CICONIA wants to define and assess CONOPS solutions with engagement from all concerned stakeholders: Airlines with their OCC, Network, Met providers and Air Traffic Control. CICONIA mitigation options will offer the best proposal for reduction in climate impacts, taking into account both, the CO2 and non-CO2 climate effects. A TRL4 is targeted at the end of the 3 years project. CICONIA is composed of the four main topics: 1. A weather service that will improve weather forecasting capabilities tailored for operational mitigation concepts, provide technical enablers definition and recommendation for long term improvement that will feed a better understanding of the stakes; 2. A climate enabler that will improve climate impact assessment and models tailored for operational mitigation concepts; 3. CONOPS strategies definition: CICONIA proposes to further analyse how operational stakeholders could integrate mitigations in their plan or in their tactical operations to mitigate climate impacts. A climate enhanced operations CONOPS will be delivered and assessed with representative fast time simulation platforms, integrating weather and climate models, enabling the evaluation of a large area and long time period. These simulations will support the assessment of the complete picture from climate, economics and operational impact points of view, conducting trades on different assumptions, understanding their impact on the decision making and finally providing guidance; 4. An ATM mitigation solution through trials: Investigate multiple ATM strategies for flights to minimise or avoid persistent warming contrails, through operational trials and data analysis. This solution will focus on reducing the climate impact of non-CO2 components, specifically by minimising crossings of persistent, highly warming contrails from aircraft in oceanic airspace. CICONIA aims as well at providing material to Authorities and Regulators, to analyse the appropriate rulemaking that could serve a fair and uniformed framework to minimise non-CO2 climate effects in a global environmental centric approach addressing as well CO2. Regulations aimed at mitigating non-CO2 effects through operational measures should be proven effective from a climate benefit standpoint, fair from an economic impact on the operator's standpoint, and operationally feasible/acceptable/manageable. An Advisory Board will federate external organisations who want to take part in the CICONIA results.

The Search & Rescue community is at a turn of its history. New satellite systems develops the MEOSAR constellation of Cospas-Sarsat system, EGNOS improves significantly the performance of localization introducing new capabilities and new operations impossible before, GALILEO unique differentiation with the RLS added to the performance of the system will contribute to save more lives at sea and on land. The key objectives of the HELIOS project are: 1 - Defining, developing Products (beacons and associated antennas) compatible with EGNSS & SAR services and latest end-users’ requirements. 2 - GALILEO EGNSS & SAR System validation. 3 - Certifications for commercialization. The HELIOS consortium composed of Orolia, Cobham aerospace communications, CNES, SIOEN, Air France, and Airbus, is involved in different relevant international working groups (Cospas-Sarsat, ICAO, EUROCAE), and will ensure that the development phase of the SGB will be in line with the compatibility and interoperability required by the Cospas-Sarsat. Gathering the knowledge of major players recognized in their industry worldwide, the HELIOS partners project will give the vehicle to the European Industry to lead the way for safer, more innovative systems responding to current and evolving market problems.

DIGITS was granted under H2020-SESAR-2015-2, SESAR.ID-VLD.Wave1-27-2015, and its continuation is dependent on the participation of Airspace Users (AU). * As required, DIGITS-AU brings together Airspace Users - who operate (even partially) in the airspace of ANSPs participating to DIGITS, namely DFS, ENAV, MUAC and NATS and - who will receive through this Call new onboard avionics capability which allows to downlink trajectory predictions, the so-called Extended Projected Profile (EPP), for sharing with Air Traffic Control. * This proposal addresses also the interface with other SESAR 2020 projects, by nature with PJ31 DIGITS, but also with PJs 01, 09, 10 and 18 in order to contribute to the identification of benefit potentials facilitated by this new airborne technology. The capture of real fuel burn reduction for DIGITS-AU flights is not possible due to the fact that ground ATC systems are used in an pre-operational or shadow mode, based on which air traffic controllers may not alter their instructions. Nevertheless "what-if" cases shall be identified as far as observations possibly allow and the theoretical fuel burn gain calculated.

Keeping the global temperature rise below 1.5°C implies a mandatory drop in CO2 emissions. Against this backdrop, the EC has issued the European Green Deal: an ambitious plan towards a fully sustainable economy, including aviation. With one million species endangered, biodiversity restoration is another key issue. Once aviation has recovered from the COVID pandemic effects, global air traffic as a major enabler of connectivity and economic growth will resume and keep increasing. This emphasizes the challenge of reducing the environmental impact of the air transportation sector as a whole. OLGA partners (airports, airline, handler, industry, research, SMEs) unite a wealth of expertise to contribute to solving this complex challenge: efficient and carbon neutral airport and airline operations, sustainable logistics, smart energy & mobility, intermodality for passengers and freight, emission/air quality assessments, green construction and circular end-of-life solutions. Sustainable Aviation Fuels supply chains will be integrated in conventional jet fuel infrastructure. Complementary types of low-emission mobilities, electric ground support equipment, hydrogen infrastructure and reduced carbon airside operations will be demonstrated. OLGA will achieve significant quantified advances already within the first three years, ready for exploitation by partners. This will lead to proven CO2 reduction, air quality improvement and biodiversity preservation with involvement of the entire sector's value chain. Sustainable impacts will be realised on societal, environmental and economic levels at local, national and EU scale. OLGA will have a duration of 60 months, requesting a 25 MEuros grant. OLGA's airports are uniquely positioned to showcase the environmental innovations, while the airports of Zagreb and Cluj will prove scalability and EU-wide applicability.

And because air travel is one of the fastest and most progressive branches of the transportation sector it is also exposed to large visibility and strong European and worldwide pressure on sustainability. ALBATROSS is a wide scale initiative of major European aviation stakeholder groups to demonstrate how the technical and operational R&D achievements of the past years can transform the current fuel intensive aviation to an environment-friendly industry sector. To reach this goal ALBATROSS follows a holistic approach by covering all flight phases, directly involving all relevant stakeholder groups (such as Airlines, ANSPs, Network Manager, Airports and Industries) and addressing both operational and technological aspects of aviation and Air Traffic Management (ATM). The project will demonstrate the complementary of some solutions, from alternative aircraft fuel to enhanced ATM and Airspace Users operations on the ground, TMA and en-route. To foster increased flexibility and scalability the demonstrated approaches will also leverage cutting-edge technologies, such modern as air-ground connectivity means, and novel highly collaborative ATM procedures. The possibilities of implementing a “Flight with Zero waste of Fuel and CO2 emissions” will be explored and extensively demonstrated in real conditions, through a series of live trials in various European operating environments. The demonstrations will span through a period of several months and will utilize over 1000 demonstration flights, which will be supported by Air France, Novair, Lufthansa, Wizz Air and Swiss on Airbus and Boeing aircraft, 2 Airports and major ANSPs. During this effort a strong pressure will be put on objective measurability and representativeness of the results, built on systematic data collection, utilizing Big Data Analytics, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
