The objective of the NEXTLEAP project is to build the fundamental interdisciplinary internet science necessary to create decentralized, secure, and rights-preserving protocols for the next generation of collective awareness platforms. The long-term goal of NEXTLEAP is to have Europe take the “next leap ahead” of the rest of the world by solving the fundamental challenge of determining how both to scientifically build and how to help citizens and institutions adopt open-source decentralized and privacy-preserving digital social platforms in contrast to proprietary centralized cloud-based services and pervasive surveillance that function at the expense of rights and technological sovereignty.

PULSE-ART will produce compelling evidence illustrating the positive impact of arts in education for the enhancement of cultural expression and awareness (CAE). At the heart of this initiative lies the concept of integrating art, culture, and heritage institutions, including museums, galleries, cultural centres and overall CCIs, into the educational framework. This integration aims to effectively address the deficiencies of the educational system, hindering the improvement of CAE through the arts. Reference materials will be created and integrated into the Arts in Education for Cultural Awareness Observatory, including a Competency Framework, a Professional Development Programme and a self-reflection tool, which will be validated and tested through 7 case studies in 7 countries using different art techniques with a lifelong learning perspective. Collaborative Hubs between educational institutions, spanning all levels of education, and art and cultural heritage organisations will be created to bridge the identified gaps through innovative and tailored methodologies of arts in education, leveraging the expertise and fostering partnerships. PULSE-ART will guarantee the inclusion of all Children & Young people, with the overarching objective of fostering democracy and civic engagement throughout Europe. Multi-stakeholder engagement at different levels (European, national and local), capacity building, co-creation and mutual learning are key elements of PULSE-ART. The consolidation of local partnerships through the case studies will allow accounting for different educational systems and local contexts, embedding intercultural, inclusivity and gender aspects in the research, while the use of a variety of art techniques in different contexts will enrich the validation of the produced methodologies, products and research outcomes. National action plans and a European policy brief will inform policies to support the inclusion of arts in education to increase CAE.

"<< Background >>The project 'SURVIVING DIGITAL' aims to take care of adults and their children in disadvantaged areas, who are particularly confronted with the problems of overexposure to screens. These problems generate disorders in the physical and psychological development of young children. The disorders are first and foremost manifested with an intensity that is all the more intense in families already affected by a difficult socio-economic situation. The isolation and precariousness that affect many parents in urban areas, especially mothers, have repercussions on the physical and psychological health of young children (attentional problems, addiction to screens, autistic symptoms) as screens and connected objects invade the home. For several years, IRI researchers have been presenting the theoretical knowledge that currently exists on the use of screens. They demonstrate their aspect - at least useless at worst harmful - for children under 3 years old. At this stage of their development, children build themselves by using all their senses to apprehend the world. The hypertrophy of two of the senses - sight and hearing -, the apprehension of the environment in two dimensions and not in three, the lack of human relationship, can cause disorders. Some children today suffer from disorders classified as ""autistic disorders"" in connection with overexposure to screens. However, during an experiment, parents expressed their motivations. Some underestimated the importance of the link, thinking that they were ""better"" parents by making their children listen to songs on Youtube rather than by singing the nursery rhymes of their childhood themselves, because they sing ""less well"". Beyond that, all the participants also noted the use of screens as a ""baby-sitter"" allowing parents to find time for themselves, to escape the face-to-face, too often solitary, with the child. At the time of the digital transition, our territories are facing public health issues that health care professionals are often powerless to address. Local authorities must take up this challenge, especially in disadvantaged areas. The City of Saint Denis has taken this step with the Institute of Research and Innovation of the Georges Pompidou Center. They have created an experimental device that proposes to parents, professionals of care and early childhood, and researchers, to design and implement new therapeutic practices to deal with the harmfulness of overexposure to screens. It is based on the production and sharing of knowledge, the empowerment of parents and professionals, the placing of parents as actors in their own learning (creation of works of art, sharing of experiences, collective search for remedies, etc.) and the practice of collective activities (cooking, gardening, games with children, conferences, discussion groups, etc.).Today, the City of Saint Denis would like to enrich and extend this experience and make it evolve through the exchange of know-how with other European organizations that have set up different prevention and care systems, and to test with its partners new ways of valuing the contribution of the inhabitants in these projects. The City of St Denis and the IRI have mobilized the LABA, with whom they have already worked. The LABA has developed projects of valorisation of the so-called 'subaltern' knowledge in peripheral cities of Bordeaux (Bègles, Cenon): methods of valorisation of mother tongues and valorisation of the knowledge of the ROMS. In order to reach their objectives, they have identified partners with complementary skills in Greece, Spain, Ireland and Denmark: prevention, care and research organizations, specialists in digital technology and adult training.<< Objectives >>SURVIVING DIGITAL is dedicated to the creation of new tools to train adults in the fight against the harmfulness of screens in their daily lives. Its objective is to strengthen the digital transformation through the development of digital awareness, resilience and capacity. This project is implemented by the City of Saint Denis (115,000 inhabitants), one of the flagship cities of Seine Saint Denis, the poorest and youngest department in France, which brings together more than 150 nationalities. The city wishes to develop a European dynamic in the educational and cultural field, in particular, because it has just announced its candidacy for the European Capital of Culture 2028 program. Valuing the knowledge of its inhabitants and particularly the so-called ""subordinate"" knowledge is one of the axes of this candidacy: linguistic, culinary, professional knowledge...This project participates in the valorisation of this knowledge & of the inhabitants, because it shows how their contribution is necessary for the transformation of European cities. The challenges of these cities are multiple: ecological, health, social, economic, democratic...SURVIVING DIGITAL is a European project aiming to develop the skills of adults and those who accompany them: health professionals, early childhood, education, culture, citizen participation...It brings together a complementary partnership working in the following areas: -City of Saint Denis (93), which mobilizes its agents from the Maternal and Child Protection Centers, the Mental Health Prevention Service and the Public Health Service, the Neighborhood Houses, the Women's House & the association 'la Trame-IRI, created in 2006 within the Centre Pompidou, to anticipate, accompany and analyze the changes in cultural, scientific and economic activities brought about by digital technologies-Ciber Volontarios Foundation (Madrid), an international NGO, promotes the use and knowledge of technology as a means to bridge social gaps, generate social innovation and empower citizens. This Foundation trains up to 63,000 people per year. -IASIS (Athens) is an organization active in mental health research and care. IASIS works towards vulnerable social groups and with its team composed of psychologists, social workers, nurses, adult educators...-MMS is an organization specialized in the design of digital tools for adult education and acts in Ireland with vulnerable and weakened people on issues related to the support of initiative and entrepreneurship.-EUEI is a partner specialized in the design of immersive digital tools and will work alongside momentum to develop ""SURVIVING DIGITAL"" digital communities on platforms such as DISCORD, TWITCH.-LABA (Bordeaux) is an organization that works towards the inclusion of refugees and people in difficulty through the identification and recognition of their cultural skills (mother tongues, music, cooking skills...) & supporting the sharing of these skills with other adults for training purposes. The effects of SURVIVING DIGITAL impact -Educators, mediators, health care workers who work with the most vulnerable people-Workers in social enterprises (public or private) who develop innovative projects in the field of citizen participation -Inhabitants of the territories (and especially the most fragile), whose know-how is recognized, which they can in turn transmit by becoming ambassadors to their peers-Adult education actors who develop new tools adapted to the needs of our territories, in order to support their digital transition-Local authorities who develop projects that allow them to respond to the challenges of the digital transition<< Implementation >>Our project associates partners experienced in the conduct of European projects (LABA, CIBERVOLONTARIOS, MOMENTUM, IASIS, EUEI) and others who are less so (IRI) or not (City of Saint Denis). The most experienced partners will support the others and propose rigorous implementation of our activities (production of results, training activities, dissemination events, management, evaluation and communication)SURVIVING DIGITAL has been designed to produce a series of actions that yield positive results in terms of developing the skills of professionals active in the integration of the most fragile publics. To do this, we will produce 1) 4 RESULTSR1: Guide to innovative practices in the prevention and fight against the harmful effects of screen addiction. This study identifies innovative practices in terms of participation of the inhabitants in prevention projects and promotion of digital with the inhabitants/ This study gathers documentary resources, in transmedia format (interactive resources) and proposes to educators, social workers, mediators, to understand how the participation of adults in the most fragile urban areas is a lever of resilience, of digital inclusion 20 cases collected throughout Europe, 10 interviews and 10 portraits are presented.R2: Methodological guides SURVIVING DIGITAL. From R1 and the experiences in France, Spain and Greece, the partners create two guides: - The first one presents the methodology of the ""contributory workshops"", in the form of practical sheets and resource documents allowing to understand the process of empowerment of adults in the use of digital tools. - The second one proposes tools to value these contributions: how to reward this participation of adults, to value it and to recognize the role of some adults as ambassadors to their peers.R3: Training courses leading to certification SURVIVING DIGITAL: formalization of 2 innovative courses that are not offered by the professional training system on contributory workshops, empowerment of inhabitants and the valorisation of their know-how in the service of the digital transition R4: Immersive training toolbox, online: providing a compendium of inclusive educational tools online within a multilingual and interactive platform and creation of community spaces 'SURVIVING DIGITAL on the platform Discord and / or Twitch2) 5 TRANSNATIONAL MEETINGS. They punctuate each stage (launch/implementation of activities/closing). They coordinate the project at the European level by ensuring the smooth running of the actions on and between the partner countries. The partners create a management manual and share the project management tools 3) 2 TRAINING ACTIVITIES aimed at testing, criticizing and improving the results produced. These activities bring together more than 60 adult educators and trainers, half of whom are 'ambassadors 4) 5 dissemination events in 4 European countries (Greece, France, Spain, Ireland)5) A solid communication and dissemination strategy both internally and externally. The partners rely on their national networks and on the European networks of local authorities (EUKN, Eurocities, AFCRRE) or sectoral networks (ENCC, Encatc, IETM, Transeurophalles, on the move, ECBN...) of which LABA is a member. The valorization of the project within the framework of the Campaign "" Saint Denis, European Capital of Culture 2028 "".6) A method of quantitative and qualitative in itinere evaluation, in order to be able to correct our actions according to the events or difficulties encountered.<< Results >>In 30 months, it will achieve the following results-Raising awareness of the dangers of misuse of digital tools and the benefits of their proper use: digital toolbox, and illustrations of the project and sharing of our results on a European scale, in various sectoral networks: research, local authorities, health sector, vocational training, education and early childhood, culture. -Valorization of the project, the partners, the participants and the Erasmus program within the framework of the application of Saint Denis, European Capital of Culture-Creation of new models of valorization and remuneration of citizens' participation in educational projects in urban areas-Revealing the human wealth of the inhabitants in the service of public health policies in urban areasFor its implementation, the project mobilizes more than 400 people in the metropolises during the whole duration of the project: Saint Denis, Athens, Bordeaux, Madrid, and in rural areas in County Leitrim (Ireland)EFFECTS: -60 private and public organizations active in public health will participate in R1-20 public and private organizations will become the first generation of 'SURVIVING DIGITAL' educators and ambassadorsMore than 200 environmental leaders and stakeholders will use the Results and commit to supporting adult education in these trainings-400 public or social organizations will download the educational resources and use them to expand and specialize their approach through cooperation with health stakeholders-250 potential health entrepreneurs will use the tools and engage on these prevention issues.IMPACTS:-Hundreds of people, especially adults and trainers of adults will participate in the development of the contributory workshops, receiving training adapted to their needs. -1200 professionals in the field of digital mediation and image education, both public and private, will improve their ability to participate in actions of inclusion and training of inhabitants and adults in precarious situations. In the long term, this will contribute to the cooperation of the public and private health sector with public and economic actors.-1200 public actors who wish to associate digital development and urban revitalization and recognize that social and economic inclusion require multisectoral cooperation. This result is multiplied by the dynamics of the Saint Denis European Capital of Culture candidacy. These public health issues call for strong cross-sectoral partnerships to propose concrete & adapted responses to the addiction phenomena observed in young children. The project will reinforce the implementation of transversal public policies in the digital inclusion of the most vulnerable. The commitment of a public authority to coordinate such an experimental project is quite pioneering & will multiply the impacts. This project is bound to be disseminated because it transforms in depth the public policies on digital issues, going beyond the injunction to transition to a support of people undergoing full force of this transition at forced march. It is a prototype of public policy in the field of adult and early childhood education. It responds to a strong need of the citizens of the peripheral territories overexposed to screens & little aware of the risks related to this overexposure. It goes beyond the logic of prevention to move towards a contributory policy for early childhood and parenthood on the digital issue, which can only start from the existing uses of people and the enhancement of their knowledge. Our project brings concrete, experienced and tangible proposals to the adult education sector"

The overarching objective of the ReaLsMs is to develop and implement a perspective on the Smart City through critical humanities research and innovation in the context of the Digital Studies. The joint research fields of ReaLsMs will be the development of historical and philosophical underpinnings of the Data City and the implementation of the Smart City within local governance structures, including Dublin City Council and Plaine Commune (Paris North). Consisting of a network of three academic partners in the EU, Technological University of Dublin - School of Creative Arts, Computer Science and Architecture, (TU Dublin, IE), the Institut de Recherche et d’Innovation (IRI) at the Centre Pompidou (FR) and Durham University, the Centre for Humanities Innovation (DU, UK). The 2 non-academic partners located in the EU are Dublin City Council (DCC, IE) and Plaine Commune (FR). The Third Country academic partners is the Universidad de las Artes in Ecuador (UARTES, Ecuador). The purpose of developing this consortium as a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Research and Innovation Staff Exchange is to share knowledge across disciplines in order to develop a transdisciplinary model for “real smart city,” which is defined as a Smart City that is based on a critical humanities perspective, where citizens are the proper data brokers, engaging through public fora for debate and new technologies that enable citizen participation. Through an international and cross-sectoral network, the aim is to across sectors, allowing academic researchers to work with civic government and data collection while non-academic partners can benefit from the insights of academic partners to create new forms of education that illuminate the “black box” of Smart City technology. The expected outcome of research are a new transdisciplinary episteme of the Smart and Data City that is rooted in Digital Studies and subsequently informed methods for handling data collected through Smart City infrastructure.
