    Infections caused by resistant microorganisms often fail to respond to the standard treatment, resulting in prolonged hospital stays, higher health care expenditures, and a greater risk of death.1 Antimicrobials Resistant Organism (AMRO) or Superbugs are invisible, and can survive on surfaces for up to three days. That means that they can be transferred when one infected person simply touches another, or when the patient touches something on which the pathogen resides like a stethoscope or a TV remote control.2 Antibiotic resistance varies according to geographic locations and is directly proportional to the use and misuse of antibiotics. Active surveillance systems are in place across all European member states and Norway and are to be considered one of the main contributing factors to the reduction AMRO infections over the years. On the other hand the effort done up to now is not enough to eradicate AMRO/superbugs infections and ANTI-SUPERBUGS PCP will challenge the industry to develop solutions that in contact with resistant microorganisms can detect their presence and give real-time feedback to the user and at the same time share the information with the healthcare provider electronic record systems linking the infection with the place of the detection. The project will be developped with the support of Sara Bedin, who will provide her know-how in Procurement in Innovation.

    POSIDON gathers 5 European procurers facing similar problems in the sites they manage, affected by analogous pollutants (2 front-runners-Trieste, IT and Bilbao, ES-and 3 observers - Spaque, BE; Vitoria Gasteiz, ES; Baja do Tejo, PT), leveraging public demand to identify fit-for-purpose and cost-effective innovative and sustainable solutions to soil contamination. The common challenge faced by the buyers’ group is identifying a new, life-cycle cost-effective technology for soil and groundwater remediation, capable of decontaminating heterogeneous anthropic soils in brownfields with a mixture of industrial waste (blast furnace slags, construction & demolition waste, filling soils polluted by petroleum hydrocarbons) and soils consisting of clays and sands of marine origin, highly polluted by petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs and PAHs) and heavy metals (arsenic and lead). Studies on the state of the art, patent analysis, foresight scanning and early market engagement meetings, show that no available technology can meet all identified needs, thus appropriate remediation technologies cannot be acquired through traditional off-the-shelf procurement.With PCP, procurers aim to achieve ambitious improvements in terms of quality and effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability of new technology to bring to the market. R&D will be split into three phases: solution design, prototyping, original development and testing of 2 prototypes. Evaluations after each phase progressively identify solutions offering the best value for money. This phased approach allows successful contractors to improve their offers for the next phase based on feedback from procurers. POSIDON intends to create a critical mass through the consolidation of a pan-European network of procurers who, sharing their needs and efforts, can enable the development - through PCP - and subsequent deployment - through a PPI - of novel technologies aimed to cover bigger market challenges in areas of common European interest

    Patient Empowerment Individualized tackling of unnecessary stress, in particular when related to healthcare procedures, promises to enhance the autonomy and quality of life of many people and yield a significant contribution to self-empowerment, thus relieving careers and related persons from personal assistance. Not at least, also a considerable economic relief (see Impact). This is the topic the STARS consortium is determined to deal with. Of course, as will be shown, the objective is complex and ambitious and has to meet challenges from smart vital signs measuring to wireless real-time transfer of large data amounts to big data management. Nevertheless, concerning the expectable positive impact there is a large potential of revenue for the efforts. And, regarding present technological progress, it seems absolutely feasible to face this challenge when doing this inby a concerted, multidisciplinary, cross-linked effort. To achieve the aim, our proposal addresses an advanced, eHealth based concept for tailored avoidance and/or reduction of healthcare related stress, beginning as early as in the preclinical phase, proceeding during their hospitalisation until the end of the aftercare period. I.a. it can be expected that, recovery time will be shortened, harmful side-effects of sedating drugs will be prevented and costs will be reduced, which in sum will be an important contribution to a cost-effective healthcare system in the next decades.

    Public procurement represents +/-19% of the EU’s GDP. Historically a small and slower uptake of innovations has been witnessed along with the fragmentation of publ demand.. PE represents a fundamental driver of innovation and competitiveness.Urban regeneration conducted by Bilbao confirms that the development of mixed formulas publ-priv for projects of mutual interest entails higher quality, effectiveness+efficiency in the management of publ services. Innovation procurement of products and services can (i) be used to deliver societal objectives requiring new solutions not available on the market or too expensive (ii) solve problems related the commercialization of innovative solution (iii) improve quality+efficiency of publ services with better value 4 $. It is clearly set by the BRODISE project. Objectives:Mobilize publ+priv purchasers+cities networks of cities in SD, , to understand in-depth the technology state of the art and the innovation gap to be addressed by significant R&D,Structure+design a pcp initiative, leveraging the complementarity of the partners for bringing together the demand so create a critical mass for acquire cost-effective solutions, whilst creating new jobs and opportunities for business growth in Europe, specially SMEs. The driver is essentially economic. A complex challenge-based approach has been assumed by the consortium to:Confirm and describe a real technological demanding problem that impact negatively on the PE and on quality of life for all; Avoid the hyper-fragmentation of PP, pre-determine the condition for the development of new EU standard; Predetermine a competitive market, also enabling and preparing the participation of new players, Enable knowledge sharing.At the end the procurers will be able to lunch PCP and an earlier reality check of industry R&D Undertake efficient solutions for brownfields SD through PCP are: Decontaminate the entire brownfield, coordinate resources,use the most advanced innovative decont techniques.

    Taking into account the objectives of Vision 2020, the WHO's 2006 initiative for the elimination of avoidable blindness. When globally people with low vision are increasing as a result of the ageing of the world’s population. Where low vision not only affects the independence but has significant psychosocial and economic impact on the individual, the family and society. Major consequences of vision impairment include a child’s ability to pursue education and an adult’s ability for high quality employment, risk of falls, difficulties with daily living and increased dependence. PRO4VIP project has the objectives of : (1) the creation of an European wide network of procurers (RITT, US, FVG, BFW, AQuAS); (2) the definition of a common innovation procurement roadmap in the short term and in the long term and (3) the definition of the public procurement of innovation procedure(s) that best meet(s) their needs (that could be either a Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP) or a Public Procurement of Innovative Solutions (PPI) or both) and that in line with Vision 2020 would either support the early detection and the screening of functional low vision conditions or would support the provision for low vision services. This will be achieved through a staged process whose main steps are: (1) the identification of the shared procurement needs; (2) the analysis of the state of the art, the technologies available in the market and the existing patents; (3) the engagement in open dialogues with other procurers, end-users and suppliers; (4) the analysis of the different public procurement of innovation options; and (5) the definition of the selected procurement procedure(s). The consortium is an interdisciplinary team composed of procurers interested in the topic from different perspectives (Health, social & Assistive Technology), with entities having the expertise to support them in identifying their common needs, validate them with the end users, other procurers and the market.
