Rural areas in particular in remote locations still face diverse economic and demographic challenges. Ageing and migration are serious concerns leading to deterioration in the operational environment of the business community. Labour shortages (quantitative and qualitative) may deter investment. New local-based businesses, promoted by young adult unemployed, preferably women, who take advantage of the heritage of ancestral and traditional activities, adding marketing innovation and the use of new technologies could be potential solutions in some cases for the problem of a shortage of appropriate local job opportunities. As such, INSIDE-T is looking to promote intergenerational learning and the development of professional skills in young adult and women unemployed, to social sustainability in tourism in low density territories (rural areas). Aligned with this, INSIDE-T wants to make a breach into the negative social and economic beliefs on the future of low density territories.Project’s specific objectives are:1.Promote a blended training package, addressing challenges young adult unemployed face in transforming their situation in small sustainable business models, towards social sustainability in low density territories;2. Create interactive tools, reconnecting and engaging generations through the connection of young adults unemployed to seniors in low density territories in Europe;3. Provide unemployed people with an intergenerational interactive learning platform containing all training material;4. Deliver guidelines for the use of Inside-T pack for VET providers. The project is composed by interlinked activities resulting in the production of a pack with resources and methodologies adapted to the targets to be used by VET providers, social animators and tourism organisations, proposing a new multilevel and engaged learning process, mediated by real testimonies and life stories and narratives of those who made it possible (Multimedia Best Practices), who have successful companies in low density territories.INSIDE-T promotes the use of life cycle metrology, which implies a sequence of activities for planning, executing and dissemination the project results. During the project lifetime, the following intellectual outputs will be developed:O1- INSIDE-T CurriculumO2- Multimedia Best PracticesO3- INSIDE T Course and learning manualO4- INSIDE-T e-Tools (self-assessment tool, collaborative resource network and a creative lab)O5- Inside-T e-learning paltaformO6- Guidelines for VET providersFinally, the project is intended for VET providers and trainers, animators, and social educators that will embrace a final target facing the greatest difficulties in finding employment, with priority being given to young adult people, mainly women, graduates or not, with or without training, but without employment, women job seekers, job seekers from urban areas that want to try news life experiences in rural areas and job seekers in rural areas. The potential stakeholders of the project will be Vocational Training Centers, Schools, Universities, Companies, Community Centers, Social and collective Associations, Professional Associations, Tourist Routes, Tourism Schools, Local Development Associations, Regional and local authorities and Local Creative Industries. All these players will be involved in the project activities and events, not only by testing the intellectual outputs, but also acting as multiplier agents during the lifetime of the project.By achieving its aim, the INSIDE-T project will be a huge step towards a more ambitious of fostering entrepreneurial mindset, innovation and business creation, by acting on improving the economic situation of unemployed. Creating their own job opportunities, based on traditional occupations/crafts at risk of disappearing, cultural heritages, authentic rural activities through intergenerational learning, these targets will assure a more positive individual situation as such a more sustainable rural areas.

Europe is becoming more and more popular tourist destination, commanding a market share of the world tourism industry bigger than 40%. Along with this positive economic impact, however, tourism puts a significant strain on European natural environments and socio-cultural authenticity. Many initiatives have arisen in the EU to raise public awareness of sustainability and to ensure sustainable management of tourist destinations, businesses and products. Numerous Europe-wide reports, however, prove that the workforce employed in the sector still lacks the right, green skill set for implementing principles of sustainable development.Micro and small enterprises (MSEs) dominate the tourism sector in Europe, which often have lack of resources to invest either in sustainable practices or in workforce skills development. At the same time, many sustainable tourism practices have already proven their economic viability to micro and small enterprises. Moreover, affordability and cost efficiency of such practices increase significantly, if MSEs create clusters and combine efforts to implement them. The Sustain-T project, therefore, aims to enhance the sustainability performance of EU micro and small enterprises in the tourism sector by raising their managers’ awareness of sustainable tourism practices and improving their networking and collaboration skills for establishing new green alliances and implementing joint sustainability initiatives.Project’s specific objectives have been:1. To develop an on-line training package, addressing challenges tourism MSEs face in transforming their business model towards sustainability 2. To create interactive tools, facilitating collaboration of tourism MSEs in developing joint sustainability initiatives 3. To provide tourism MSEs with an open educational resource - an interactive learning platform containing all Sustain-T training material 4. To deliver guidelines for MSEs and for VET providers on using the developed materials and resources in their practiceThe project has utilised life-cycle methodology, which has implied a sequence of activities for planning, executing and disseminating the project results. During the project lifetime, the following intellectual outputs were developed: 1. Sustain-T curriculum, based on a genuine research into challenges tourism MSEs face in improving sustainability performance of their firms 2. Sustain-T learning content, structured around the four main themes of GSTC criteria 3. Interactive Self-audit, Resource-mapping & Ideation tools, allowing for: reflection on the current state of sustainability of a tourism enterprise; analysis of available resources for sustainability improvement; and collective idea generation for developing and undertaking joint sustainable tourism initiatives 4. E-learning platform – a virtual learning environment, containing all Sustain-T training materials and e-tools The project targeted at owners and managers of EU tourism micro and small enterprises, at VET providers, trainers and learners interested in sustainable tourism issues. More than 1500 representatives of the project target groups and stakeholders were directly involved in project activities and events (such as Curriculum validation workshops, Training launch seminars, National promotional conferences and others). Close relationship with the project stakeholders – “multiplier agents” (tourism administration and management bodies, tourism associations, professional associations and networks, etc.) was established and supported throughout the lifetime of the project and at least for five years after project completion. For this time, the consortium plans that Sustain-T training and e-tools will reach out to and used by more than 25000 tourism enterprises and tourism education and training institutions in the partners’ countries. By achieving its aim, the Sustain-T project will be a first step towards a more ambitious objective of providing a comprehensive tool for learning about sustainability and tourism in Europe. Promoting sustainability initiatives of EU tourism enterprises will move Europe closer to its ultimate goal: making our continent a home of sustainable destinations.

The Silver Economy can be defined as the economic opportunities arising from the public and consumer expenditure related to population ageing and the specific needs of the population over 50. On average older people spend 18-20 years in retirement, therefore needing new life contents, new cognitive and emotional challenges, up-to-date information as to actively participate in this Silver Economy, in order to remain included in Society. Silver Tourism will also help balance the seasonality effect in Europe, since most of the older people are no longer on the labour market, having opportunity to enjoy their leisure time on medium and low season.According to the Tourism Trends and Ageing the share of different age groups in tourism of EU residents and in the EU population aged 15 years or over, tourists aged 65 or over accounted for nearly 1 in 4 tourism nights for private purposes spent, when compared with the share of EU residents aged 15 or over. The data obtained was equal to this age group’s share in the population aged 15+ (24 %). However, when looking at the broader group of tourists aged 55 or over, the gap increased by 2 % as people aged 55+ accounted for 41 % of tourism nights for private purposes while their share in the population aged 15+ was 39 % (Eurostat, 2018).The aim of the eSilver Tour is to develop Digital Marketing competences in seniors organisations staff and tourism professionals to answer the real tourism needs of senior people, by addressing the psychosocial and physical needs of older travellers and their expectations, as to identify and overcome the well embedded stereotypes about older people as being passive, less ambitious, less interested, less knowledgeable, less vital, and in need of rest. This VET course must develop the technological know-how to answer the increasing use of the Internet as a way not only communicate but, essentially, to negotiate on the tourism market. The partnership brings together 6 organisations from France, Portugal, Spain, Lithuania and Greece. They were chosen based on their expertise facing the main objectives defined for the eSilver Tour and taking into account the specific know-how and experience required, as Silver Tourism, Digital Marketing, Active Ageing, and by the desirable interaction between inclusive and adapted ICTs (e-Seniors/FR), vocational training (AidLearn/PT), VET evaluation and assessment (EOLAS/ES), seniors organisations (50+Hellas/EL), tourism organisations (CTP/PT) and experience in assisting and supporting learning innovative product development (Kaunas STP/LT).Transversely, Project Management (PM) is lead by e-Seniors . Under PM there will be a set of Dissemination Activities (led by Kaunas STP) and Project Evaluation & Quality Assurance (led by EOLAS).The eSilver Tour project is structured in 3 IOs:O1: Professional Profile of the eSilver Tourism Expert: analysis of Silver Tourism, Tourism Digital Marketing and the competencies for Active Ageing. Led by e-Seniors.O2: eSilver Tour B-Learning Content: developing a learning package and contents for eSilver Tour innovative blended course in Digital Marketing for Silver Tourism and Active Ageing through meeting the needs of seniors organizations staff and tourism professionals, thus expecting to be meaningful from a pedagogical point of view. Led by 50+ Hellas.O3: eSilver Tour Platform/Website: creating a high quality learning tool, user-friendly and visually attractive, incorporating the B-Learning Content into the platform; performing pilot actions with senior organisations’ staff and tourism professionals for validation purposes; doing the improvements resulting of validation moments; generalisation andmultiplication of eSilver Tour products through speeding out information on the project and its results for the target-audience and other interested stakeholders. Led by AidLearn. The methodology used in eSilver Tour implementation is TeamWork (all partners are involved in all activities and IOs according to their expertise), so teambuilding is crucial from the start. The involvement of the target group is important in all dissemination activities, and involvement of seniors and tourism organisations in assessing the results when they are finalised is essential to guarantee the adequacy to target group. The eSilver Tour combines, in an innovative way, the continuous vocational training (C-VET) of the organisations staff and tourism professionals to develop competencies of Digital Marketing specifically for Silver Tourism market, resulting in the increase in seniors participation in tourism activities by promoting more affordable products, while contributing to the creation/maintenance of employment in the tourism sector on medium and low season by fostering more affordable tourism offers for the senior population.
