Fundación Épica La Fura dels Baus proposes, in collaboration with a wide scientific ecosystem, the European Performing Science Program (EPSP) that include the two editions of European Performing Science Night (EPSN) for 2024 and 2025 as well as the Next Generation Performing Science (NGPS) activities for schools. The EPSP 24-25 will be consolidated as an implemented program that brings researchers closer to the public - and vice versa - and makes their work more tangible and accessible among civil society. The programme uses an innovative approach based on art and culture as a common language and new narratives and communication tools for researchers, that is, i) training to equip researchers with skills to deal with scientific communication; ii) bring researchers and their disciplines to schools through co-creation sessions, debate and conversations focused on the researchers works, projects and disciplines by using technology and new language tools; iii) the realisation of artistic co-creation based on the work of researchers to show the diversity of science and its impact on the daily lives of citizens; and iv) a round table -performaforum- after the performance experience to promote open science and help stimulate interest in research careers.

In line with the objectives of “Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030” and the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, PartArt4OW aims to (1) strengthen the emotional attachment between society and the oceans and waters; (2) raise awareness of challenges these face; (3) develop a strong transdisciplinary and trans-European network of artistic and creative communities to protect and restore oceans and inland water; (3) support policymakers in working towards sustainable ocean and water policies. To this end, PartArt4OW focuses on participatory art and creative processes on the belief that participation can bring about a deeper engagement of people with the problem of ocean and water health by performing arts themselves. Building upon the belief that art and the creative sector can contribute to the EU Mission Starfish 2030 priorities, PartArt4Ocean mobilises artists, citizens and other stakeholders in realising 20 multi-stakeholder Participatory Art Initiatives (PAIs). All modes of artistic expression and synergies with EU-funded projects are welcome. Selected PAIs receive physical resources, human capital (training, experience, mentorship, relationships and feedback) and organisational capital (structure, planning, monitoring, and internal relationships) through a PartArt4OW Accelerator Program. To support PAIs, PartArt4OW also organises stakeholder engagement and ecosystem-building activities, including Ambassadors Network engaged in mutual learning exercise and the operationalization of ParArt Sailing Lab equipped with sustainable sailing and artistic production facilities on board to visit and connect creative communities engaged in PAIs. Matchmaking events and PartArt Festivals bootstrap the possibilities of artistic communities and creative sector stakeholders to significantly contribute to citizens' connection with the ocean and the waters.

The theatre company La Fura dels Baus (established in 1979) started a creative foundation Fundacion Epica to transfer -as informal training- the lessons learnt during the many decades of organising successful and engaging performances. Epica developed and tested creative interaction methodology and their physical venue in Badalona (Spain) will host the proposed European Performing Science Night. The European Performing Science Night (EPSN) puts forth a science- expanding methodology based on the combination of scientific excellence and performing arts as generators of faked realities and engagement. Through co-designed preparatory work leading to a Night of Performing Science, the event will bring researchers closer to the general public (and vice versa). It will increase awareness of what is research, its function in a democratic society, and its benefits for a diverse Europe. EPSN proposes a wide range of innovation activities, with a view to supporting the public recognition of researchers, their work, and the value it brings to society. EPSN will in itself be a scientific event, where research groups will deploy experiments with a broad spectrum of civil society and science both online and face to face. Audiences will perform, in artistic terms, as subjects themselves in experiments, taking part in both the tests during the event and expected results in the performaforum. EPSN will test and demonstrate new methodological approaches to bring researchers closer to the public through an innovative language based on the performing arts and new language tools for researchers, that is, 1 training to equip researchers with new tools to deal with scientific communication; 2 the realization of artistic co-creation based on the work of researchers to show the diversity of science and its impact on the daily lives of citizens, and 3 a round table -performaforum- after the performance experience to promote open science and help stimulate interest in research careers.

The SCENE project has been majorly designed to offer the means for a modern & globally competitive, European filmmaking industry, by building upon two solid pillars, i.e. semantically cognitive AI technologies and the (in) tangible European Cultural assets, always with respect to the European values & policies regarding the human and its environment. SCENE will develop a wide set of cutting-edge technologies & services that are able to cover the whole pipeline of the film-making industry, “from farm to fork”, i.e. from the very early stages of the film planning until their playback at the audience screen. Specifically, SCENE aims to innovate by enriching the existing data lakes with high-qualitative & editable 3D digital models of European cultural sites, and by enhancing their accessibility with the integration of multi-dimensional knowledge graphs carrying location- & cultural-aware information. SCENE will further facilitate the film-making & film-editing side during the production & the post-production phase with efficient simulation & novel assessment mechanisms. Similarly, it will enable a smart & privacy-preserving interaction channels between industrial stakeholders & the audience, that will allow not only for pro-active sensing of the audience’s preferences in the pre-production phase, but also for the early identification of the most matching advertisement & distribution channels during the distribution phase, as well as the insightful matching & recommendation between films & individuals. The integration of the aforementioned technologies under the unique SCENE platform demonstrates significant capacity to render an excellent proof-of-concept prototype to guide, inspire and mark significant breakthrough in the film making industry during the post COVID era, on scientific, commercial, business & policy level.
