The objective of this research activity is to create a reliable computing node that will create a Cognitive Edge under industry standards. This computing node will be the building block of scalable Internet of Things (from Low Computing to High Computing Edge Nodes). The cognitive skill will be given by an internal and external architecture that allows to forecast its internal performance and the state of the surrounding world. Hence, this node will have the capability of learning how to improve its performance against the uncertainty of the environment. As a result of the integration of these cognitive systems into a fractal network, there will be another intrinsic crucial advantage, emergency and adaptability, new functions will flourish through the created space of possibilities of our cognitive Systems. This complex network will transfer all those cognitive advantages to the Edge, a computing paradigm that lay down between the physical world and the cloud.

Europe is poised to play a pivotal role in the technological revolution, particularly in the field of edge AI, which promises sustainable growth, performance, and reliability. The NeAIxt project is a strategic initiative designed to foster European independence and control over edge AI technology, benefiting both companies and citizens. The project presents a golden opportunity for European SMEs to grow, network, and enhance skills, leveraging exposure to the global market. Research labs and RTOs will bridge the gap to the future by developing necessary technologies and competencies, while universities will cultivate and disseminate advanced skills required for this technological evolution. NeAIxt aims to solidify Europe's position in edge AI and eNVM technology by enhancing AI enablers, evolving eNVM for edge applications, and demonstrating AI capabilities at both chip and system levels. The project is committed to ensuring the safety and security of AI services, adhering to EU regulations. Key technical developments include the advancement of 18nm FD-SOI and next-generation embedded Phase Change Memory (ePCM). These innovations will lead to high-performance, secure microcontrollers with AI capabilities, offering low power consumption and high security for smart applications. The project will integrate advances in non-volatile memory technologies with cutting-edge MCU design to enable efficient in-memory computing. This synergy will deliver a fully European solution for reliable, safe, and independent edge AI applications. NeAIxt will address the entire edge AI value chain, from academia to industry, and from design to end-user applications, building on Europe's strong technological foundation. The project's outcomes will alleviate societal concerns about AI proliferation by ensuring compliance with European privacy standards, fostering AI adoption in various sectors.

Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) is the natural evolution for both Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) because they are mutually beneficial. AI increases the value of the IoT through machine learning by transforming the data into useful information, while the IoT increases the value of AI through connectivity and data exchange. Therefore, InSecTT – Intelligent Secure Trustable Things, a pan-European effort with 52 key partners from 12 countries (EU and Turkey), will provide intelligent, secure and trustworthy systems for industrial applications to provide comprehensive cost-efficient solutions of intelligent, end-to-end secure, trustworthy connectivity and interoperability to bring the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence together. InSecTT aims at creating trust in AI-based intelligent systems and solutions as a major part of the AIoT, i.e. moving AI to the edge and making AI and ML based systems trustable, explainable and not just a black box. InSecTT will foster cooperation between big industrial players from various domains, a number of highly innovative SMEs distributed all over Europa and cutting-edge research organisations and university. The project features a big variety of industry-driven use cases embedded into various application domains, i.e. smart infrastructure, building, manufacturing, automotive, aeronautics, railway, urban public transport, maritime as well as health. The demonstration of InSecTT solutions in well-known real-world environments like trains, ports, airports and the health sector will generate huge impact on both high and broad level, going from citizens up to European stakeholders. It will establish the EU as a center of intelligent, secure and trustworthy systems for industrial applications enabled by a strong industry with a strong reputation and an informed society, in order to enable products and services based on AI compliant to European values and “Made in Europe".

H2TRAIN proposal is funded on the sixth edition of the Electronic Components and Systems (ECS) Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (ECS-SRIA) topics and major challenges for enabling digital technologies in holistic health-lifestyle supported by artificial intelligence (AI) networks. Biosensors for e-health and smart tracking of sport and fitness are a class of devices that is dominating the consumer and professional market with an unprecedented growth. Despite the impressive capabilities of recent approaches, several prospective revolutionary improvements are still open points, mainly in relationship with four factors: sensing new biosignals and tracking new activity patterns; improving battery lifetime and energy management for continuous use; and secure, reliable and efficient data analysis with AI algorithms and connectivity with the IoT. H2TRAIN aims at advancing the state of the art in this respect, taking profit from the remarkable properties and synergistic potential of one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) materials (1DM and 2DM), enabling more sensitive, efficient, and miniaturized biosensing capabilities within the established CMOS technology framework. This will contribute to the growth of e-health services assisted by AI and will fortify the development of Internet of Things (IoT) applications in health & wellbeing and digital society. H2TRAIN not only facilitates digital technology but also involves the development of new 1DM and 2DM-based devices for sensing, energy harvesting and supercapacitor storage. These innovations serve to integrate sport and health activities into IoT applications, making them accessible as wearable technology. H2TRAIN combines mature CMOS technology products for health and sport sensing with embedded intelligence as a cross-sectional technology. This combination offers a broad spectrum of technology demonstrators (TD) based on advanced sensors, such as tattoo sweat, C-reactive protein, cortisol and lactate.
