SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GAME NEED AND SOLUTION FOR THE NEED: Experienced in sustainability education and certification and somewhat frustrated by the levels of abstraction and bureacuracy involved, the participating schools have identified a need to rejuvenate schools' interest in rich, meaningful and fun work with environmental, economic, cultural and social sustainability. In an era of accessible digital game design and great youth interested in gaming, we intend to develop a monopoly-like Sustainable Development Game (SD-game for short) where whole schools, groups of stakeholders within schools and individual classes can plan and record sustainability actions in their community. OBJECTIVES: The project has the tangible goal of developing a prototype of a playable online SD-game that will take middle and high schools' sustainability work to the next level. However, through engaging students in a technology-assisted, cooperative design project, the project also aims at developing the participating students' broad-based competences (e.g. critical thinking, social skills, digital skills) required by today's school curricula and working life. Participating teachers gain experience of guiding students through such skill development, which spills over to their other work and serves as an example of modern, curriculum-required pedagogy in the participating schools. PARTICIPANTS: The project has three middle school partners: Sammonlahti school in Finland, Le collège Saint-Étienne in France and Kolding Realskole in Denmark. Work is planned such that there is a core team of teachers and students involved in various different roles throughout the project, but the project will touch all members of the participating schools. Four non-school actors in Finland are official project partners and bring different sustainability and digital expertise to the venture: Lappeenranta region environment office, Saimaa media center, Seepia Games game development company and Okka foundation offering sustainability certification to Finnish schools. Three universities with expertise in various academic aspects of sustainability function as advisory partners. ACTIVITIES AND METHODOLOGY: The project will progress through three years of game development and consist of the following main stages: research, manuscript (= parameters of the game) and visualisation (Year 1), creating the game (Year 2), and prototype piloting and further development (Year 3). Design-Oriented Pedagogy and other methods of student-centered, skill-oriented learning will be employed in the course of the project. Work will progress through an initial Learning, Training and Teaching Activity, two annual Transnational Project Meetings and local work and digital cooperation in between. IMPACT: At the end of the project, various dissemination activities will take place to spread information and experiences of the SD-game to interested municipal, regional, national and European actors advocating sustainability education. We expect many seconary schools to be interested taking the SD-game into play and in this way, the project will impact the sustainability attitudes and actions of thousands of youth in Finland, Denmark, France and most likely beyond. The project participants will gain an experience of a shared, significant and meaningful undertaking that will stay with them for life.

"""Be The Solution to Pollution"" is a two-year-long project consisting of 5 partner schools: Finnish(overall coordinator), Turkish, Spanish Portuguese and a Hungarian institution.Altogether there are about 500 students (a lot of children with special needs as well) aged 11-16 and 25 teachers willing to work for the project from different cultures but one common aim: to protect our environment. Because The World is alarmed by the skyrocketing amount of waste; each year we create more than 400 million tons of solid wastes - about 4,5 pounds per person each day! And the amount of waste we create is constantly increasing. This was our starting point to this project. And we know that if we want to create a better world for our future generations we know we should start doing something because schools play a major role in the education of tomorrow`s consumers and decision makers. The funding is of primary importance because most students cannot afford to travel abroad and the project is for them the only opportunity to meet foreign friends. The money will also enable us to provide funds for activities such as: workshops, visiting places of interest, and transport services. Our aim is to enrich the knowledge & awareness of preventing the polluting factors that affect our environment, because we want to bequeath a livable environment to our future generations. Also acquiring different practical recycling techniques, developing language and cultural understanding, improving ICT skills and improving English skills are some of our objectives too. Our project consists of five different types of pollution. Each partner country has selected a form of pollution which is crucial in their local environment. It’s important to the students in order to embed their spirit for non-polluted Europe to see all the places, do the research and have an experience of the nature and the effects of the human actions to the environment. When the students are doing their observations in the real environment their perception will be more comprehensive and empowering. - ""Be the Solution to air pollution"" deals with mainly Air Pollution. The mobility on this topic will be organized in Hungary in December 2020. During this mobility we will learn about air pollution and its consequences as well as possible ways of protecting the cleanliness of air. Our other aim is to learn about recycling and decreasing rubbish as well. - "" Be the Solution to light pollution"" focuses on Light Pollution. The mobility about this area will be held in Turkey in May 2021 and The main purpose of this mobility is to provide the basic knowledge of light pollution, how to measure light pollution and how to prevent it.- ""Be the Solution to Noise pollution"" is going to dig in to noise pollution. The mobility about this topic will be held in Finland in September 2021.- ""Be the Solution to Soil pollution"" deals with soil pollution and recycling. The mobility about this topic will be held in Portugal in February 2022- ""Be the Solution to water pollution"" concentrates on water pollution, how to save water and how to reuse it. The mobility will be held in May 2022.Besides some of our activities will be like; -Preparing the Erasmus corners and recycling corners at each partner school-Preparing the mini farm at the school garden-Recycling corners at the schools for each waste type (plastic / paper / metal / glass / composite / oil / batteries / e-waste) -Preparing posters, brochures and presentations about pollution and recycling-Photo exhibitions (Change & use it for another reason, Photographing the waste)-Daily motivation activities (Zero waste day)-Open air activities ( The Biggest Plastic Clean Up, Photographing the waste) Finally, by exchanging of good practises the awareness for a clean environment will be raised and the necessity of not wasting recyclable materials will be ensured. With the awareness that will be created on the students, all their senses of nature and their future will be activated, and will be supported by adults to achieve the goal. Not only will we focus on the conditions necessary to sustain the daily life of the current generations, but also on how valuable these studies are for future generations. So just like the quote said; ""Be a part of the solution, not part of the pollution” Maddy KhanWE WILL BE A PART OF THE SOLUTION, NOT A PART OF THE POLLUTION WITH THIS PROJECT"

"How can three European partner schools combine the common concern of strengthening central key competences of their pupils with the idea of expanding the intercultural capacity of action of young people through life-oriented learning? - Through a joint project in which the learners are encouraged to actively participate in the design of their ""school of the future""! The aim of our project is to make young people aware of their potential to actively contribute to the design of their living environments by developing their own creative ideas for a ""school of the future"" and working cooperatively on its implementation. By taking responsibility for their own learning and action and focusing on goal orientation and teamwork, the project aims at contributing to a comprehensive personal development on the one hand, and on the other hand to bring a European sense of belonging and awareness of active European citizenship across to the pupils. The possibility of working across borders gives the students the chance to shape European visions of the future together. In the long term, we want to encourage young people's willingness to get involved in improving their own reality of life and to recognise European cooperation as enriching. The work on the contents and activities of the project will take place within the school curriculum during special project hours and during three real exchange phases throughout the project. Project work within the school includes the creative development and shaping of ideas for a ""school of the future"" as well as the exchange of ideas with partner pupils through eTwinning and preparation for mobility. In both real and virtual situations, the pupils create different products for their ""school of the future"" during the joint workshops during the exchange phases. These products should both be concrete results that can actually be implemented in their own school during the project (e.g. the design of certain rooms or schoolyard areas or forms of school togetherness) and ideal ideas of what a ""school of the future"" could look like. This need not be feasible at first, but can be designed digitally or artistically. During their stays abroad, the pupils receive further impulses for designing their ""school of the future"" both by getting to know the partner schools and by participating in thematic workshops. All real and virtual exchange activities during the project are conducted in English, so that all participants can participate and international communication is encouraged. During the planned project activities, which all originate from their own life reality, the students should consciously and mindful deal with their environment. Through contact with the partner schools, they not only learn about the visions of the other participants on the subject of ""Future Schools"", but also get to know their (school) reality. The comparison creates an openness towards the ""other"" and promotes the joint development of ideas and the implementation of innovations for their own school. A central key competence is taking over responsibility for one's own learning process and actions. This will be promoted during project hours and workshops in the context of real exchange phases through forms of independent learning in which the students work together in teams. Interdisciplinary suggestions are given and the teacher is seen as a companion of the project. The ongoing exchange of ideas and results through eTwinning also contributes to a goal-oriented way of working. The participating pupils are between 12 and 15 years old. There are approximately 20 pupils per school working in the project groups. During each of the three real exchange phases, approximately 10 pupils will travel to one of the partner schools. This will ensure that all participants will have the opportunity to gain an insight into another school and to experience the country´s and partner school´s way of life and culture in direct exchange. To publicise the project results, all three schools will organise exhibitions at the end of the project to which not only those directly involved in school life but also the general public will be invited. A joint digital exhibition of the results will also be published in the TwinSpace. This will allow the dissemination not only of the main ideas of Erasmus+, but also of the concrete visions of young people towards a European ""school of the future""."
