description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Conference object 2018 FrancePublisher:SCITEPRESS - Science and Technology Publications Pinto, Danieli; Oliveira, Mariana, C; Bortolozzi, Flávio; Matta, Nada; Tenório, Nelson;International audience; The software industry is dynamic and complex, so they need to use the knowledge to excel in a highly competitive market. Thus, the knowledge well managed brings the organization a sustainable and competitive advantage. Knowledge Management (KM) processes can avoid knowledge lost since they provide knowledge flow for the whole organization. These processes are supported by practices and tools promoting the creation, retention, and dissemination of the knowledge within the organizational environment. The objective of this study was to validate, through a proof of concept (POC), a questionnaire to investigate the processes, practices, and tools of KM in SME-Soft. The questionnaire was evaluated by fifty-one professionals and KM experts from the software industry. Our findings point out that the questionnaire is suitable for the software industry.

Such infrastructures use alarms, event and fault information, which is recorded to help diagnose and repair failure conditions by operations experts. This data can be analysed using explainable artificial intelligence to attempt to reveal precursors and eventual root causes. The proposed method is first applied to synthetic data in order to prove functionality. With synthetic data the framework makes extremely precise predictions and root causes can be identified correctly. Subsequently, the method is applied to real data from a complex particle accelerator system. In the real data setting, deep learning models produce accurate predictive models from less than ten error examples when precursors are captured. The approach described herein is a potentially valuable tool for operations experts to identify precursors in complex infrastructures.

At least two sometimes complementary and colliding threads have emerged. The first focuses on the development of pragmatic tools for increasing the transparency of automatically learned prediction models, as for instance by deep or reinforcement learning. The second is aimed at anticipating the negative impact of opaque models with the desire to regulate or control impactful consequences of incorrect predictions, especially in sensitive areas like medicine and law. The formulation of methods to augment the construction of predictive models with domain knowledge can provide support for producing human understandable explanations for predictions. This runs in parallel with AI regulatory concerns, like the European Union General Data Protection Regulation, which sets standards for the production of explanations from automated or semi-automated decision making. Despite the fact that all this research activity is the growing acknowledgement that the topic of explainability is essential, it is important to recall that it is also among the oldest fields of computer science. In fact, early AI was re-traceable, interpretable, thus understandable by and explainable to humans. The goal of this research is to articulate the big picture ideas and their role in advancing the development of XAI systems, to acknowledge their historical roots, and to emphasise the biggest challenges to moving forward.

Our proposal is to apply general principles from a hybrid approach between forecasting (trends) and principled backcasting to industrial companies. These principles provide guidelines for each of the five dimensions of sustainability (political, territorial, social, environmental and economic). The developed method is based on the strategic process (analyze, choose, deploy) to include additional dimensions in the design of the product through the value constellation of the extended company. Two trajectories are explored: the integration of the environment (case studies) and the territory (theory) in product design through organizational innovation driven by the renewal of strategic and operational governance. This interdisciplinary research lays the foundation for the development of a method to support the transition of industrial companies towards the 5-dimensions sustainable development by integrating new dimensions hitherto little or no exploited in the product design process

Evolutionary operators are applied to user choices expecting to produce better solutions. As traditional IEC ask the user to give a mark to each solution or to explicitly choose bests solutions with a mouse, we propose a new framework that uses in real time gaze information to predict which parts of a screen is more significant for a user. We can therefore avoid the user to explicitly choose which solutions are interesting for him. In this paper, we mainly focus on automatically ordering solutions shown on a screen given a gaze path obtained by an eye-tracker. We applied several supervised learning methods (SVM, neural networks...) on two different experiments. We obtain a formula that predict with 85% user choices. We demonstrate that decisive criterion is time spent on one solution and we show the independency between this formula and the experiment.

We study the employment and sales growth of entrepreneurial ventures that have received a governmentsponsored participative loan (PL), a hybrid form of financing between debt and equity. We use propensity-score matching (PSM) and instrumental variable analysis (2SLS) to study a sample of 512 entrepreneurial Ventures that received a PL from a Spanish government agency between 2005 and 2011. We find evidence that PLs significantly boosted their beneficiaries’ employment and sales. In the two years following loan issuance, a 1-million-Euro PL generated an increase in average employment of between 12.1 (PSM) and 14.7 (2SLS) units and an increase in sales of between 1.09 and 1.97 million Euro relative to the average for the two years prior to loan issuance. The effect is larger for high-tech, young and small entrepreneurial ventures and for those that received a PL during the global financial crisis. The effect on growth is significant and stable, and PLs increase their beneficiaries’ annual growth by 10.6% for employment and by 18.0% for sales. We do not find evidence of industry or regional spillovers, nor do we find differences in the probability of survival of PL beneficiaries after we control for their characteristics. We are grateful to two anonymous referees and to the associate editor Maria Savona for the constructive comments. We acknowledge financial assistance from the Spanish Ministry of Economics and Competitiveness (ECO2014-55674-R).

This paper aims at analysing the role of the transnational Tidjani pilgrimage to Fez in shaping a sense of belonging among West African adepts and their identification with Morocco. It is based on the assumption that the Tidjani pilgrimage has contributed to the shaping of a religious ‘imagined community’ (Anderson, 1996) encompassing West Africa and Morocco and to the reinforcement of the position of Fez as its ‘socio-cultural centre’ (Cohen, 1992). This paper explores the different historical and political factors that contributed to the evolution and maintaining of the Tidjani pilgrimage practice and to giving sense to it, and analyses the meanings, religious as well as secular that the West African Tidjani pilgrimage has today. Whereas Moroccan national issues contribute to the State’s instrumentation of the West African Tidjani shrine and its commodification, this research has shown that also other aspects (the link between pilgrimage and trade and/or migration) have played a crucial role in maintaining the Tidjani pilgrimage and in giving sense to it. In this way, the Tidjani pilgrimage is also experienced as a communal journey especially for West African Tidjani migrants living in Europe and for whom Fez represents a geographically close central pling the Tidjani pilgrimage and in giving sense to it. In this way, the Tidjani pilgrimage is also experienced as a communal journey especially for West African Tidjani migrants living in Europe and for whom Fez represents a geographically close central place where they can gather with their peers and connect with ‘home’. Furthermore, the Tidjani pilgrimage represents a way to narrate and construct a transnational Tidjani imagined community in which Moroccan territory and culture are integrated.

International audience; This article examines organizational professionalism at work and in action. I focus on how organizational professionalism emerges in the workplace and what kinds of situated skills are involved. Organizational professionalism is explored in three dimensions (activity, politics, and ethics), from which the notion of organizational senseis developed. Organizational sense has three accepted meanings. The first accepted meaning relates to everydayness and ecologies of action. It has collective, material, and informational dimensions, and is distributed between people and objects. The second accepted meaning concerns the political dimension of performing a professional activity and its sensitivity (attentiveness, discernment, etc.). The third accepted meaning concerns ethics and examines loyalty toward an organization. The notion of organizational sense is illustrated by means of fieldwork with a population of internal communicators working in seven major French organizations.

However, although there is a growing body of work on scaffolded tools, scaffold design, and the impact of scaffolding, the field has not yet converged on a common theoretical framework that defines rationales and approaches to guide the design of scaffolded tools. In this article, we present a scaffolding design framework addressing scaffolded software tools for science inquiry. Developed through iterative cycles of inductive and theory-based analysis, the framework synthesizes the work of prior design efforts, theoretical arguments, and empirical work in a set of guidelines that are organized around science inquiry practices and the challenges learners face in those practices. The framework can provide a basis for developing a theory of pedagogical support and a mechanism to describe successful scaffolding approaches. It can also guide design, not in a prescriptive manner but by providing designers with heuristics and examples of possible ways to address the challenges learners face.
