In the frame of the project we will finalise the development and the market placement of our new electric drive inside the wheel that will represent a technological break-through and will address mobility challenges in EU and global urban transportation. The GEM in-wheel product represents unique solution on the targeted market with integrated motor controller and electric motor inside the wheel. Using patent pending modular technology, the product significantly improves the state-of-the-art characteristics of in-wheel products on the global market by increasing efficiency (above 92%), torque (higher up to 25%) and lowering weight (up to 25% to competitive products). In addition the modular technology also allows a very easy adaption to various customer needs allowing to develop a cost-efficient complete product range. Main competitve advantages of our solution are: smart and simple design, low voltage, modular technology, regenerative braking, easy scalability, high reliability, excellent motor performance and excellent price/performance ratio. To achieve project goals a trans-disciplinary consortium with competent partners on their field is established. The project leader Gem motors as developer of the motor technology, joined forces with experienced partners that complement their roles: Domel as long-term and well established company in the field of electric motor production, Fraunhofer IAO as the first class research institute in the e-mobility field of production and business management, Luznar as small competent producer specialized in-wheel power electronics and City motion-Eccity as an emerging key producer of electric scooters in EU. Other third parties for motor parts production, research, structural analysis and five key customers are completing the network thus forming a complete and competent consortium to successfully accomplish the project’s objectives. Project topics are directly in-line with the Work Programme FTI.

REMHub project proposal will create a cutting-edge digital innovation hub propelling EU excellence for Rare Earth Elements (REEs ) and magnets. REMHub will develop test and pilot novel technologies for exploration and primary production of rare earths and recovering rare earths from side streams to enhance supply security of REEs in EU. In addition, Re-X (Recycle, Reuse, refurbishment and repurposing) technologies for rare earths and valuable metals from end-of-life products as well as electric machine design for easier permanent magnet recycling will be developed. The project will also identify and engage relevant stakeholders for developing REE value chain in EU. In addition, in the innovation hub will ensure that the novel technologies developed in the project will be commercialized and offered as services in a digital platform. The project will also have dynamic communication and dissemination with the aim to involve and engage the public to develop trust and awareness related to REEs as well as to build capacity in EU. The hub targets transformative material sourcing for REEs and REE magnets, including traceability, digital twinning, and digital passport. The project partners cover the entire REE value chain starting from mineral exploration, through mineral processing and refining to metal production and magnet making as well as recycling. The project incorporates safe and sustainable by design framework (SSbD) including design for Re-X (recycling, re-use, refurbishment, repurposing) approach integrating easy dismantling and circularity properties. REMHub will significantly improve the supply security of REEs in the EU and with the digital innovation hub considerably accelerate the development of technologies and services to faster and easier market entry.

The use of different and optimally combined transport modes in a seamless way is one of the key challenges to achieve greater sustainability in smart cities transport systems. Each mode of transport has its own advantages and satisfies different mobility purposes and needs. The core of new electrified microvehicle concept is to combine design and user needs for an easier usage within traditional transportation modes (e.g. public transport) in both urban and suburban areas. The project aims at finalizing and testing a safer and modular electric kick scooter (e-KS) for personal urban and suburban mobility. It presents 2 main innovation levels: on the vehicle side with the development of new features in term of modularity, foldability and improved safety; on the systemic side, the consortium will study and present (a) new business model(s) for a win-win situation for all stakeholders. The consortium relies on the extensive experience of consortium partners, on key learnings of on-going projects (e.g. H2020 STARS, CIVITAS Eccentric, IMOVE, STEVE, EU-LIVE), main partner core business (Bumpair for safety, Elaphe & Domel for in-wheel motor and motor controls) and on the inputs from an Advisory Group within the project that will involve representatives from mobility managers, local and city administrators and standardization and certification bodies. Once users’ needs have been identified and analysed, DREEM aims to test a 3-wheel electric kick scooter in three (3) different pilot cases. Dissemination of key mobility patterns and best practices will be part of the project. While starting with vehicle design and vehicle architecture, the proposal will also explore the feasibility of innovative business models and circular economy.
