In Austria, a vast number of buildings are considered of great historic value. On one hand each building causes costs for maintenance, on other hand they need to be kept in shape to fulfil the requirements of modern life and commercial needs. Staff of bodies looking after such historic buildings does need specific skills in order to ensure that Austrian sites, historic buildings of the UK and Amalfi coast villas are available for future generations – and at the same time can be utilised for several purposes to cover costs. Nowadays you find offices, flats, museums, shops, cafés and restaurants and many other ways of utilising those buildings and above all we can learn about environmentally friendly building techniques. The aim of “MODI-FY” - Maintaining Historic Buildings and Objects through Developing and Up-grading Individual Skills of Project Managers: Fostering European Heritage and Culture for Years to come” is to provide professionals with the required certified skills and competences to help Responsible Bodies (RBs) in developing innovative VET; this includes -recognition of previous learning and already available skills -establishment of a European certificate issued by ECQA-train-the-trainer education for experts in maintenance management of historic buildings and sites. The Aims of MODI-FY are:* Recognition of prior learning (non-formally and informally acquired)* Development of specific (holistic = containing various aspects of management of historic buildings as described above) training for employees and volunteers of RBs, their suppliers and subcontractors to include the evaluation of innovative teaching techniques;* Creation of new job opportunities for young people and securing the jobs of current staff* Establishment of a European training and certification system, linking into ECVET and Skills Passport, which allows transferability of skills into other EU countries* European Standards for assessing the state of preservationObjectives:* Assessment of prior learning in partner and associate partner organisation* Specific and individual needs analysis of staff and volunteers concerned* Research/Adaption of appropriate tools for recognition of prior learning* Development of specific basic blended training modules for people working in the field* Development of blended train-the trainer training material and training modules* Testing and modifying training modules for people working in the field and trainers (pilot course modules in Budapest, Vienna, Bilzen and Ravello)* Conducting training modules (real course module in Manchester)* Certification of learners and trainersBeing able to have prior learning and available skills recognised is an important motivation factor for staff, while it also is a tool to select appropriate partners, suppliers and sub-contractors for building projects. Annual budgets for managing historic buildings are likely to be reduced in times of crisis and cost effectiveness becomes more and more an issue for responsible bodies. Therefore the project managers are also under pressure for providing high quality work outcomes. This is only possible when project managers are excellently trained and educated and this was the ultimate goal of “MODI-FY”.The need for innovative VET for the target groups were met by developing a model of certified education for maintenance management of historic buildings and sites. In a blended training approach old and new skills and competences were merged into a standard requirement for current and future employees of the partner organisations as well as their suppliers and subcontractors. The consortium of MODI-FY consists of 9 organisations from 7 EU countries:5 responsible bodies (RB)3 training institutions1 certification body During the project duration partners established and developed-7 country reports on educational offers in the field-clear standards and terminology for VET of professionals working in/with historic buildings-2 curricula for VET of project managers of historic buildings and 1 for train-the-trainer called “Heritage Asset Management”-4 pilot course modules of “Heritage Asset Management” for the target groups-a certification procedure and online exam platform-1 real-time course module for project managers of “Heritage Asset Management”The project results are made available to other organisations around Europe and the World after completion of the project. By offering a certified training, acknowledged by ECQA, linking it into ECVET and European Skills Passport, “MODI-FY” helps responsible bodies to guarantee the survival of European historic treasures and protected heritage.

The project seeks innovative tools and methodologies able to promote adaptive and systemic approaches to better manage CC. The GreenHeritage proposal aspires to function as an urgent reminder that climate change is present, affecting both directly and indirectly all aspects of Europe’s cultural heritage. It is also an urgent call to stir up collective action. The project will be implemented in 5 European countries (Belgium, Greece, Italy, Latvia and Spain) and it will produce the following key results:•A methodology for the management, preservation and protection of ICH in the face of CC based on a needs analysis in partner countries but also across EU.•An interactive map showing examples of the most endangered areas and regions in Europe where CC has started to impact negatively different types of ICH.•A blended learning program on ICH and CC consisting of 4 online modules and 4 transnational physical workshops, targeting cross-sectoral PhD candidates, researchers, and policymakers & practitioners.•A micro-credentials programme on ICH and CC consisting of 4 online modules targeting a broader audience.•5 policy roundtables and a final conference bringing together scientists, researchers, community leaders and policy makers.•5 policy briefs, and a handbook on the state of play of ICH and CC impact at EU and national levels including key project results and final recommendations for policy change.•A long-term action plan ensuring transferability of project results.Throughout the implementation at least 500 direct and indirect stakeholders at all levels will be informed on project results, at least 150 learners will have subscribed to the e-learning platform and at least 150 participants will have attended the final conference.

How the appropriation of European cultural Heritage could develop the European awareness and encourage the consolidation of European values? What role could play the University to reinforce among the Students a sense of belonging?A European Strategic Project was submitted to United Europe by Jean Monnet University (Saint-Etienne); in July 2016, the Project has been accepted. The inaugural session took place in Saint-Etienne (October 2016). ProPEACE is a Strategic Partnership involving 10 partners: -5 universities from France, Iceland, the Nederland, Romania and Spain-3 economic and cultural actors enhancing heritage in Europe (Italy, Romania, Scotland)-2 non-European universities with expertise in digital mediation (Canada) and interculturality (Israel). The team is an example of European diversity: partners from the North, the South, the East, the West of Europe, from the Atlantique to the Mediterranean Sea, involving Europeans out of Europe, from a linguistic diversity to a cultural mix. This project is also supported by political (e.g. Firminy, Saint-Etienne), economic (e.g. Italian local authorities) and cultural (e.g. Europa Nostra) institutions.ProPEACE seeks to place the academic field of heritage in a European perspective. In order to do this, it has to offer innovative solutions for a dynamic modernization of the European higher education about heritage. Over 3 years, ProPEACE proposed a program of activities to reconsider the European heritage and teaching in a European perspective. Every year, in April, May or June, Intense Programme (IP) gathered academics, students, economic or cultural actors. It was moment for new form of teaching avec activities (encyclopedia, lexicon, experience of virtual exhibition), workshop (about news jobs), lectures and visits. 3 places: Edinburgh (2017), Ravello (2018) and Santiago (2019). Some activities took place during Intensive Program in spring:- A virtual exhibition created by students helped by all partners- A moment of discussion about jobs in Europe (specificities to find a job in Europe) managed by Cluj and Sibiu.- A moment to discover a new methodology of Cultural research with Tel Aviv partner.Every year in December or January, Workshops -Wageningen (2017), Cluj (2018) and Reykjavik (2019)- has been organized for professors and cultural/economic partners in order to define the notion of European Cultural heritage, discover new methodology developing by each partner. It’s also a time to exchange points of view, to visit heritage sites, to meet actors, and to understand the challenge of each national heritages. The main Activities and Achievements realized with all partners:- Lexicon: project coordinated by Iceland with participation of students and all partners- Encyclopedia: project coordinated by Quebec with participation of students and all partners- MOOC: France has designed a MOOC to spread the results of the ProPeace project, integrating video, lectures, power point, articles- GUIDE-LIGNE to sensitize teachers, students and cultural mediators to the challenges of cultural EuropeA new Master: In-depth and collective thinking has been conducted to imagine a new way of thinking and teaching European cultural heritage. This resulted in the creation of new certificate: the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree: DYCLAM+, opening in September 2019A European Jean Monnet CHAIR: thanks to the dynamic created by this partnership, his coordinator presented a project for the creation of the Jean Monnet European Chair which was accepted by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency in 2018.

Yet, 25 years later, the balance could not be other than to recognize our planet stands in a more unstable and less sustainable position, despite all intentions. The Rio+20 Summit, when addressing poverty as the core issue of sustainability, called in fact for a revision of the original concept, going beyond the so-called TRB (triple bottom line, considering the environmental, social and economic dimensions). Yet, a new understanding needs to build from human understandings and cultural diversity is crucial, and a new specific framework of reference is required, to address the challenges of Rio+20 and to converge with other global initiatives, such as “Future Earth” and the proposed “International Year of Global Understanding”. The strategic partnership Apheleia aims at structuring a convergent set of tools that will foster the need for a properly Integrated (as opposed to dispersed) Cultural (i.e. human and diverse) Landscape Management (rooted in human understandings and leading towards governance through awareness and critical thinking) for Local and Global Sustainability (addressing the great global dilemmas, but also focused on individual anxieties and needs). Such a program implies a high degree of complexity to be dealt with by the academia, but also requires efficient operative tools, that render such complexity simple for non-academics and for daily lives. Apheleia (Ἀφέλεια), the spirit of simplicity in ancient Greece, stands as the leading and inspiring word for the current partnership, since rendering simple the complexity of things is an academic obligation and an urgent need to foster tangible down-the-line convergent actions. Moreover, the Apheleia project specifically aims at contributing for an European contribution towards the global challenges as they are beeing internationally designed. Europe has been the cradle for many of the best practices in terms of sustainability, including its address to science and society interaction, and it must now promote a new framework of reference, anticipated but not yet consolidated. An European contribution must, per definition, be open to other cultures, interests and perspectives, make the most of European diversity itself, and involve universities, the private sector, NGOs and local and regional public authorities, i.e., be based on a multi-stakeholders basis. At the same time, partnerships should be focused and leading to clear and tangible results.Main aims:1. To establish a solid consortium, involving academic and non-academic partners, focusing in education and best practices that for students’ applied training in transdisciplinary innovative approaches to integrated cultural landscape management. 2. To train a selection of EU students on the complex use of convergent multidisciplinary tools for cultural integrated landscape management, through theoretical teaching and collective applied training, as well as tailored made individual study and essay, all combined in a new Intensive Program on Integrated Cultural Landscape Management for Local and global sustainability, rooted both in academic knowledge and in regional authorities co-operation.3. To collect, analyze and synthetize the rich field experiences gathered by the partnership members on diverse case studies distributed worldwide in order to present practical testimonies, records and professional perspectives to the involved students.4. To involve basic disciplinary core required competences (archaeology, technology, economy, law, sociology, geography, history, urban planning, etc., permanently integrated through transversal competences on materiality, anthropology, communication, leadership and entrepreneurship.5. To produce a common lexicon + website and a series of reference publications on the topic, merging theoretical and applied knowledge.6. To pave the way for a new European Master on the topic, as a follow up of the partnership, alongside successful case studies of innovative policies. This is Apheleia (Ἀφέλεια).
