In the last 44 years, live populations have decreased by 60 percent, and one million species are in danger of extinction. Due to the climate crisis, migrations are on the rise, with only 17 million people migrating around the world in 2018. In 2050, 200 million people are expected to emigrate. By 2100, the sea water level can rise up to 2 meters. In this case, millions of people will have to migrate from where they live. Due to the climate crisis, 120 million people will become poorer in the next 11 years and millions of people will be deprived of basic human needs such as living, nutrition, housing and water. Most people know the environmental problems we are facing now, but how many of them take a step for these problems? In this project we aim to develop environmental consciousness not only in students (age 14-19) of all partner schools that will be represented by at least 20 young people with different social, economical and educational backgrounds per each school, but also in their communities. Apart from obvious project objectives, like increasing the knowledge of how to use ICT tools to communicate with fellow students from other parts of Europe and increasing pupils’ motivation for learning foreign languages, we would also like to help young people to explore the possibilities to act towards sustainable living culture. Our aim is not to act upon fear and distress, so often accompanying the topic, but to build new ecological perspectives based on joy, positive approach to climate change and effective, applicable solutions in every household, school and community. During the project period, we all will develop emotional and rational bondages with the topic through transforming all our experiences into creative results like writing pieces (lyrics, poems etc.), presentations, videos, discussions, games, cleaning activities, experiments, planting a tree, thinking about various, applicable solutions ready for every household, designing an eco-friendly school, visiting inspiring places that are already involved in solving/promoting ecological values etc. As climate changes have an impact on all of us, we would like to start looking for solutions, to increase intrinsic motivation for improvement and to start giving a good example to others by means of collaboration in group work by establishing a cherishing attitude of taking care of the environment together. As ""we have a responsibility to leave for future generations a planet that is healthy and habitable by all species."" (Sir D. Attenborough). Our partners will form an international team working on numerous activities focused on general ideas of a climate change. The main objective of the project is to let students develop a positive, optimistic and clear understanding of some of the most important environmental topics and issues listed as: A) Climate Changes or ""There is no Planet B"" (NL)B) Recycling or ""Reduce, Reuse, Recycle"" (A)C) Pollution or ""Go Blue, Think Green"" (IT)D) Protection of Plants and Species or ""To Bee or Not to Bee""(HR)E) Renewable energy or ""Clean Energy for a Bright Future"" (SP)F) Water Management or ""Put a Stop to Every Drop"" (TK)Climate change does not just threaten the Earth system, it could also undermine the Sustainable Development Goals. The Sustainable Development Goals are 17 targets set by the United Nations to end poverty, reduce inequality and tackle climate change. The goals are all interlinked, because we are one globalised species living on one planet. Climate changes are expected to have their greatest impacts on the poorest and most vulnerable communities, children among them. We think that as climate change is a global problem that does not respect national borders, we need to work together as a global community. We have decided that at least 10 out of 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals will bind our activities and have an impact on us and our communities. Even if the goals are not legally binding, they are implemented in national-level policies, and many businesses and communities respond positively to them. The official outcomes of the implementation will be assessed in 2030, ours already in 2022."

A major motivation for this project was our daily experience with the refugees. As migration is also a current topic in Slovenia we quickly found a partner. The high school “Slovenske Konjice” with 15 students (fifth and sixth grade with lessons in German) and two teachers, as well as the WI’MO with 14 students of the “Culture and Media Lab Studies” of the third year and 10 students of the course for asylum seekers (aged 15 to 20) as well as 6 teachers take part in the project. The project will last for 24 months. We expect to develop more respect for each other through the intensive discussion of the topic of migration in Europe, but also through the direct contact with the refugees. We will work with creative means to diminish fear of contact and to strengthen the European idea with the adolescents. In addition, it is our aim to create a deeper understanding of cultural and national differences as well as to develop openness and tolerance. Another aim is to strengthen foreign language skills. The working languages during the project will be German (important for the Slovene students and the migrants) and English. By using digital media (photo, film, webpage, Augmented Reality, InDesign, Scratch, etc.) the competences of the students will be fostered in these fields. The envisaged aims will be secured by professional quality management, for which the “Culture and Media Lab”-team (Birgit Potz, Brigitte Magnes) will be responsible as project coordinators. Before the start of the project the students will be introduced to the topic of the project. In the following six workshop units – to be held alternately in Austria and Slovenia – material for a big exhibition at the end of the project will be developed in cooperation with artists. Life-size photographs (photoscans) of the students and the migrants dealing with the topic “to be in the skin of some other person” will be presented. The process of the project will be documented by videoclips and an accompanying photobook with selected texts from students. The exchange platform for both schools will be e-Twinning and One Drive Platform (Office 365) for the coordinators. The project will also be documented via the homepages of the schools and via Social Media. The project offers the students: -creative work processes with artists -lessons on image processing, film cutting, webpage-design, games programming -by way of contact with each other: strengthening of empathy, responsibility, team-competence, self-confidence, communication skills, empowerment The worked-out material (film, photos, booklet for exhibition) can be used for marketing purposes (open day, parents’ evening, visits to other partner schools and cooperating partners) at each of the schools. The cooperating partners in the city councils and county governments will be invited to support the exhibition. The schools intend to stay in contact with the organisations we cooperate with and the artists taking part in the project for follow-up projects. The intensive cooperation of all project partners is expected to improve the respective school climate as well the exchange between the students in a sustainable way. By way of analysis of the topic of migration in Europe, but also the involvement of asylum seekers in European projects like this one we start a sustainable integration process and foster a deeper understanding of the adolescents for each other. The work on cultural and national differences and characteristics enables to develop openness and tolerance for the other. The creative means that will be used in the project will diminish fear of contact and strengthen the European idea with the adolescents.

Two secondary colleges from Austria and France are involved in the project, the WIMO Klagenfurt/Austria and the Lycée F. SARCEY in Dourdan/France. In individual mobilities lasting for one or two months the participants from each school will deal with the project themes. The eTwinning platform will be used throughout the preparation phase and the implementation of the project.Ten students from each school will participate in this project and in an individual exchange per school year. Two project coordinators at each institution will be responsible for the implementation and the dissemination of the project. The WIMO secondary college in Klagenfurt/Austria will contribute their expertise concerning digitalization, the French partner school Lycée SARCEY will focus on the topics environment and sustainability. The participants from both countries will create videoclips related to various topics including consumerism, fast fashion and slowfood. These video clips will be presented to parents, teachers, students and regional school authorities in both countries. At the same time the best clips will be chosen and the winners will be awarded with prices. Furthermore, the projects participant will also illustrate their research work and personal experiences in individual e-books. Project activities and results will also continuously be published on the school homepages and school accounts on social media like Facebook and Instagram.Dealing with the project theme sustainability both at school and during the mobilities, will also improve the language competence of the students. The use of digital technologies will certainly boost the learners’ motivation, too. At the same time the students involved will learn about economic and touristic facts and they will get to know various aspects of the Austrian and French culture and traditions. This will foster mutual understanding and tolerance. The long-term effect of this project lies in the participants’ discussion and awareness concerning the importance of sustainability, from fair trade and recycling to slow food and trash fashion. Students will be able to grasp the impact and consequences of their personal daily activities. This will result in environmentally conscious thinking and eco-minded behaviour. Due to better language skills and a broadened cultural horizon the participants will have increased chances on the international job market in the long run. The teachers involved in the project and the project meetings will profit from sharing best practice examples as well as the use of digital media thus promoting a better quality of education.
