comparés aux différentes prédictions analytiques possibles, y compris le modèle proposé.Ces travaux de thèse ont permis d’apporter de nouveaux outils de dimensionnement (notamment dans le cadre de l’étude de la résistance des jonctions en BFUP sous sollicitation de cisaillement pur). Ils mériteraient d’être complétés par des essais de poutres soumis à une sollicitation concomitante de flexion longitudinale et de flexion transversale, pour mieux conforter les méhodes d’analyse proposées Ultra-high performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) are increasingly used for technically or architecturally complex structures and research is going on to optimize design and save implemented material quantities. In this context, this thesis focuses on the mechanical behavior of junctions in UHPFRC structures. The main goal is to highlight physical phenomena occurring in the junctions in order to optimally transpose them into calculation methods. In this way, both safety and cost-efficience should be better controlled.This thesis is divided in four steps :-A literature review enabled to establish the background knowledge allowing to design the experimental campaigns and to suggest a modeling for web-flange junctions.-An advanced analytical model was developed in order to predict the behavior of a T-beam subjected to combined longitudinal bending (and therefore longitudinal shear in the table) and transverse bending.-The expérimental study, at the material scale, of UHPFRC behavior under pure shear stress, allowed enriching the knowledge in this field (data still unavailable in the identity card of current UHPFRC mixes). It also constituted an input for the quantitative understanding of the phenomena occuring in the junction, at the structure scale, when it is loaded in longitudinal shear.-Finally, the test of 6 full scale T-beams up to failure made it possible to study the experimental behavior of the junctions subjected to longitudinal shear stresses. The experimental results were compared with the various analytical predictions, including the proposed model.A new approch has thus been proposed to design junctions under longitudinal shear. It should be completed with experiments on T-beams under combined longitudinal and transverse bending to further validate the proposed analysis methods

    The seasonal and spatial variability of dissolved Barium (Ba) in the Amundsen Gulf, southeastern Beaufort Sea, was monitored over a full year from September 2007 to September 2008. Dissolved Ba displays a nutrient-type behavior: the maximum water column concentration is located below the surface layer. The highest Ba concentrations are typically observed at river mouths, the lowest concentrations are found in water masses of Atlantic origin. Barium concentrations decrease eastward through the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Barite (BaSO4) saturation is reached at the maximum dissolved Ba concentrations in the subsurface layer, whereas the rest of the water column is undersaturated. A three end-member mixing model comprising freshwater from sea-ice melt and rivers, as well as upper halocline water, is used to establish their relative contributions to the Ba concentrations in the upper water column of the Amundsen Gulf. Based on water column and riverine Ba contributions, we assess the depletion of dissolved Ba by formation and sinking of biologically bound Ba (bio-Ba), from which we derive an estimate of the carbon export production. In the upper 50 m of the water column of the Amundsen Gulf, riverine Ba accounts for up to 15% of the available dissolved Ba inventory, of which up to 20% is depleted by bio-Ba formation and export. Since riverine inputs and Ba export occur concurrently, the seasonal variability of dissolved Ba in the upper water column is moderate. Assuming a fixed organic carbon to bio-Ba flux ratio, carbon export out of the surface layer is estimated at 1.8 ± 0.45 mol C m-2 yr-1. Finally, we propose a climatological carbon budget for the Amundsen Gulf based on recent literature data and our findings, the latter bridging the surface and subsurface water carbon cycles.

    BONUS Symposium on Science Delivery for Sustainable Use of the Baltic Sea Living Resources, Tallinn, ESTONIA, OCT, 2017; International audience; Fisheries and marine ecosystem-based management requires a holistic understanding of the dynamics of fish communities and their responses to changes in environmental conditions. Environmental conditions can simultaneously shape the spatial distribution and the temporal dynamics of a population, which together can trigger changes in the functional structure of communities. Here, we developed a comprehensive framework based on complementary multivariate statistical methodologies to simultaneously investigate the effects of environmental conditions on the spatial, temporal and functional dynamics of species assemblages. The framework is tested using survey data collected during more than 4000 fisheries hauls over the Baltic Sea between 2001 and 2016. The approach revealed the Baltic fish community to be structured into three sub-assemblages along a strong and temporally stable salinity gradient decreasing from West to the East. Additionally, we highlight a mismatch between species and functional richness associated with a lower functional redundancy in the Baltic Proper compared with other sub-areas, suggesting an ecosystem more susceptible to external pressures. Based on a large dataset of community data analysed in an innovative and comprehensive way, we could disentangle the effects of environmental changes on the structure of biotic communities—key information for the management and conservation of ecosystems.

ORAL; International audience; In this paper, a study of UWB receivers in terms of detection theory is presented. The UWB radar which is presented in many works previously [1]-[3] has many applications. For road UWB radar application, the receiver based on correlation is the optimum receiver [4]. In fact, it maximizes the probability of detection. We will consider, in this study, a correlator receiver based on a threshold detection method. As in narrowband [5] [6], we will describe the theoretical study that evaluates the performance of the UWB receiver based on correlation in terms of detection and false alarm probabilities. Then a study of curves showing threshold receiver operating characteristics (ROC system), based on correlation and destined to be used for a UWB radar is presented. The study is original because it is presented for the first time in a UWB radar system.

TIGF is one of the French operator which manages 5000 km of pipelines in the south-west quarter of France. This paper presents a decision-making tool which automatically ranks the pipeline sections regarding the risk of deterioration (damages and corrosion) and the gravity of the consequences, indicating which pipeline sections should be excavated. The tool relies on a fuzzy expert system which gathers 26 input variables, processes more than 300 rules, classifies the risk of deterioration into 7 classes and estimates the gravity. The rules are a formalization of human expertise: the fuzzy logic helps to tackle the vagueness of their knowledge and the measurement inaccuracy of some of the 26 input variables. The method has been tested on past excavations to assess its performances.

    Existing literature does not draw conclusions as to which speedometer type is better for truck driving. A digital speedometer would be more beneficial when obtaining absolute and relative readings, while an analogue speedometer would be more efficient and less distracting when detecting dynamic speed changes. Redundant speedometers, which simultaneously present digital and analogue speedometers, appear increasingly in vehicles, but no information is available on their ergonomic qualities. This study compared three speedometers: digital speedometers, analogue speedometers, and redundant speedometers. This study compared the efficiency, usability and visual distraction measures for all three types of speedometers in a simulated truck driving setting. The task-dependant results were confirmed for the digital and analogue speedometer. The redundant speedometer combined the benefits of each type presented separately, which highlights interesting theoretical and applied implications.

    Le Mercosur constitue, depuis son lancement à la fin des années 1980, un puissant facteur de recomposition territoriale dont les transports sont les éléments moteurs. Placé au coeur du dispositif d'intégration, l'Uruguay, au marché intérieur particulièrement étroit, ambitionne d'en devenir le carrefour, mais demeure pour l'instant, au même titre que le Paraguay, un des espaces contournés du Cône sud. La petite République Orientale, dont l'existence trouve son origine dans la rivalité entre entre ses deux puissants voisins, incapables de s'entendre sur le partage de l'estuaire de le Plata, hérite du caractère insulaire que sa vocation d'Etat tampon lui confère. Dans le contexte actuel de l'internationalisation des échanges et de l'intégration économique sud-américaine, l'Uruguay bénéficie cependant d'une position remarquable. Cette rente de situation s'articule autour d'une série de contacts, traditionnellement assumés par des espaces littoraux où des sites portuaires et balnéaires de qualité bénéficient de la proximité du marché argentin. A la croisée de multiples usages, la rive uruguayenne subit aujourd'hui toutes sortes de pressions, réactivées par le désengagement de l'Etat et la mise en oeuvre de processus d'ouverture économique. Ce réveil du rivage comporte toutefois une part de risque : celui d'apports capitalistiques massifs mais ponctuels, essentiellement basés sur les seules logiques du retour sur investissement. Si l'insertion régionale de l'Uruguay passe par la mise en valeur de son interface littorale, et notamment par la réactivation de ses ports commerciaux longtemps restés en sommeil, celle-ci ne peut s'établir en l'absence d'une stratégie territoriale d'aménagement dont les principes reposent en partie sur des choix de société. Since its creation, in the late 1980's, Mercosur has been a driving force in the territorial reorganisation of which transport is one of the key elements. Placed at the heart of this integration, Uruguay, with it's restricted internal market, has ambitions to become the crossroad of the region, but remains for the moment, at in the same position as Paraguay, one of the bypassed regions of the southern cone. The small Eastern Republic of Urguay who's existence is due to the strong rivality between its two powerful neigbours who were incapable of finding agreement on the division of the River plate estuary, has become an insular state because of it's role as a buffer. In the current context of internationalisation and economic integration in South America, Uruguay occupies an important position nontheless. The positive aspect of the situation is that the country benefits from a series of contact traditionally undertaken by ports and coastal areas due to its proximity to the Argentinian market. The Uruguayan coast is subject to pressure today due to the liberalization of the national economy. This reawaking of the coast is not without risk however : the requirement of massive and private investment. If the insertion of Uruguay as an important regional player is due to the value of its coastal access and notably by the reactivation of its ports, this one cannot be achieved without a territorial strategy which pricniples are necessary based on society choices.

    Subduction of a narrow slab of oceanic lithosphere beneath a tightly curved orogenic arc requires the presence of at least one lithospheric scale tear fault. While the Calabrian subduction beneath southern Italy is considered to be the type example of this geodynamic setting, the geometry, kinematics and surface expression of the associated lateral, slab tear fault offshore eastern Sicily remain controversial. Results from a new marine geophysical survey conducted in the Ionian Sea, using high-resolution bathymetry and seismic profiling reveal active faulting at the seafloor within a 140 km long, two-branched fault system near Alfeo Seamount. The previously unidentified 60 km long NW trending North Alfeo Fault system shows primarily strike-slip kinematics as indicated by the morphology and steep-dipping transpressional and transtensional faults. Available earthquake focal mechanisms indicate dextral strike-slip motion along this fault segment. The 80 km long SSE trending South Alfeo fault system is expressed by one or two steeply dipping normal faults, bounding the western side of a 500+ m thick, 5 km wide, elongate, syntectonic Plio-Quaternary sedimentary basin. Both branches of the fault system are mechanically capable of generating magnitude 6–7 earthquakes like those that struck eastern Sicily in 1169, 1542, and 1693. peer-reviewed

    Within the Subantarctic Mode Water (SAMW) density level, we study temporal changes in salinity, nutrients, oxygen and TTD (Transit Time Distribution) ages in the western (W) and eastern (E) subtropical gyre of the Indian Ocean (IO) from 1987 to 2002. Additionally, changes in Total Alkalinity (TA) and Dissolved Inorganic Carbon (DIC) are evaluated between 1995 and 2002. The mechanisms behind the detected changes are discussed along with the results from a hindcast model run (Community Climate System Model). The increasing salinity and decreasing oxygen trends from 1960 to 1987 reversed from 1987 to 2002 along the gyre. In the W-IO a decreasing trend in TTD ages points to a faster delivery of SAMW, thus less biogenic matter remineralization, explaining the oxygen increase and noisier nutrients decrease. In the E-IO SAMW, no change in TTD ages was detected, therefore the trends in oxygen and inorganic nutrients relate to changes in the Antarctic Surface Water transported into the E-IO SAMW formation area. In the W-IO between 1995 and 2002, the DIC increase is equal or even less than the anthropogenic input as the reduction in remineralization contributes to mask the increasing trend. In the E-IO between 1995 and 2002, DIC decreases slightly despite the increase in the anthropogenic input. Differences in the preformed E-IO SAMW conditions would explain this behavior. Trends in the W and E IO SAMW are decoupled and related to different forcing mechanisms in the two main sites of SAMW formation in the IO, at 40°S–70°E and 45°S–90°E, respectively. 3

    <p>Since 2010, the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) satellite mission monitors the earth emission at L-Band, providing the longest time series of Sea Surface Salinity (SSS) from space over the global ocean. However, retrieving SSS at high latitudes with a reasonable accuracy remains challenging, in particular due to the low sensitivity of L-Band radiometric measurements to SSS in cold waters and to the contamination of SMOS measurements by the vicinity of continents and sea ice as well as the presence of Radio Frequency Interferences. In this paper, we assess the quality of weekly SSS fields derived from swath-ordered instantaneous SMOS SSS (so called Level 2) distributed by the European Space Agency. These products are filtered according to new criteria. We use the pseudo-dielectric constant retrieved from SMOS brightness temperatures to filter SSS pixels polluted by sea ice. We identify that the dielectric constant model and the sea surface temperature auxiliary parameter used as prior information in the SMOS SSS retrieval are significant sources of uncertainty. We develop a novel correction methodology accordingly.</p><p>SSS Standard deviation of differences (STDD) between weekly SMOS SSS and in-situ near surface salinity significantly decrease after applying the SSS correction, from 1.46 pss to 1.26 pss. The correlation between new SMOS SSS and in-situ near surface salinity reaches 0.94. SMOS estimates better capture SSS variability in the Arctic Ocean in comparison to TOPAZ reanalysis (STDD = 1.86 pss), particularly in river plumes fresher by about 10 pss than surrounding waters. Furthermore, comparisons with in-situ measurements ranging from 1 to 11 m depths identify huge vertical stratification in fresh regions. This emphasizes the need to consider in-situ salinity as close as possible to the sea surface when validating L-band radiometric SSS which are representative of the first top centimeter.</p>

    Dans le cadre de l’utilisation de plus en plus courante des BFUP dans des structures techniquement ou architecturalement complexes et de la recherche d’optimisation de la quantité de matériau mis en œuvre, cette thèse s’intéresse au fonctionnement des jonctions en BFUP. Son objectif principal est de mettre en évidence les phénomènes physiques qui interviennent dans la jonction et de mieux les retranscrire dans les méthodes de calcul afin de mieux en maîtriser la sécurité et d’optimiser la matière mise en oeuvre.Le travail de thèse s’articule en quatre étapes :-Une étude bibliographique a permis d’établir les bases de connaissances permettant de dimensionner les campagnes expérimentales et de proposer une structure de modélisation des jonctions âme-membrure.-Le développement d’un modèle analytique avancé permettant de prédire le comportement d’une poutre en Té soumise à une sollicitation combinée de flexion longitudinale (et donc de cisaillement longitudinal dans la table) et de flexion transversale.-L’étude expérimentale, à l’échelle du matériau, du comportement des BFUP sous sollicitation de cisaillement pur. Cette étude permet d’enrichir les connaissances sur le comportement des BFUP (données encore indisponibles dans la carte d’identité des différents matériaux) et constitue également une donnée d’entrée pour la compréhension quantitative des phénomènes qui interviennent dans la jonction, à l’échelle de la structure, lorsqu’elle est sollicitée en cisaillement longitudinal.-Enfin, l’essai à rupture de 6 poutres en Té à l’échelle 1 a permis d’étudier le comportement expérimental des jonctions soumises à des sollicitations de cisaillement longitudinal. Les résultats expérimentaux de cette étude ont été comparés aux différentes prédictions analytiques possibles, y compris le modèle proposé.Ces travaux de thèse ont permis d’apporter de nouveaux outils de dimensionnement (notamment dans le cadre de l’étude de la résistance des jonctions en BFUP sous sollicitation de cisaillement pur). Ils mériteraient d’être complétés par des essais de poutres soumis à une sollicitation concomitante de flexion longitudinale et de flexion transversale, pour mieux conforter les méhodes d’analyse proposées Ultra-high performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) are increasingly used for technically or architecturally complex structures and research is going on to optimize design and save implemented material quantities. In this context, this thesis focuses on the mechanical behavior of junctions in UHPFRC structures. The main goal is to highlight physical phenomena occurring in the junctions in order to optimally transpose them into calculation methods. In this way, both safety and cost-efficience should be better controlled.This thesis is divided in four steps :-A literature review enabled to establish the background knowledge allowing to design the experimental campaigns and to suggest a modeling for web-flange junctions.-An advanced analytical model was developed in order to predict the behavior of a T-beam subjected to combined longitudinal bending (and therefore longitudinal shear in the table) and transverse bending.-The expérimental study, at the material scale, of UHPFRC behavior under pure shear stress, allowed enriching the knowledge in this field (data still unavailable in the identity card of current UHPFRC mixes). It also constituted an input for the quantitative understanding of the phenomena occuring in the junction, at the structure scale, when it is loaded in longitudinal shear.-Finally, the test of 6 full scale T-beams up to failure made it possible to study the experimental behavior of the junctions subjected to longitudinal shear stresses. The experimental results were compared with the various analytical predictions, including the proposed model.A new approch has thus been proposed to design junctions under longitudinal shear. It should be completed with experiments on T-beams under combined longitudinal and transverse bending to further validate the proposed analysis methods

    The seasonal and spatial variability of dissolved Barium (Ba) in the Amundsen Gulf, southeastern Beaufort Sea, was monitored over a full year from September 2007 to September 2008. Dissolved Ba displays a nutrient-type behavior: the maximum water column concentration is located below the surface layer. The highest Ba concentrations are typically observed at river mouths, the lowest concentrations are found in water masses of Atlantic origin. Barium concentrations decrease eastward through the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Barite (BaSO4) saturation is reached at the maximum dissolved Ba concentrations in the subsurface layer, whereas the rest of the water column is undersaturated. A three end-member mixing model comprising freshwater from sea-ice melt and rivers, as well as upper halocline water, is used to establish their relative contributions to the Ba concentrations in the upper water column of the Amundsen Gulf. Based on water column and riverine Ba contributions, we assess the depletion of dissolved Ba by formation and sinking of biologically bound Ba (bio-Ba), from which we derive an estimate of the carbon export production. In the upper 50 m of the water column of the Amundsen Gulf, riverine Ba accounts for up to 15% of the available dissolved Ba inventory, of which up to 20% is depleted by bio-Ba formation and export. Since riverine inputs and Ba export occur concurrently, the seasonal variability of dissolved Ba in the upper water column is moderate. Assuming a fixed organic carbon to bio-Ba flux ratio, carbon export out of the surface layer is estimated at 1.8 ± 0.45 mol C m-2 yr-1. Finally, we propose a climatological carbon budget for the Amundsen Gulf based on recent literature data and our findings, the latter bridging the surface and subsurface water carbon cycles.

    BONUS Symposium on Science Delivery for Sustainable Use of the Baltic Sea Living Resources, Tallinn, ESTONIA, OCT, 2017; International audience; Fisheries and marine ecosystem-based management requires a holistic understanding of the dynamics of fish communities and their responses to changes in environmental conditions. Environmental conditions can simultaneously shape the spatial distribution and the temporal dynamics of a population, which together can trigger changes in the functional structure of communities. Here, we developed a comprehensive framework based on complementary multivariate statistical methodologies to simultaneously investigate the effects of environmental conditions on the spatial, temporal and functional dynamics of species assemblages. The framework is tested using survey data collected during more than 4000 fisheries hauls over the Baltic Sea between 2001 and 2016. The approach revealed the Baltic fish community to be structured into three sub-assemblages along a strong and temporally stable salinity gradient decreasing from West to the East. Additionally, we highlight a mismatch between species and functional richness associated with a lower functional redundancy in the Baltic Proper compared with other sub-areas, suggesting an ecosystem more susceptible to external pressures. Based on a large dataset of community data analysed in an innovative and comprehensive way, we could disentangle the effects of environmental changes on the structure of biotic communities—key information for the management and conservation of ecosystems.
