The market for sustainable construction and renovation is potentially significant in Europe. It is part of the EU 2020 strategy (energy, climate), of national policies and in accordance with future national regulations. Despite this development potential, professionals are not familiar enough with the hemp material and its implementation to meet local market opportunities. A major problem is the lack of skills training. Moreover these techniques are new and they require the professionals to enroll in a continuing education process and to exchange at European level. Considering these observations, the partnership had four objectives focusing on four targets :- Professionalising the social and traditional construction businesses in order to acquire deep knowledge and skills on the characteristics and technical implementation of hemp through modular training qualifications linked to existing certifications recognised European mobility, experiments in connection with the labs research, appropriate training pedagogy ;- Professionalising people on integration pathways on hemp techniques (future workforce in the construction business) through qualifying courses and European mobility ;- To help architects, construction economists, consultants, control offices understand the properties of hemp as a building material and its use through awareness/training ;- Reassure in an objective manner, demonstrate that it is possible to build or renovate with hemp for public clients via awareness-raising / training and the publication of a guide highlighting exemplary communities new or rehabilitation projects in France, Spain, Italy and Belgium. Round the table to achieve these goals, 2 ""social structures"" recognised in the field of training and eco-construction - Etudes et Chantiers Bretagne - Pays de Loire in France and in Belgium Le Trusquin. A Belgian federation of stakeholders in the social economy - ACFI, a national association of bio-ecological architects in Italy - ANAB, the Baubiology Instituto Español in Spain implementing an Eco-Construction Master degree and Doctum, a Spanish Association, a stakeholder in built heritage renovation and training. During three years the partnership : - Developed a skills training module for building companies and train the trainers courses, and a skills training module for people on integration pathways by developing:* training tools with a pedagogy that suits the targets : activities, skills, training and learning outcome assessment frameworks that include current implementation techniques and the results of ongoing research* a prerequisite assessment tool* a pedagogical support presenting the hemp for building purposes* a train the trainers’ module and organised a training session- Organised European mobilities- Indexed hemp building products for architects and other prescribers to foster the use of hemp products- Created an educational booklet to raise potential public and private clients’ awareness- Organised events to disseminate the project results to the targets Thanks to the project :- Training centers have tools to implement training courses ;- Building companies can have skilled labour ;- Social structures have trainers and technical supervisors who are able to coordinate a team to serve local hemp building markets in partnership with building companies ;- People on integration pathways can gain competences and knowledge more easily thanks to an appropriate training pedagogy ;- Prescribers have confidence in hemp and its implementation ;- Public and private clients also have more confidence in this material ;- Public communities are more aware of the potential benefits of the development of the hemp sector for a territory."
