Worldwide, over 1 million people die each year in road accidents and millions more suffer from injuries. Mandatory Passive Safety Systems (PSS) e.g. in case of a crash, trigger passive safety functions such as airbags and seat belts to reduce the number of fatalities and heavy injuries. However, these PSS follow a ”few-sizes-fit-all” approach (optimized to an “average person” – 175cm, 78kg and male) and thus today, especially for women, children, elderly and people deviating from the average, this leads to significantly higher risks, e.g. any seatbelt-wearing female occupant is 73% more likely to suffer from serious injuries than seatbelt-wearing male occupants (Univ. Virginia). Our project combining R&D and market expertise of 2 industries (airbag and testing systems) and 1 SME partner (computer vision-based software) will disrupt the existing PSS market by introducing a novel highly PERSONALIZED PROTECTION. For the first time, touchless 3D imaging sensors are used to derive precise and real-time information about each occupant - body physique, position and pose, weight and sex - in order to control the PSS mechanisms tailored to each individual occupant. This optimizes the protective function while simultaneously also mitigating the risks of doing unnecessary harm which today also can occur. During this project we will develop our system up to TRL8, standardize & prepare its components for the market needs and implement quality assurance processes required by the automotive industry. Also, a first pilot project with a car manufacturer shall be conducted to allow a short time-to-market across the EU and worldwide on the long run. Our impact targets: saving more than 11.000 lives and preventing over 600.000 injuries between 2025 and 2035. Our innovation strategy: What the system will provide in nowadays cars will also be highly relevant when passengers will be able to move much more freely throughout the interior of a car – in the era of autonomous vehicles.

User acceptance, AI-based systems validation, continuous assessment, and virtualization are essential to extend the harmonized SAF and ensure safe CCAM introduction and operation. SUNRISE is developing an advanced SAF in collaboration with regulatory bodies, using a scenario-based approach enabled by the SYNERGIES project. CERTAIN will develop and embed additional components to extend the SAF for immediate implementation, ensuring stakeholder agreement. This will be achieved through four Use Cases covering all automation levels, vehicle types, and diverse road users. CERTAIN aims to create a comprehensive SAF addressing gaps in CCAM development and deployment, emphasizing safety, trust, acceptance, and comfort for all road users. The CERTAIN consortium, comprising leading European research institutions, industry partners, and stakeholders, will tackle critical challenges in CCAM system validation. Continuous engagement with stakeholders and regulatory entities will aim for the framework's acceptance and deployment. The project's outcomes will provide a solid foundation for widespread CCAM system adoption, fostering trust among users, industry stakeholders, and regulators.

ACCOMPLISH aims at increasing the readiness of enterprises of any size to face an era of unprecedented regulatory scrutiny by simplifying, integrating and automating compliance in their data/AI operations, their data/AI assets, their solutions and eventually their overall organisations. ACCOMPLISH will deliver a novel AI-based compliance and certification framework cross-cutting the regulatory/legal, environmental, cybersecurity and business/industry-specific compliance perspectives to modernise, automate and trace the compliance and certification processes with the help of open-source, well-defined and extensible compliance policy models while always ensuring a human-in-the-loop (HITL) approach explaining the compliance requirements and results, as well as proactively alerting about any potential risks/violations. Through the ACCOMPLISH Compliance Digital Passport, the previously “static” compliance and certification assessments will be transformed into up-to-date compliance proof that effectively promotes transparency and accountability for any interested stakeholder. ACCOMPLISH shall also deliver inherently-compliant data economy enablers for Data/AI operations, as reliable mechanisms to design, execute, and trace/observe the data and AI/ML pipelines, as well as to monitor/control their outputs (in terms of datasets, ML/DL models, analytics results). In order to demonstrate the actual innovation and added value that can be derived through the ACCOMPLISH advancements, the ACCOMPLISH results will be validated: I. Through their actual application to address real-life problems in four representative industries that are characterised by a varying maturity level of data/AI operations and compliance: (a) Energy, (b) Automotive, (c) Robotics & Manufacturing, and (d) Aviation; II. Through their integration in different digital solutions, either open source or commercial, to showcase their application within the established data spaces and/or AI market landscape.

MOSAIC addresses a grand challenge for European competitiveness: technological independence and filled fabs in the landscape of automated systems. By fostering innovation in Electronic Components and Systems (ECS), MOSAIC aims to propel Europe to excellence and digital autonomy, directly linked to the EU Chips Act. The project achieves this through a comprehensive strategy. It will develop next-generation ECS offering superior, cognitive system intelligence, enabling energy efficiency and robustness. These results will be tailored to the demands of automated systems, enabling rapid data processing and intuitive, AI-enabled decision- making. MOSAIC tackles the challenge of integrating diverse perception hardware configurations, ensuring that automated systems can perceive their surroundings in a non-invasive manner, avoiding a single point of failure, with unparalleled accuracy and decreased complexity. Additionally, the project emphasizes standardized communication protocols and interoperability, fostering a collaborative ecosystem across several industries, namely automotive, aerospace, maritime, industrial automation and infrastructures. By spearheading such advancements, MOSAIC empowers European ECS manufacturers to gain a competitive advantage. The project's achievements will be demonstrated in 31 cutting-edge technical showcases, indicatively global perception through 360° distributed radar, AI-enabled reasoning through magnetic field signature and resilient communications by means of non-terrestrial networks. 2 accompanying impact studies, will solidify Europe's position as a global leader in automated systems. MOSAIC leverages a pan-European consortium encompassing the entire ECS value chain, ensuring a comprehensive effort towards filling the European fabs and ensuring digital sovereignty. In essence, MOSAIC is an investment in Europe's future – a secure digital future of technological leadership, economic prosperity, and strategic independence.

Global environmental issues, social inequality and geopolitical changes will pose numerous problems for our society in the future. To face these new challenges and deal with them, there is a need to understand and appropriately utilize new digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics and biotechnologies. A-IQ Ready proposes cutting-edge quantum sensing, edge continuum orchestration of AI and distributed collaborative intelligence technologies to implement the vision of intelligent and autonomous ECS for the digital age. Quantum magnetic flux and gyro sensors enable highest sensitivity and accuracy without any need for calibration, offer unmatched properties when used in combination with a magnetic field map. Such a localization system will enhance the timing and accuracy of the autonomous agents and will reduce false alarms or misinformation by means of AI and multi-agent system concepts. As a priority, the communication guidance and decision making of groups of agents need to be based on cutting-edge technologies. Edge continuum orchestration of AI will allow decentralizing the development of applications, while ensuring an optimal use of the available resources. Combined with the quantum sensors, the edge continuum will be equipped with innovative, multi-physical capabilities to sense the environment, generating “slim” but accurate measurements. Distributed intelligence will enable emergent behavior and massive collaboration of multiple agents towards a common goal. By exploring the synergies of these cutting-edge technologies through civil safety and security, digital health, smart logistics for supply chains and propulsion use cases, A-IQ Ready will provide the basis for the digital society in Europe based on values, moving towards the ideal of Society 5.0.
