The latest results of national and international tests (PISA, TIMSS) in all partner countries have shown it is necessary to improve students' Math competences. The European Schoolnet (EUN) also claims that STEAM skills are becoming an increasingly important part of basic literacy in today’s knowledge-oriented society, while, on the other hand, the EU needs more scientists and science aware citizens. The primary objective of ""MA(R)TH - MATH, MUSIC AND ART WILL KEEP YOU SMART"" project is to use the interdisciplinary approach and connect Math (a subject with generally lower students' motivation) with Music and Art (subjects with generally higher students' motivation) to enhance their key competences in those fields. The second objective is to strengthen teachers' profile and raise the level of their professional competences so as to develop innovative teaching methods, take initiative in leadership in education and build capacity to work in transnational projects. Through cooperation with local institutions teachers are to strengthen their own and their students' civic awareness. The third objective is to include ICT knowledge and the working language of the project - English - in project activities so that both students and teachers also increase their digital, linguistic and communication competence. Finally, the same importance is assigned to the objectives of enhancing creativity, integrating students with fewer opportunities in project activities and promoting equality, as well as promoting other European values such as greater understanding of cultural diversity and a positive attitude towards students' and teachers' mobility for education and EU funded projects.MA(R)TH project will be presented to approximately 4100 students, teachers and staff, then parents in partner schools from 6 countries (Lithuania, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Macedonia and Croatia) and their local communities. Each school coordinator will form a team of teachers of the subjects the project is based on and students who will carry out the planned project tasks. Students' age is 13-18 and they belong to different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Other participants will be members of local community and experts connected with the topics of Math, Music, Art and ICT. Parents and members of local government will support the implementation of the project. MA(R)TH activities will include creating presentations, doing interviews, quizzes, questionnaires, writing texts, learning scenarios, drawing pictures, taking photos, composing music, making videos, participating in and holding teacher- student and student-student workshops, taking part in online meetings. Some of the topics to cover will be: fractions and music, Fibonacci series in painting, fractals, math in architecture etc.The project will have a website and a Twinspace where participants will share all created materials.Twinspace chat and online meeting option will also be used for collaboration. Virtual cooperation will be combined with 5 short-term exchanges of groups of pupils and 1 short-term joint staff training event. The short-term joint staff training event to be carried out during the first mobility will provide teachers with necessary competences on how to apply the interdisciplinary approach and use the new ICT tools (GeoGebra, Chrome Music Lab, create and maintain a website) and enable them to share good practices, their know-how, to connect and implement the rest of the project activities successfully.During the 5 exchanges involving students, they will continue to study different aspects of Math - Music - Art connection, develop their ICT and English skills, creativity and critical thinking, participate in workshops, study visits and share intercultural diversity. We believe the most important outcomes will be the fulfillment of the above set objectives.Concrete results students will produce at the end of MA(R)TH project are a depliant, a GeoGebra e-book containing tasks, students' work, presentations, pictures, workshop learning scenarios and video materials, an e-photo album and a calendar. Impacts will include increased quality of education seen in improved key STEAM competences and basic ICT and language skills of students as well as in strengthened teachers' profile. All participants will also develop greater respect towards diversity and understand the need to promote EU values.Long-term benefits will be the following: increased capacity of partner schools for organizing future EU projects, increased cooperation among members of school teams as well as between schools and local community, new interdisciplinary innovative activities that can be included in school curricula and the availability of all produced materials on Twinspace for future use and upgrade by all eTwinning members."

2020-1-IT02-KA229-079303Funder Contribution: 113,180 EUR"Our project team is composed of 5 countries.Italy,Spain,Romania,Lithuania,Turkey located into different parts of Europe. It involves 5 educational institutions with around 2000 participants, including 180 children with special needs, experienced teachers. Our project focuses on Secondary school students,(13-17ages) who will communicate via ICT, by means of our eTwinning common platform, and work together to put forward their ideas and to compromise.Environmental issues are main problems of all countries. We focused on creating a new generation to protect nature.According to Europe 2030 strategy, like an European countries we have had similar ways of teaching and develop similar transversal competencies built on the different bases of our national cultures, our methods of teaching, working and soft skill competencies. To implement our goals,we will work together in different countries involved in the partnership, within these 4 stages:1.Protected Ecosystem 2.Recycling 3.Responsible Water Consumption 4.Renewable Energies. Before starting the project, we conducted a survey and swot analysis among all students of our partner schools to determine the level of this knowledge it is at the level of Italian school %45 the Spanish school 52%, the Turkish school %,40 the Romanian school 45%, the Lithuanian school%40.Our surveys have shown us that nearly %60 of students don’t know how to protect environment. We think that we should focus on how to protect environment. At the end of the project, after two years of activity, the same survey will be served and comparing the results of these two surveys will allow us to determine the increase in knowledge in students in each of the partner schools in the field of ecology and state that the project goal has been achieved,as confirmed. When writing the project, our main goal is to make students more environmentally conscious, and to find solutions how we can solve them, to expand the colleagues’methodological toolbox using cooperation among subjects, learning modern methodological strategies and trying them in practice. In adittion to this,we believe that English is one of the most important subjects to teach, because our students must live in a global world. We think English cannot be done in an isolated way:it must be related to important subjects in that global world such as ecology.Acording to Swot analyzes and Surveys in partner schools:%75 of children know the rules of grammar but they have difficulty in speaking English. We will improve our educational practices in order to get better the four basic skills(speaking, reading, listening and writing)in English incorporating them into the Linguistic Project. That this way of working, sharing good practices from different countries, can lead teachers to improve their professional skills and the ability to introduce a variety of unconventional methods and ways to teach. The methodology to be used is designed to engage students using languages familiar to and interesting to them, and keeping with encouraging them to speak. It will strengthen the international cooperation through sharing good teaching learning practices.New methodological materials for learning/ teaching in this area will be innovative and it will encourage the environmental awaraness. The material will be widely disseminated so they are available to the general public to Europe. With this project, our task is to involve the students to an active research in the collection of information and scientific data observing and investigating nature, global warming responsible and water consumption, studying how renewable energy resources are exploited. The project will get better integration of all schools into EU base on the education. Our aim is to achieve the objectives of the Project by cooperating and working actively together with local institutions, teachers, parents and children..The main activities carried on will be:surveys and questionnaires, presentations by experts, different visits to places related to all the topics,World ""Important Day"" Celebrations, making different manual works(Terrarium, water filter, solar panel, furniture clothes bags from waste materials) e magazine,e newpaper about environmental protection.Common webpage to upload and download materials.youtube channel.Using different ways to evaluate the project results and its impact on the school communities. We want to offer our students the opportunity of having a qualified education, improving our methods of teaching, sharing good practises, developed by different partners of this project. Therefore, we are completely sure we will be able to get environmentally responsible citizens who are going to use different formats and ways to get to the information and this will be very useful for the future. We are concentrated on the environmental problems and solutions must be added to national educational cirriculums. The disseminitation of the project will spread our aims to all locals, national and international."

The main motivation for the project is connected with our wish to make the learning process in our schools more practical and close to real life. In international partnership we plan to collect and develop cross-disciplinary tasks for sustainable life which we will be able to use with our students for helping them see the application of their knowledge received at school and feel responsibility for the planet. At the moment the world is facing a very difficult time, which demonstrates us how connected we all are, how our steps influence other people and how careful and thoughtful we should be in order to be healthy and live in a healthy environment. The project objectives are:1. To make learning in our schools more exciting and practical with the help of cross-disciplinary activities for sustainable life: at least 16 new tasks will be worked out.2. To ensure that the tasks we have worked out suit students of different cultures and backgrounds: all the tasks will be tested by the partner schools in international teams.3. To reduce the risk of early school leaving and disadvantage by providing the students with competences they can use outside the school and become more successful and happy in life.4. To increase use of eTwinning opportunities by the partner schools for providing cross-disciplinary virtual activities to students during and after the present project. The final output is a toolbox of cross-disciplinary activities for sustainable life for the students in the age 12-15. The toolbox can be used by other teachers in the EU.Some examples that we are planning to develop: organisation of green workshops; making a project model ""Green town""; calculating the risks and making forecasts on the topic of the world pollution and ecological dangers; international camp ""ECO-design""; virtual museum exhibition ""Green world"", etc. In the project we plan to work locally and internationally. The international mobilities are divided into short-term joint staff training events (2 during the project) and exchanges of groups of students (3 during the project). The project participants are:1. Teams of teachers: they will collect, develop and test cross-disciplinary activities for sustainable life with the students. Each school has selected their project teams at the stage of the project preparation.2. Students of each partner school. There will be four students involved in each mobility and virtual work in eTwinning. The age of students is 12 - 15. There will be different students in each mobility, so that the project can provide international learning experience to more students.Narva Kesklinna Gümnaasium is the project coordinator. Latvian school is responsible for coordination of eTwinning activities, Lithuanian - for monitoring and evaluation of the project activities and results, Turkish - for dissemination of the project activities and results, Portuguese - for sustainability of the project results. Estonian and Portuguese partner schools worked together in the previous Erasmus+ strategic partnership project ""Challenging conflicts at school"". The partners from Turkey were involved because one of their coordinators has long term experience cooperation with Narva school and the new school would like to join the partnership. Latvian and Lithuanian schools were found via partner search in eTwinning. All of the partners started their communication on the present project in 2018 preparing the project application for the last year. Since the project didn't get support, during this year we worked on its improvement and stayed in touch. We expect this project to have a deep impact on the participating schools: the teachers will receive cross-disciplinary activities for sustainable life to use with their students in the age of 12-15. It will make make learning in our schools more exciting and practical; the school teams (teachers and students) will improve their international cooperation competences; the schools will develop as organisations, implementing new ideas and partners' best practices. They will receive experience and be able to work with intercultural groups of students. The students will be more motivated and we will reduce the risk of early school leaving and disadvantage by providing the students with competences they can use outside the school and become more successful and happy in life; the synergy created in the project will make all the participating schools stronger offering diverse expertise (all the project partners have their specific competences); the planned activities are directly connected with curricula of participating schools."
