Organisation Creative minds for culture (CMC) form Latvia, Center for Sustainable Community Development Association (CSCD) from Romania and Elektrenu kulturos centras from Lithuania have developed a cooperation in order to create methodological material for the development of outreach youth work with youth at risk. The challenges faced by the organizations highlight the need for outreach youth work implemented in environment where the youth is located. There are different forms of outreach youth work that can be used depending on the specificity of youth work in a given neighborhood. The project partner organizations aim to provide quality youth work and leisure activities for every young person. In ordert to bring changes at local level, there is a need of sharing expertise and developing competences at international level, what is important for improving the quality of youth work in EU countries. Project participants will develop their competences in outreach youth work, share their good practices and generally improve the quality of youth work in their area.During the project there will be organized 2 transnational partner organization meetings, a study visit ""Outreach Youth Work Practices in Rural Areas"" and a training course ""Outreach Youth Work and Promotion of Youth Work Services"" with the aim to develop methodological material ""Introductory guide to outreach youth work practices in rural areas"". The project will improve the quality of outreach youth work in Latvia, Lithuania and Romania by fostering access to services for youth at risk; will develop the competences of those involved in youth work through mutual learning and exchange of experience; will strengthen the capacity of youth organizations in Latvia, Lithuania, Romania working with youth at risk; will raise young people's awareness of the services available to them and of their use.Almost 50 youth workers, representatives of partner organizations, volunteers, formal and non-formal educators and those involved in working with youth at risk will participate in the project activities. The results of the project will have a significant impact in project partner countries, improving the quality of youth work with youth at risk and on a wider scale, through results that will be made publicly available online."

However, there is strong evidence of an implementation gap in many European countries (e.g. the UK is yet to ratify the Convention). These implementation issues and the reasons behind them are shared and persistent across the EU.IARS has developed a strategic partnership, bringing together 5 countries (the UK, Greece, Italy, Spain and Romania) to run ""Shanarani"", as a youth-led, transnational project that will develop, test and implement innovative practices, which will help achieve multiple Erasmus priorities:HORIZONTAL priority ""Social inclusion"":Shanarani has its origins in the indigenous people of Purépecha. It is a valid name for both girls and boys. Shanarani will help prevent and combat discrimination, stereotyping and social exclusion caused by non compliance with the accepted norms due to gender identity. Gender discrimination is a persistent issue, which according to many surveys is shared among European countries. The commonality applies both in the forms in which it manifests itself, but also in its underlying reasons. We also know that discriminatory incidents due to gender result in young people withdrawing from social and educational environments. Furthermore, it provokes psychological issues that can result to social withdrawal, reduced academic performance and cases of early school leaving with long term effects, such as social exclusion and marginalization. Therefore, it affects young peoples' social inclusion, and has a continuous effect throughout their lifetime. Shanarani will tackle this issue in the non-formal educational environment, fostering social inclusion at a later stage, while it will also have positive impact on school performance.YOUTH: Promoting quality, innovation and recognition of youth workThe Shanarani project aims to develop innovative, CPD accredited tools to combat gender stereotypes and inequalities in young people through the capacity building sand certification of youth workers and other professionals by giving them new approaches to support and strengthen their work, improve their skills in the area of gender equality, and increase the quality of their interventions. Given the powerful influence of technology and virtual media on the young, especially adolescent population, it is important to develop methodologies that are adapted to the current situations they are living. The effectiveness of youth work methodologies and tools are closely related to the ability to motivate the recipient and promote their participation in the proposed activities. Shanarani aims to help youth workers reach young audiences through actions that are widely followed by youth, and which directly and indirectly influence them and their behaviour. Through the use of online gaming, film and theatre, youth participation in preventative programmes will increase. Our project will empower youth workers to upgrade their current work with young people at risk, increasing the effectiveness of their interventions allowing young people to internalize the values in which they are intended to form, so that they learn in a way that is playful, fun and closer to their interests.YOUTH: ""Promoting engaging, connecting and empowering young people""Traditional stereotypes and overt discrimination continue to be one of the major barriers to equal opportunities for young people. Their consequences are reflected in the labor market, promotion of violent attitudes (gender violence), attribution of gender capacities and attitudes (imposition of sex-assigned roles) and political discrimination (low representation of women in the political / public sphere). Despite advances in equality, the evidence shows that girls continue to suffer from discrimination, and this encourages the feminization of poverty and social exclusion. Shanarani will put young people at its heart by empowering them to project manage and quality control the project, while also collecting their views in order to design its innovative tools for youth workers. A Youth Scrutiny Panel will be formed, while young people will be engaged in all IOs and multipliers. In this way, Shanarani will provide an innovative approach (gamification) that can bring greater quality and great results in youth and gender work to combat sexism and traditional gender roles. The youth-led design of our game, app and the Shanarani curriculum will integrate dynamics that reinforce the contents that want to be transferred to the target group. These youth-led tools will directly empower the young, while giving access to youth workers of youth insights through the youth-led evidence base that Shanarani will create. Finally, Shanarani young people will be provided with high quality volunteering opportunities through the project's social action."

This project, Bushcraft as a Youthwork Tool (BYT), addresses 2 defined aims of that initiative: a)promoting mental and sexual health, sport, physical activity and healthy lifestyles; b)raising awareness of how sport can promote teamwork, intercultural learning and responsibility. The learning and development of this project will take place outdoors, an environment, in respect of physical activity, experienced less and less by youth today. The approaches and methods, framed as part of non-formal and relational practice, are designed to promote young people’s well-being and mental health. This innovative project focuses on a specific outdoor youth work methodology, BYT. It will provide youth work practitioners and youth volunteers with the necessary competences to directly engage young people in BYT activity; and it will producea 35-page accessible and practical, ‘Forest Schools and Bushcraft Practices’ E-Toolkit, based on the training, to support the delivery of BYT elsewhere. The 2-year project involves 6 partners: Essex Boys and Girls Clubs, UK, the applicant, with the necessary BYT expertise to deliver the training, 4 partners, to benefit from the training, SEAL Cyprus, National Council of YMCA’s Ireland, Futuro Digitale, Italy, and CDCD, Romania, and 1 partner, YMCA George Williams College, UK, to develop a quality curriculum and producing the E-Toolkit. The project objectives (abridged): 1)To train 24 youth work practitioners, from different EU contexts, in a new methodology, BYT, for engaging and working with young people. 2)To enable these teams of youth work practitioners to go on to deliver BYT activity for other young people. 3)To create a group of youth mentors to operate as ‘peer educators’ (youth participation in this process is fundamental) in the promotion and delivery of BYT programme through multiplier events and future activity. 4)To develop a ‘Forest Schools and Bushcraft Practices’ E-Toolkit, for use by youth work practitioners and young people (to be available in each of the partners’ languages). 5)To enable the EBGC TrainerTeam to acquire greater intercultural competence in delivering BYT. 6)To explore and affirm how relational/non-formal approaches in the delivery of outdoor education can enhance the general wellbeing of young people, including their mental health. 50% of the estimated 300 young people, participating in the BYT ‘pilot’ activities, are young people with fewer opportunities. The activities will comprise: 9 short-term training residentials across 5 partner countries, in intercultural contexts, involving youth work practitioners, youth volunteers, young people and researchers; a multiplier event in each of the partner countries to introduce the E-Toolkit and promote and disseminate the BYT programme. The programme will be delivered through acascading process: the delivery team will take youth work practitioners through each topic, practitioners will then take their youth volunteers through the same topics, and later, this joint team of youth work practitioners and youth volunteers will deliver the BYT programme to new groups of young people. The topics will comprise, for example: principles of survival; shelter building; fire lighting; water purification; knife skills; wild food and foraging. There will be workshops on broader social issues, such as reflecting on the role of sport and outdoor learning in local communities. Competence development is central to this project, from the viewpoint of youth work practitioners, the EBGC delivery team, youth volunteers and young people. Several learning assessment frameworks will be used for guidance; Youthpass, a Level 3 Outdoor Learning Diploma and the ETS Competence Model for Youth Workers to Work Internationally. The YMCA GWC will coordinate the evaluation of learning throughout. The work will culminate in the E-Toolkit, presented at the multiplier events in each country, the SALTO-Youth Toolbox platform and events such as the annual SALTO Tool Fair. Project aims:- 1)To create joint teams of youth work practitioners and youth mentors, to deliver BYT activities, immediately in the partners’ national contexts, and later, across Europe and elsewhere. 2)The production and dissemination of a practical, accessible, E-Toolkit, to be used by practitioners and young people alike, to run a variety of BYT activities. The main long-term benefit lies in the wider availability of an innovative, outdoor, NFL methodology, that can be used across the youth and other sectors, to contribute to the improvement of the health and well-being of Europe’s citizens.
