The core platform (infrastructure and software layers) is conceptualized to be deployed and operated at Maritime Operation Centres (MOCs) with interfaces to other systems including the UxVs Ground Control Stations (GCSs), as well as external systems. It thus provides end-users with a holistic platform capable of handling several multipurpose tasks including, e.g., wide maritime border and coastal areas monitoring, analysis of potential threats, support to search and rescue operations, detection of illegal activities, among others. Such tasks will be possible since I-SEAMORE platform provides a complete set of functionalities and capabilities to mission commanders, focusing on 4 main pillars: 1) employment and indirect tasking of multiple types of long-endurance Unmanned Assets (aerial and water surface), 2) exploitation of heterogeneous data sources e.g. payload data and open data sources including Copernicus Services, 3) provision of a common operational picture empowered by a novel and comprehensive suite of data fusion services based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data Analysis, for optimal decision making and successful mission execution of the desired missions, and 4) interoperability within the Ecosystem and its interface with key existing external systems. Moreover, the project will also generate additional knowledge to support the uptake of the solution at EU level, as well as multi-country, multi-authority collaboration, including novel concepts of operation, standard operating procedures for joint operations, and new methodologies for co-creation and validation of maritime security solutions by end-users.

The classical, decentralized multi- Electronic Control Units (ECU) architecture has significant drawbacks when it comes to scalability, and it is becoming untenable. The dominant megatrend pushes for an increasing number of key functionalities to be software-defined, with the direct implication that the software content (lines-of-code) in a vehicle will grow by 10x in just 5 years, to 1 billion by 2030. From a hardware viewpoint, increased complexity and autonomy requires a more centralized approach to on-board computing to curtail cost, latency and bandwidth bottlenecks of the in-vehicle network. Centralizing the E/E architecture requires merging multiple Electronic Control Units (ECUs) into powerful, fully programmable Domain Control Units (DCUs) or Zonal Control Units (ZCUs). To address this paradigm shift, the Rigoletto project will establish the foundation for a next-generation Automotive Hardware Platform based on the open RISC-V instruction set architecture (ISA), bolstering and securing Europe's leading role in the automotive electronics industry. The project aligns with the high-level goal of EU Chips Joint Undertaking and the of the industry-led Vehicle of the Future initiative: namely, the creation of a RISC-V based automotive hardware platform strongly linked with the formation of an open, software-defined vehicle ecosystem led by European automotive manufacturers and suppliers. Rigoletto aims at developing RISC-V intellectual property (IP) components, including processor cores, accelerators, interconnects, memory hierarchy and peripheral subsystems. A wide range of performance profiles will be targeted for next-generation DCUs and ZCUs, to enable increasingly electrified, automated, and connected vehicles.

AI increases the value of the IoT through machine learning by transforming the data into useful information, while the IoT increases the value of AI through connectivity and data exchange. Therefore, InSecTT – Intelligent Secure Trustable Things, a pan-European effort with 52 key partners from 12 countries (EU and Turkey), will provide intelligent, secure and trustworthy systems for industrial applications to provide comprehensive cost-efficient solutions of intelligent, end-to-end secure, trustworthy connectivity and interoperability to bring the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence together. InSecTT aims at creating trust in AI-based intelligent systems and solutions as a major part of the AIoT, i.e. moving AI to the edge and making AI and ML based systems trustable, explainable and not just a black box. InSecTT will foster cooperation between big industrial players from various domains, a number of highly innovative SMEs distributed all over Europa and cutting-edge research organisations and university. The project features a big variety of industry-driven use cases embedded into various application domains, i.e. smart infrastructure, building, manufacturing, automotive, aeronautics, railway, urban public transport, maritime as well as health. The demonstration of InSecTT solutions in well-known real-world environments like trains, ports, airports and the health sector will generate huge impact on both high and broad level, going from citizens up to European stakeholders. It will establish the EU as a center of intelligent, secure and trustworthy systems for industrial applications enabled by a strong industry with a strong reputation and an informed society, in order to enable products and services based on AI compliant to European values and “Made in Europe".
