Kazimierza Jagiellonczyka,Istituto d'Istruzione Superiore Axel MuntheFunder: European Commission Project Code: 2020-1-SI01-KA229-075976Funder Contribution: 193,470 EURSummaryThe report (Rocard et al., 2007) published by the European Union in 2007, emphasized that young people’s interest in the fields of science, technology and mathematics has dramatically decreased. They concluded that Europe's long-term innovative capacity will be reduced significantly if effective action plans are not taken.Children and time changed a lot and we as school, teachers and system should keep up with the changes. We expect students to be active, innovative, independent, creative, but as research showed we don’t really give them the opportunity to develop all these skills. The changes are happening so fast that we are actually preparing students for jobs that might not even exist yet. This is why it is of vital importance for students to acquire the 21st century skills like creativity, communication, intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, media literacy, collaboration, planning and problem solving.Goal of the project:With this project, we aim to increase STEM literacy in our schools.STEM that has brought an innovative perspective to the education has been given importance by the whole world in recent years and it mainly involves the interdisciplinary approach of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The STEM model integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm, based on real-world demands. What differentiates the STEM model from traditional education is cohesive learning, which shows teachers and students how the scientific method can be applied in everyday life, by developing the type of thinking based on solving problems by applying real-life solutions. In partner schools, to realize the miracle Japan created in 1980 and South Korea in Asia in 2000’s-we are obliged to raise an innovative, entrepreneurial and creative thinking generation who are interested in STEM fields. In these days when we witness the Industrial Revolution 4.0, the country of 'technological superiority' requires being strong and can be achieved by qualified work force in this field. Developing our students in STEM and Coding fields and creating a process in which students can benefit from Europe’s experiences in STEM within the framework of exchanges of good practices. By means of our collaboration with our European partners,we will enable our students to raise with the 21st century skills like creativity, communication, intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, knowledge and media literacy, collaboration , problem defining-formulating and solving that will enable them to be successful in this field. The project activities are fictionalized on sharing good practices among the project partners and adapting all activities to all schools. With the project activities to be realized; A project process in which students, who will make innovations that enrich the life, will be created and project based learning awareness is formed as a result of teachers’ taking theoretical information presented by Science, Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Physics and blending them with the practices of Technology and Engineering. Since our project partner schools do not have an engineering cycle in the classical curriculum, a project process in which teachers develop their skills related to the integration of engineering cycle into their courses is aimed. We aim to create a school atmosphere in which ,- we contribute to the logical thinking of students- students learn team work- we contribute to the increase in their self-confidence- we help them gain self-confidence in mathematics and science and make learning enjoyable for them- skills such as creativity and intellectual curiosity, knowledge and media literacy, critical thinking, cooperative work, problem solving are improved. For the continuation of STEM activities outside school hours and adaptation of cooperative learning by students; micro working groups will be created and activities that will make them compete with each other will be carried out. 10 percent increase in the mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology course grades of the students in the project partner schools compared to the previous academic year is aimed. It is an inevitable fact that awareness of STEM will change students' perspectives on Mathematics and Science. After the implementation of the project, it is aimed to increase the STEM activities by 10% in the course plans of project partner schools.6 LTT activities were planned during the project period. One of these for the teachers, five of them will be held for students. With LTT activity for teachers, participant teachers;-will learn the philosophy of STEM and integration process of it into courses,- will learn engineering design process/engineering design-based science education,- will learn project-based learning in STEM education,- will learn modelling in STEM education-will learn about 3D design processes,-will enrich their lessons with learning outcomes of other disciplines,-will increase their qualification in team working.

The latest results of national and international tests (PISA, TIMSS) in all partner countries have shown it is necessary to improve students' Math competences. The European Schoolnet (EUN) also claims that STEAM skills are becoming an increasingly important part of basic literacy in today’s knowledge-oriented society, while, on the other hand, the EU needs more scientists and science aware citizens. The primary objective of ""MA(R)TH - MATH, MUSIC AND ART WILL KEEP YOU SMART"" project is to use the interdisciplinary approach and connect Math (a subject with generally lower students' motivation) with Music and Art (subjects with generally higher students' motivation) to enhance their key competences in those fields. The second objective is to strengthen teachers' profile and raise the level of their professional competences so as to develop innovative teaching methods, take initiative in leadership in education and build capacity to work in transnational projects. Through cooperation with local institutions teachers are to strengthen their own and their students' civic awareness. The third objective is to include ICT knowledge and the working language of the project - English - in project activities so that both students and teachers also increase their digital, linguistic and communication competence. Finally, the same importance is assigned to the objectives of enhancing creativity, integrating students with fewer opportunities in project activities and promoting equality, as well as promoting other European values such as greater understanding of cultural diversity and a positive attitude towards students' and teachers' mobility for education and EU funded projects.MA(R)TH project will be presented to approximately 4100 students, teachers and staff, then parents in partner schools from 6 countries (Lithuania, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Macedonia and Croatia) and their local communities. Each school coordinator will form a team of teachers of the subjects the project is based on and students who will carry out the planned project tasks. Students' age is 13-18 and they belong to different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Other participants will be members of local community and experts connected with the topics of Math, Music, Art and ICT. Parents and members of local government will support the implementation of the project. MA(R)TH activities will include creating presentations, doing interviews, quizzes, questionnaires, writing texts, learning scenarios, drawing pictures, taking photos, composing music, making videos, participating in and holding teacher- student and student-student workshops, taking part in online meetings. Some of the topics to cover will be: fractions and music, Fibonacci series in painting, fractals, math in architecture etc.The project will have a website and a Twinspace where participants will share all created materials.Twinspace chat and online meeting option will also be used for collaboration. Virtual cooperation will be combined with 5 short-term exchanges of groups of pupils and 1 short-term joint staff training event. The short-term joint staff training event to be carried out during the first mobility will provide teachers with necessary competences on how to apply the interdisciplinary approach and use the new ICT tools (GeoGebra, Chrome Music Lab, create and maintain a website) and enable them to share good practices, their know-how, to connect and implement the rest of the project activities successfully.During the 5 exchanges involving students, they will continue to study different aspects of Math - Music - Art connection, develop their ICT and English skills, creativity and critical thinking, participate in workshops, study visits and share intercultural diversity. We believe the most important outcomes will be the fulfillment of the above set objectives.Concrete results students will produce at the end of MA(R)TH project are a depliant, a GeoGebra e-book containing tasks, students' work, presentations, pictures, workshop learning scenarios and video materials, an e-photo album and a calendar. Impacts will include increased quality of education seen in improved key STEAM competences and basic ICT and language skills of students as well as in strengthened teachers' profile. All participants will also develop greater respect towards diversity and understand the need to promote EU values.Long-term benefits will be the following: increased capacity of partner schools for organizing future EU projects, increased cooperation among members of school teams as well as between schools and local community, new interdisciplinary innovative activities that can be included in school curricula and the availability of all produced materials on Twinspace for future use and upgrade by all eTwinning members."

The specific objectives are:1. The development of design and realzation of additional curriculum aids for career education; 2. The development of the capacity of the teachers to initiate and use partnerships with local actors in the labor market; 3. The creation of a virtual resource center for career education; 4. To raise the awareness of the teachers on the situation of children with low opportunities. The project involves 80 teachers (20 of each country) of the the 4 countries, in creative learning situations and through cooperation for the benefit of students, parents and the communities of origin. The creativity, the playful look, the openness and the cooperation are core values that led to the design and implementation of this approach. The beneficiaries of the improved guidance and counseling services are the students, the parents and the community, and the teacher whose competences are developing is the change initiator. The Improvement of the service of orientation and counseling in our schools will allow customizing the educational plan to the problems that all schools are facing: students unmotivated for learning, pupils on the edge of early school living, children leaving school before getting a qualification, the lack of information from the field of labor market. The project achieved through strategic partnership with schools from the European Union that come with the different experiences of the other partners, with different procedures, with different expertise will make our schools a stimulating environment for training, the intertraining, for cooperation intending to identify the best resources that we can use in times of counseling and guidance. The European extracurricular activities and experiences of the teachers involved will increase the quality of education for a successful career at European standards. We propose this project, given that the rate of insertion of the graduates on labor maket is low, given that the teachers are not prepared to make carrer education, given that the parents do not know what advice to give thir own children and given that the public authorities have no coherent public policies for this. We can not solve all these problems with this project, but we offer a change starting with ourselves and sharing the best practices of our partners. The exact attempts to diversify the learning experiences of the students on the requirements of the labor market motivated us to train a larger number of teachers, students and parents in the adventure of self-discovery and in the discovery of their own vocation. The methodology used is modern, creative and innovative and, most important, duplicable. The project will have, through its projected and realized results, long term effetcson all actors involved: teachers, students, parents, authorities and primarily on our organizations.
