The idea that the participating organizations cooperate in the exchange of good practices and developing of innovative tools in difficult times, regarding the development of today's basic skills and competencies needed to assure safer, faster and healthier mode of transport in times of pandemic. The project will be encouraging adults to learn skills, and be opened to new attitudes towards that can help them throughout their lives both in professional terms and in terms of their own lifestyle. The project predicts both digital ways on how to stimulate adults to use their bicycles more as a resilience mechanism in relation to COVID19 situation, but also to provide them with needed skills, and knowledge on how to maintain and take care of their bicycles. This will be realized by delivery of artistic workshops through which bicycles and maintenance will be promoted in a fun, participatory and interactive way. This context created the setting to work together to come up with a project that would try to bring positives out of a crisis by providing adults with a learning opportunity that will empower and assist them (assembling and repairing bicycles) and work with artists to develop skills in a new medium (artistic bicycle painting a)s an approach for motivation to learn more about the bicycles and their functionalities). The idea is to motivate people to join open air artistic workshops on which maintenance and repair courses/workshops will be delivered as well. The resulting products will be auctioned in events within the scope of the project and gathered in a publication in which maintenance courses/modules will be presented through the prism of art. The project was thus designed with the following objectives:- (Objective 1) Empower adults in learning a valuable new (basic) skill: bicycle assembly, repairs and maintenance in terms of both introducing them to a skill that will enable them to easily overcome certain challenges in the time of pandemic, but also to adapt an environmentally friendly and sustainable lifestyle.- (Objective 2) Develop skills in artists in a new medium for them (bicycle frames and other parts design and painting) that they can use as a new/supplementary source of income in time of pandemics. As it is known, a lot of fo professions faced serious economic challenges, and one of them is the artist profession of any type. (Target group 1): Adults, and adult artistsThe project will be aiming to empower these individuals by teaching them valuable skills in the assembly, repair and maintenance of bicycles that they can use in order to either sell services to supplement their income or in order to search for employment in the field (artists) or to motivate them to start to use, or more frequent use the bicycle as their main mode of transportation. T-Preparation of Intellectual output consisting of two main parts: a) basic maintenance and repair tips and tricks for adults, and b) inclusion of art in the cycling field as a potential tool for promotion of cycling among adults (including families) and as a potential extra income for artists affected by the Covid19 pandemic. The IO will be delivered in two ways: through videos - 10 in total, and courses -10 in total, available for both computers and mobile phones (mobile app will be produced, available on Google Play Store).- Delivery of 3 multiplier events in 3 countries: each event will be delivered outdoors and under all existing protocols at the given time. The multiplier events will be organized as full day events where art will meet bicycles, where adults and families can attend workshops on how to maintain and repair your bicycle, but also where adults can bring their bicycles in order for them to be beautified by the local artists through various modes of expression - painting, stickers etc. The kind of artistic expression lies in the hand of the partner organisation and the local participants, it can be everything from film or theatre, dancing or singing to painting and statuary - as accompanying parts of the events.-Delivery of local workshops (smaller version of the multiplier events), which will occur 3 times per country, prior to the release of the Intellectual Output of the project. These workshops will also be delivered outdoors and will have the goal to present certain parts of the intellectual output as they are being developed, thus involving adults and artists during the whole duration of the project. these events will be organized by each partner organization, in close collaboration with local cycling initiatives and artists. All of the organizations that will deliver the workshops will be obliged to document them in a way they think is suitable and attractive enough for the audience (video, painting, etc.

Vuelta Sports Association (Hungary), Fundația Comunitare Mureș (Romania), Mariborska kolesarska mreža (Slovenia) and the Bikeability Trust (United Kingdom) are committed to safety cycling education, and will do their best in the frame of the transnational cooperation to develop interactive videos, an interactive workbook for 10-13 years old pupils, and a blended training for trainers course for their teachers in order to make cycling education more attractive for all stakeholders, and to involve more children and teachers in their programs. The Hungarian and the Romanian project partners aim to develop their program further: in the frame of a previous Erasmus+ project all the needed paper-based educational materials have been developed, but there are no nationwide safety cycling educational programs in the two countries. The long-term goal of the project partners is to persuade the decision-makers on local, regional and national level to support the implementation of a safety cycling program nationwide. The intellectual outputs, which will be developed in the frame of Safe4Cycle2 will provide a solid bases for it, completing the paper-based materials. The Slovenian model of safety cycling education certainly has many positive pages, but it also needs some upgrades. In the Safe4Cycle project the can Slovenian project partner aims to transfer many good practices to other partners in Slovenia, as well as insight into the structure of operation and the implementation of different safety cycling programs. Above all, it is necessary to establish programs that will upgrade the cycling exam program in Slovenia and motivate children and adolescents to be interested in safety cycling in later periods. The project partner from the United Kingdom will have a consultant role in the project, as the Bikeability is a well-structured, long running program in the UK. The project partners aims to study the model of Bikeability, to get an insight to the program on the spot and to get acquainted with the approach of the UK program. The project partners aim to jointly develop interactive safety cycling educational materials, based on their experience, with changing good practices and their ideas at the transnational project meetings and even at the job shadowing programs, when they can study each one’s programs on the spot, participating at primary school lessons, training for trainers programs, etc. These kind of job shadowing programs are also good for have a look at the local circumstances, the advantages and difficulties, even the risks of safety cycling educational projects of the partners. Thanks to the experience and different approach the partners will gain during the 30-month-long transnational project at local level the activities of all project partners will be more received, the partner organisations will be more trustworthy, they will be involved more in cycling projects, so they will be able to affect local decisions that connected to cycling. In this way the project can help promoting and facilitating cycling at all on local or regional level. On national level all the project partners will contribute to improving the existing safety cycling educational materials by developing the intellectual outputs that can facilitate involving more children and more teachers in safety cycling education. Regarding the European level the long-term goal of the European Union is to reduce road fatalities to zero in the EU by 2050 (""Vision Zero""). Project partners believe that safety cycling education can contribute to achieve this goal - safety traffic education should be the basis of all safety road strategies, as children can be affected the most effectively. All the project partners have a vision about cycling, especially regarding children: cycling is fun, cycling provides freedom, and the children must be encouraged to ride their bikes - but in a safe manner."

Thousands of people use bicycle in European cities, towns (home to school or work), in free time, in tourism, but most of them get no education on traffic rules, how to use bicycle on the roads, or simply just how to behave in the traffic. If somebody wants to drive a car, has to take the driving license (dozens of theoretical and practical lessons). From this aspect riding in the traffic makes no difference from driving a car. Even the children are in especially danger. This is why a cycling road safety education program has raison d’étre in each European country. The aim of the project partners was to set up a standard educational program with the connecting Mentors’ teaching material which could be used in the future in all elementary schools. The educational materials has been translated and adapted to the national traffic rules of Hungary, Austria and Romania, and the material is also available in English. The partnership consisted of two organisations hading experience in field of cycling road safety education (AT and HU), the Romanian partner has just started to initiate such a program, and an advisor partner from the Netherlands, which is a world-wide famous country for its outstanding road safety and cycling culture. The educational material was set up jointly by the partners based on their previous experience. Parallel to the Mentors’ teaching program (IO1) and the school educational material (IO2), a free access online videogame (IO3) was set up, which is useful as a support material to the school education program, as a home guide for parents intending practice with their children and also for interested people not reached in the schools. The online version includes the most important basic elements of the safe cycling; it is also available in four languages (HU, RO, AT, EN) – www.safe4cycle.com/interactive. Doing so, this game could be a useful basis for further utilization in other countries. The supplyer company already strives to develop the online material, there are some interesting partners for the future promotion. The target group of the current project was the 9-12-year-old (in Romania 12-16-year-old) age group using or wanting to use bicycle on the roads. The school educational program has both theoretical and practical part.As the theme of the project is mainly a practical activity beside the theoretical job a lot of job-shadowing were built in as the best way to gain the most important practical details and good experience from each other. The 30-month-long project had 3 phases:1) Preparation - the school educational and Mentors’ teaching material was set up (based on the existing materials);2) Pilot project year in at least 3-3 elementary schools in each country in order to test the program in practice and collect the experience. Thanks to the big interest and needs in our countries there are more schools applying to take part at the educational program as soon as possible.3) Dissemination - the educational program through the free access online game was introduced for the public in the frame of cycling road-shows in the partners’ country (ME).Impact of the program is calling attention of children, parents and teachers, but most of all the decision-maker stakeholders on the importance of road safety education. By educating pupils the aim is to reduce the number of traffic accidents at least 50% in the next 5 years in the involved regions. Reaching this goal as a long term impact more people will use bicycle as a healthy and sustainable type of transport, which is an expanently grooving power of the tourism sector. All of this cannot work without a changed-minded social background. The Safe4Cycle project gives inspiration for the professional job and could serve as good and strong base to future projects.By achieving the goals a visible project with visible results has been created. The most significant achievements have come up at national levels:The biggest achievement in Hungary was nominating the Government Commissary responsible for cycling in 2016, Mr Máriusz Révész. Thanks to our lobby job and good cooperation with his department the road safety education became high priority topic of the Government Commissary. Starting closer cooperation with the Hungarian Police: by registering 153 policemen from 10 counties for the cycling Mentors’ Training program.Declaring the Certified Cycling Instructors’ program as Klimaaktiv partner (program of the Austrian Energy Agency) is a big appreciation. Furthermore, awarding the diploma also to Hungarian and Romanian experts is an international impact and important measurement of the Austrian Ministry.Starting cooperation with the regional educational institution in Romania in order to deal with cycling and traffic road safety education in the schools; recognising the power of the civil sector are excellent results of the international partnership.
