National and European political stakeholder have called upon the youth sector, in cooperation with the education sector and other relevant sectors and actors to make a joint effort and to take action for strengthening democratic civic education at member state and European level. But the Covid-19 pandemic has shown us very clearly that the erosion of the rule of law and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights has reached a level that not only calls into question the rule of law and systematically undermines human rights, but also puts the European project as such into question. Today, the shrinking space for civil society and youth work is a real and existing danger. Whereas youth sector itself and the wider public still show great difficulties to acknowledge the political dimension of youth work, experts from the European youth field call out for a qualitative leap in the direction of a more critical, democratic, emancipatory and empowering pedagogical youth work practice for young people to become ""change makers"" for a different Europe of social cohesion and the application of common fundamental values - to be seen as agents of social and societal change and citizenship. The partner consortium of the project ""UPdate - New approaches to civic education in youth work"" agrees that the time is more than ripe for daring to make a substantive breakthrough in (European) youth work and training for (European) youth work that puts democracy into the focus and into practice. The project aims to make a practice-relevant contribution to ""best practice"" in the context of European critical youth citizenship education and to enhance the quality of youth work through developing and implementing new and innovative approaches to civic education in in current initial and further training curricula for youth workers and youth leaders. The project reaches out to the following objectives:a) Advocating for the use of critical emancipatory pedagogy in youth work to promote critical youth citizenship b) Supporting the capacity building of youth workers and youth leaders with regard to critical youth citizenship educationc) Promoting innovation through developing and testing an integrated blended learning approach of critical youth citizenship education During this Strategic Partnership project, a Franco-German-Tunisian cross-sectoral partner consortium of experienced organisations from the field of will pool its ressources, skills and expertise in the domain of youth worker training and civic education. At first, the partner consortium will conduct an in-depth analysis (online survey and interviews with young people, youth workers, trainers) of civic education in the youth sector and existing civic education concepts in initial and further training curricula of youth workers and youth leaders in Germany, France and Tunisia. European studies, best practices of pilot projects and recent publications and initiatives by stakeholders from the European youth field e.g. Erasmus+ Youth in Action National Agencies, EU-CoE youth partnership, SALTO Training and Cooperation Centre will be taken into account for the analysis. The partner consortium will then develop an innovative blended learning training curriculum for trainers/educators of youth workers and youth leaders on critical youth citizenship education including four thematic modules which will be tested by 15 trainers/educators of youth work as well as 300 students/trainees of youth work and youth workers in existing initial and further training curricula of youth workers and youth leaders in Germany, France and Tunisia and result into an educational training guide. The project results and outputs will be disseminated in a multi-track approach at local, national and European level as well as in three multiplier events in Germany, France and Tunisia."

The rise in incidents of hate speech and hate crime, attacks on migrants and refugees, propaganda and violent xenophobia, as well as the rise in religious and political extremism and terrorist attacks have highlighted the urgent need of working with young people and preventing their radicalisation at an early stage. National and European political stakeholders (e.g. Paris Declaration of 17th March 2015) called upon the youth sector, in cooperation with the education sector and other relevant sectors and actors, to take action in addressing violent radicalisation in an integrated and cross-sectoral approach. The PRIDE project was born within a network of organisations engaged in international youth work and aimed at promoting international youth exchanges as a successful educational approach to prevent the radicalisation of young people. PRIDE also aimed at developing a wider scope of mobility projects for young people with fewer opportunities and thus increasing their active citizenship / democratic resilience. The project reached out for the following objectives:A) promoting democratic values and active citizenship of ALL young people to prevent radicalisation through intercultural dialogue and international youth exchangesB) supporting capacity building of youth workers, teachers, and trainers regarding the prevention of radicalisationC) enhancing the quality of international youth exchanges through developing and testing an innovative integrated approach (blended learning)During this Strategic Partnership project, a Franco-German-Tunisian cross-sectoral partner consortium of experienced organisations from the fields of international youth work and prevention of radicalisation has exchanged best practices and pooled resources, experiences and skills in the domain of mobility programmes for young people with fewer opportunities. At first, the consortium conducted national pre-studies assessing national evidence-based research and analysing national practices on how to best approach the issue of radicalisation. European studies, results of pilot projects and policy papers fed into the exchange of experiences. Based on this trinational analysis, the consortium designed a blended training curriculum for youth workers, teachers and trainers and equipped them with the relevant knowledge and competences to address radicalisation during the preparation, implementation and evaluation of international youth exchanges. Two short-term staff trainings as well as a complementary online learning module were developed and implemented with 19 youth workers, teachers and trainers. The results of the trinational analysis and the training have been compiled into the educational training guide ""civic education and prevention of radicalisation in international youth work"" (output 1). The educational guide as well as the trinational analysis were published in French, German and Arabic language and are available as .pdf documents on the project's website and the Erasmus+ project results plattform. In addition, an interactive learning tool (a Web application) which enables young people with fewer opportunities to get actively involved before, during and after international youth exchanges has been developed and tested in the framework of four international youth exchanges with 121 young people from Tunisia, France and Germany. The Web application ""MobiYouth.org"" (output 3) including explanatory videos as well as the online module of the blended learning training acitivity (output 2) are on the project's website www.erasmus-pride.org and the Erasmus+ project results plattform. All intellectual outputs developed during the project were disseminated through the multiplier events including the participation of all partner organisations.Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the multiplier events were organised as online conferences. An added value of the online event was that institutional guests from all three countries could be interviewed and broadcast during the events as well as all three experts for the prevention of radicalisation CAREP, ALIFS and ufuq.de. All videos were published online on the project website and are available for all interested persons. The sustainability of the dissemination of the project has been even stronger than it could have been in the framework of a face-to-face conference. At the end, the staff of the consortium has undergone an in-depth learning process of developing blended learning formats within international youth work long before the COVID-19 pandemic and is currently able to organise digital and hybrid formats of international youth work."

Over a period of 18 months, the partners first worked on an analysis of the changes underway in the tourism sector of the outdoor hotel industry. Two steering meetings and two study visits lasting 5 days each were organized, in France and in Croatia, to discuss current practices and developments. The exchanges during and during the project led to three major results: - identify a common list of changes currently under way in different countries and at European level in this sector - to evoke concepts allowing the development of the companies of the camping in the concern of a lengthening of the seasons - the recognition of a greater need for training through practical training in Europe, the latter with training and skills development needs in the sector. - Need for transnational training to meet the new needs and expectations of European customers Among the impacts, we note for all the partners the development of a supranational vision of the functioning in the sector of activity, according to the local data. The exchanges and activities revealed interesting practices that can lead to changes in practices at the national level for sector partners. The project has helped to develop a common vision concerning ongoing developments at European level and an exchange of fruitful practices, and a willingness to work on future cooperation with a view to setting up reciprocal trainees and / or joint training of employees. The project has helped to create a new network, to reflect together on a common issue at European level and to lay the foundations for future long-term cooperation.
