description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Other literature type , Article 2021 BelgiumPublisher:Hindawi Limited Hasnae Lamrani Alaoui; Abdellatif El Ghazi; Mostapha Zbakh; Abdellah Touhafi; An Braeken;The availability of safety has always been a challenge in all fields of computing and networking, and the development of reliable security measures for low operating power systems has been a continuous task for researchers. This paper focuses on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems, whose market is tremendously growing due to the increasing need for efficient supply chain and healthcare management. Two protocols are proposed that offer mutual authentication, confidentiality, forward security, anonymity, unlinkability, scalability, and resistance against the most important security attacks. They differ in storage requirements at the server side. Both proposed protocols are very efficient as the number of required elliptic curve multiplications is limited to two at the tag side. Moreover, the schemes are also more effective and secure than other related work presented in literature. In addition, we show how to extend the protocols in order to provide authentication with respect to multiple readers.

By means of the Volterra series, the nonlinear structure excited by random excitation is modeled as best linear approximation plus a term representing nonlinear distortions. As the nonlinear distortions are of stochastic nature and thus indistinguishable from the measurement noise, a protocol based on the use of the random phase multisine is proposed to reveal the accuracy and robustness of the linear OMA technique in the presence of the system nonlinearity. Several frequency- and time-domain based OMA techniques are examined for the modal identification of simulated and real nonlinear mechanical systems. Theoretical analyses are also provided to understand how the system nonlinearity degrades the performance of the OMA algorithms.

Such a system consists of a number of agents connected by means of unidirectional communication channels. Agents communicate with each other by passing answer sets obtained by updating the information received from connected agents with their own private information. We introduce a credulous answer set semantics for logic programming agents. As an application, we show how extensive games with perfect information can be conveniently represented as logic programming agent systems, where each agent embodies the reasoning of a game player, such that the equilibria of the game correspond with the semantics agreed upon by the agents in the LPAS.

However, the same multi-objective payoff vector may lead to different utilities for each participant. Therefore, it is essential for an agent to learn about the behaviour of other agents in the system. In this work, we present the first study of the effects of such opponent modelling on multi-objective multi-agent interactions with non-linear utilities. Specifically, we consider two-player multi-objective normal form games with non-linear utility functions under the scalarised expected returns optimisation criterion. We contribute novel actor-critic and policy gradient formulations to allow reinforcement learning of mixed strategies in this setting, along with extensions that incorporate opponent policy reconstruction and learning with opponent learning awareness (i.e., learning while considering the impact of one's policy when anticipating the opponent's learning step). Empirical results in five different MONFGs demonstrate that opponent learning awareness and modelling can drastically alter the learning dynamics in this setting. When equilibria are present, opponent modelling can confer significant benefits on agents that implement it. When there are no Nash equilibria, opponent learning awareness and modelling allows agents to still converge to meaningful solutions that approximate equilibria. Under review since 14 November 2020

NeuroEvolution of Augmenting Topologies (NEAT) is considered one of the most influential algorithms in the field. Eighteen years after its invention, a plethora of methods have been proposed that extend NEAT in different aspects. In this article, we present a systematic literature review (SLR) to list and categorize the methods succeeding NEAT. Our review protocol identified 232 papers by merging the findings of two major electronic databases. Applying criteria that determine the paper's relevance and assess its quality, resulted in 61 methods that are presented in this article. Our review article proposes a new categorization scheme of NEAT's successors into three clusters. NEAT-based methods are categorized based on 1) whether they consider issues specific to the search space or the fitness landscape, 2) whether they combine principles from NE and another domain, or 3) the particular properties of the evolved ANNs. The clustering supports researchers 1) understanding the current state of the art that will enable them, 2) exploring new research directions or 3) benchmarking their proposed method to the state of the art, if they are interested in comparing, and 4) positioning themselves in the domain or 5) selecting a method that is most appropriate for their problem.

Given their size, managing these systems to perform optimally is a task that should be automated. Multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) is a suitable technique for tackling such problems. However, the application of MARL in a distributed system is not trivial. To bridge the gap between these two domains, we introduce the Marlon language. It enables MARL experts to focus on solving machine learning problems, rather than the complexities of distributed computing. We evaluate Marlon by comparing the implementation of a load balancing use case in Marlon with an ad-hoc implementation.

Although research in search engine technology has led to various models over the past three decades, the investigation for effectively integrating the dimensions of context to deploy advanced search technology has been limited due to the lack of a unified modeling and evaluation framework. Quantum Theory (QT) has created new and unprecedented means for communicating and computing. Besides computer science, optics, electronics, physics, QT and search engine technology can be combined: interference in user interaction; entanglement in cognition; superposition in word meaning; non-classical probability in information ranking; complex vector spaces in multimedia search. This paper highlights our recent results on QT-inspired search engine technology.

Chloride-based salt hydrates form a promising class of thermochemical materials (TCMs), having high storage capacity and fast kinetics. In the charging cycles of these hydrates however hydrolysis might appear along with dehydration. The HCl produced during the hydrolysis degrades and corrodes the storage system. Our GGA-DFT results show that the enthalpy charge during proton formation (an important step in hydrolysis) is much higher for CaCl2·2H2O (33.75 kcal/mol) than for MgCl2·2H2O (19.55 kcal/mol). This is a strong indicator that hydrolysis can be minimized by appropriate chemical mixing of CaCl2 and Mg Cl2 hydrates, which is also confirmed by recent experimental studies. GGA-DFT calculations were performed to obtain and analyze the optimized structures, charge distributions, bonding indicators and harmonic frequencies of various chemical mixtures hydrates and compared them to their elementary salts hydrates. We have further assessed the equilibrium products concentration of dehydration/hydrolysis of the chemical mixtures under a wide range of operating conditions. We observed that chemical mixing leads to an increase of the onset hydrolysis temperature with a maximum value of 79 K, thus increasing the resistance against hydrolysis with respect to the elementary salt hydrates. We also found that the chemical mixing of CaCl2 and MgCl2 hydrates widens the operating dehydration temperature range by a maximum value of 182 K (CaMg2Cl6·2H2O) and lowers the binding enthalpy with respect to the physical mixture by ≈65 kcal/mol for TCM based heat storage systems.

As planned since the beginning of this effort a Regulation, the General Data Protection Regulation is going to replace the 1995 Directive and a Directive, the Police and Criminal Justice Data Protection Directive, the 2008 Data Protection Framework Decision. In this way a long process that started as early as in 2009, peaked in early 2012, and required another three years to pass through the Parliament's and the Council's scrutiny is finished. Whether this reform package and its end-result is cause to celebrate or to lament depends on the perspective, the interests and the expectations of the beholder. Four years ago we published an article in this journal under the title “The proposed data protection Regulation replacing Directive 95/46/EC: A sound system for the protection of individuals”. This paper essentially constitutes a continuation of that article: now that the General Data Protection Regulation's final provisions are at hand it is possible to present differences with the first draft prepared by the Commission, to discuss the issues raised through its law-making passage over the past few years, and to attempt to assess the effectiveness of its final provisions in relation to their declared purposes.

This new measure benefits from nice mathematical properties like boundedness to [0;1], relative error weighting based on the magnitudes of the signals, steerable similarity between original and negative phase; symmetry with respect to ordering of the arguments and the regularity of at least a continuous function. Utilizing its versatile design, here we present a set of VSM constructions specifically tailored to best fit the characteristics of complex wavefield of holograms. Also performance analysis results are provided by comparing the proposed constructions as fast, stand-alone perceptual quality predictors to few available competitors of the field, namely MSE and the average SSIM of the real and imaginary parts of holograms. Comparing their visual quality prediction scores with the mean opinion scores (MOS) of the hologram reconstructions shows a significant gain for all of the VSM constructions proposed in this paper, paving the way towards designing highly efficient perceptual quality predictors for holographic data in the future and also representing the potential of utilizing VSM for other applications working with complex valued data as well.

This paper focuses on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems, whose market is tremendously growing due to the increasing need for efficient supply chain and healthcare management. Two protocols are proposed that offer mutual authentication, confidentiality, forward security, anonymity, unlinkability, scalability, and resistance against the most important security attacks. They differ in storage requirements at the server side. Both proposed protocols are very efficient as the number of required elliptic curve multiplications is limited to two at the tag side. Moreover, the schemes are also more effective and secure than other related work presented in literature. In addition, we show how to extend the protocols in order to provide authentication with respect to multiple readers.

By means of the Volterra series, the nonlinear structure excited by random excitation is modeled as best linear approximation plus a term representing nonlinear distortions. As the nonlinear distortions are of stochastic nature and thus indistinguishable from the measurement noise, a protocol based on the use of the random phase multisine is proposed to reveal the accuracy and robustness of the linear OMA technique in the presence of the system nonlinearity. Several frequency- and time-domain based OMA techniques are examined for the modal identification of simulated and real nonlinear mechanical systems. Theoretical analyses are also provided to understand how the system nonlinearity degrades the performance of the OMA algorithms.

Such a system consists of a number of agents connected by means of unidirectional communication channels. Agents communicate with each other by passing answer sets obtained by updating the information received from connected agents with their own private information. We introduce a credulous answer set semantics for logic programming agents. As an application, we show how extensive games with perfect information can be conveniently represented as logic programming agent systems, where each agent embodies the reasoning of a game player, such that the equilibria of the game correspond with the semantics agreed upon by the agents in the LPAS.

However, the same multi-objective payoff vector may lead to different utilities for each participant. Therefore, it is essential for an agent to learn about the behaviour of other agents in the system. In this work, we present the first study of the effects of such opponent modelling on multi-objective multi-agent interactions with non-linear utilities. Specifically, we consider two-player multi-objective normal form games with non-linear utility functions under the scalarised expected returns optimisation criterion. We contribute novel actor-critic and policy gradient formulations to allow reinforcement learning of mixed strategies in this setting, along with extensions that incorporate opponent policy reconstruction and learning with opponent learning awareness (i.e., learning while considering the impact of one's policy when anticipating the opponent's learning step). Empirical results in five different MONFGs demonstrate that opponent learning awareness and modelling can drastically alter the learning dynamics in this setting. When equilibria are present, opponent modelling can confer significant benefits on agents that implement it. When there are no Nash equilibria, opponent learning awareness and modelling allows agents to still converge to meaningful solutions that approximate equilibria. Under review since 14 November 2020

NeuroEvolution of Augmenting Topologies (NEAT) is considered one of the most influential algorithms in the field. Eighteen years after its invention, a plethora of methods have been proposed that extend NEAT in different aspects. In this article, we present a systematic literature review (SLR) to list and categorize the methods succeeding NEAT. Our review protocol identified 232 papers by merging the findings of two major electronic databases. Applying criteria that determine the paper's relevance and assess its quality, resulted in 61 methods that are presented in this article. Our review article proposes a new categorization scheme of NEAT's successors into three clusters. NEAT-based methods are categorized based on 1) whether they consider issues specific to the search space or the fitness landscape, 2) whether they combine principles from NE and another domain, or 3) the particular properties of the evolved ANNs. The clustering supports researchers 1) understanding the current state of the art that will enable them, 2) exploring new research directions or 3) benchmarking their proposed method to the state of the art, if they are interested in comparing, and 4) positioning themselves in the domain or 5) selecting a method that is most appropriate for their problem.

Given their size, managing these systems to perform optimally is a task that should be automated. Multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) is a suitable technique for tackling such problems. However, the application of MARL in a distributed system is not trivial. To bridge the gap between these two domains, we introduce the Marlon language. It enables MARL experts to focus on solving machine learning problems, rather than the complexities of distributed computing. We evaluate Marlon by comparing the implementation of a load balancing use case in Marlon with an ad-hoc implementation.

Although research in search engine technology has led to various models over the past three decades, the investigation for effectively integrating the dimensions of context to deploy advanced search technology has been limited due to the lack of a unified modeling and evaluation framework. Quantum Theory (QT) has created new and unprecedented means for communicating and computing. Besides computer science, optics, electronics, physics, QT and search engine technology can be combined: interference in user interaction; entanglement in cognition; superposition in word meaning; non-classical probability in information ranking; complex vector spaces in multimedia search. This paper highlights our recent results on QT-inspired search engine technology.

Chloride-based salt hydrates form a promising class of thermochemical materials (TCMs), having high storage capacity and fast kinetics. In the charging cycles of these hydrates however hydrolysis might appear along with dehydration. The HCl produced during the hydrolysis degrades and corrodes the storage system. Our GGA-DFT results show that the enthalpy charge during proton formation (an important step in hydrolysis) is much higher for CaCl2·2H2O (33.75 kcal/mol) than for MgCl2·2H2O (19.55 kcal/mol). This is a strong indicator that hydrolysis can be minimized by appropriate chemical mixing of CaCl2 and Mg Cl2 hydrates, which is also confirmed by recent experimental studies. GGA-DFT calculations were performed to obtain and analyze the optimized structures, charge distributions, bonding indicators and harmonic frequencies of various chemical mixtures hydrates and compared them to their elementary salts hydrates. We have further assessed the equilibrium products concentration of dehydration/hydrolysis of the chemical mixtures under a wide range of operating conditions. We observed that chemical mixing leads to an increase of the onset hydrolysis temperature with a maximum value of 79 K, thus increasing the resistance against hydrolysis with respect to the elementary salt hydrates. We also found that the chemical mixing of CaCl2 and MgCl2 hydrates widens the operating dehydration temperature range by a maximum value of 182 K (CaMg2Cl6·2H2O) and lowers the binding enthalpy with respect to the physical mixture by ≈65 kcal/mol for TCM based heat storage systems.

As planned since the beginning of this effort a Regulation, the General Data Protection Regulation is going to replace the 1995 Directive and a Directive, the Police and Criminal Justice Data Protection Directive, the 2008 Data Protection Framework Decision. In this way a long process that started as early as in 2009, peaked in early 2012, and required another three years to pass through the Parliament's and the Council's scrutiny is finished. Whether this reform package and its end-result is cause to celebrate or to lament depends on the perspective, the interests and the expectations of the beholder. Four years ago we published an article in this journal under the title “The proposed data protection Regulation replacing Directive 95/46/EC: A sound system for the protection of individuals”. This paper essentially constitutes a continuation of that article: now that the General Data Protection Regulation's final provisions are at hand it is possible to present differences with the first draft prepared by the Commission, to discuss the issues raised through its law-making passage over the past few years, and to attempt to assess the effectiveness of its final provisions in relation to their declared purposes.

This new measure benefits from nice mathematical properties like boundedness to [0;1], relative error weighting based on the magnitudes of the signals, steerable similarity between original and negative phase; symmetry with respect to ordering of the arguments and the regularity of at least a continuous function. Utilizing its versatile design, here we present a set of VSM constructions specifically tailored to best fit the characteristics of complex wavefield of holograms. Also performance analysis results are provided by comparing the proposed constructions as fast, stand-alone perceptual quality predictors to few available competitors of the field, namely MSE and the average SSIM of the real and imaginary parts of holograms. Comparing their visual quality prediction scores with the mean opinion scores (MOS) of the hologram reconstructions shows a significant gain for all of the VSM constructions proposed in this paper, paving the way towards designing highly efficient perceptual quality predictors for holographic data in the future and also representing the potential of utilizing VSM for other applications working with complex valued data as well.
