For those from particularly vulnerable groups such as LGBT Youths and young people from racial or ethnic minorities, their experiences of discrimination have a life-time impact and can have terrible consequences. For example, in 2016, the at-risk-of-poverty or social exclusion rate of young people born outside the EU was an alarming 50%. Social exclusion, discrimination and poverty have an enormous impact on the conformation of identity during adolescence and early Youth, settling the ground floor for young people to turn to violent radicalisation. Youth work has been recognized as a particular fertile space for prevention of violence, radicalisation and marginalization among Youth, by facilitating the development of soft skills and resilience to help young people cope and overcome difficult life situations. 1000Layers project proposes an innovative methodological approach – the Creative Identities Method – to fill in the current gaps on working with identity in Youth contexts. In particular, we wish to build on and contribute to current practices in addressing generic prevention of radicalisation leading to violence among Youth at the ground floor stage of Moghaddam’s six step model, building on EU recommendations and existing literature. OBJECTIVES1)Promote social inclusion, diversity and non-discrimination among young people through the Creative Identities Method (CIM)2)Engage, connect and empower young people using the CIM in order to: •Enhance critical thinking and media literacy among young •Promote intercultural dialogue •Fight against radicalization and violence among youth by providing alternatives to identity constructions based on single-story and victimhood narratives.3)Contribute to quality and innovation in youth work by: •creating participant-centred tools for youth workers based on the CIM•supporting youth workers in developing and sharing effective methods to work with identity related complexities and conflicts, tackle racism and better reach marginalized young people. TARGET GROUPSYouth workers, young people (16-30), staff of partner organizations, organizations in the youth sector, policy and decision makers and youth experts. We expect to involve 400 participants from the different target groups in project activities, and disseminate the project to the over 10,000 people that compose our consortium's social network base.ACTIVITIESThe project main activities are: -Continuous management, assessment and dissemination -4 transnational partner meetings-Development of the Creative Identities Method (CIM)-Development of two intellectual outputs: 1) 30 identity cards and 6 activities; 2) a youth worker handbook on CIM-One joint staff training-8 local pilots to co-construct project outputs-8 local multipliers and a blended mobility -An international final conferenceMETHODOLOGYWe will co-construct the “Creative Identities Method” together with young participants. The CIM will merge the most relevant tools of Process Identity Theory into embodied, participant-centred, creative methods commonly used in Youth work: Theatre of the Oppressed, Storytelling and Process Work. The CIM will provide tools for Youth workers to engage in identity exploration with young people and as generic prevention of radicalisation leading to violence. RESULTS, IMPACT AND LONG-TERM BENEFITSWe will develop a new methodology and two outputs to explore identities in youth contexts in order to promote social inclusion, non-discrimination, critical thinking, critical media literacy, and resilience among young people. The outputs will support Youth workers and provide a resource for generic prevention to violent radicalisation. Outputs will be available for download in English and all project languages, from the project web, the Erasmus+ Results Platform and the SALTO-Youth Platform. At least 400 participants and 40 organizations active in the youth field will be trained and/or informed on the Creative Identities Method. We expect to create and promote an inclusive and diverse vision of European identity, fighting single-story and victimhood narratives within identity constructions among young people. The Creative Identity Manifesto, created by young project participants, will promote this vision and will be broadly disseminated.

The ultimate consequence, however, is the increase in the number of socially excluded children and young people, especially those with fewer opportunities, because of the lack of support and means to overcome the many obstacles in their lives.OBJECTIVES1. Promote the social inclusion and equal opportunities of children and youth by providing new methods of developing key competences and common values, complementary to those employed by formal education and training systems;2. Encourage sharing among participating organisations of innovative and participatory methods and practices (based on sport, art, digital media and/or non-formal and informal learning) aimed at enhancing competences and learning in children and young people to subsequently devise (and apply) a basic methodology that effectively promotes their full development and equal opportunities;3. Create and/or strengthen collaborative networks between organisations active in the field of art, sport, politics and/or non-formal, informal and formal education of children and young people;4. Increase the capacity of organisations (and their staff) to operate at transnational level and to implement joint initiatives aimed at promoting participatory, alternative and attractive learning methods.ACTIVITIES, PARTICIPANTS (NUMBER AND PROFILE)1. Project design, management and preparation- 2 elements belonging to each organisation;- Group of children and young people from each organisation: the reference number that will be used will be the 20 participants, in which at least 5 will be children and young people with fewer opportunities.2. Transnational meetings- 2 elements belonging to the participating organisations, preferably those with project management and implementation functions.3. Training course- 2 youth workers from each organisation.4. Local events- Same as activity 1.5. Presentation - local dissemination event- Same as activity 1.6. Blended mobility- 1 youth worker from each organisation (to track and facilitate engagement and interaction between participating youth, preferably mentor) + 5 young people with fewer opportunities from each organisation (selected from and by the youth group with whom organisations work locally).7. Closing - local dissemination event- Same as activity 1.8. Project monitoring and evaluation- Same as activity 1.METHODOLOGYThe preferred methodology in the project will be non-formal education and informal education, as complementary methodologies to formal education. They will be participatory, inclusive and innovative methodologies in the process of developing key competences in the participants.RESULTS AND IMPACTS- Basic, participatory, innovative and attractive methodology for the development of competences in children and young people, which can be adapted to various territories and social contexts at European level;- Developing the capacity of participating organisations to design, implement and participate in projects and initiatives at national and/or transnational level;- Development of collaboration networks;- Empower youth workers from participating organisations with crucial competences to improve their intervention with target groups;- Empowering participating children and young people with key competences for their full development as European citizens, in line with the recommendation of the Council of the European Union (22 May 2018) on key competences for lifelong learning.

In our work for intercultural acceptance we’ve noticed how quite some values disappear from the mind-set of our beneficiaries when there is “important” sport competition event and when they take sides in opposite fan groups that show strong animosity towards each other. Then we can see certain negative behaviour shown by the same beneficiaries that are usually positive and accepting different individuals around them in regular youth work activities. Until youth work is separated from sport, we will not be able to reach as good results as possible for intercultural acceptance in our communities. We need to practice more the healthy competition and teamwork in sports among our beneficiaries. This project responds to those needs and aims to encourage our youth workers to develop more youth sport work projects that will explore and extract all the possible positive aspects of sports for developing consistent positive intercultural acceptance among our beneficiaries. There was no similar opportunity yet organised – a PBA where interested organisations could discuss the alarming situation in Europe nowadays (when it comes to intolerance, discrimination, exclusion, etc.) and try to find solutions for it through developing youth SPORT work projects together. The core activity of the project was – 8 days long partnership-building activity (PBA). It was organised in the youth hostel in Novi Sad, Serbia from 4th till 12th April 2017. Project gathered 35 participants, trainers and staff from 19 organisations and 15 countries (RS, AL, BA, ME, XK, CY, ES, GR, HR, IT, MK, PT, RO, SI, TR). There were 14 young people with fewer opportunities. The goals of this PBA were to develop capacity of youth workers and partners in Erasmus+ KA2 Western Balkans Youth Window and Sport strands and to establish partnerships for youth sport work projects tackling current issues of discrimination, marginalization and exclusion in Europe and diversity in general. We expected from participants to be able to represent their sending organisations and enter into new partnerships and new project proposals during this PBA. Through increased quantity & quality projects, we expected the increased competences and readiness of young people in communities for taking active stand on fighting discrimination and intolerance and promoting respect of diversity and intercultural acceptance. We expected at least 380 youngsters being indirect beneficiaries of our project (20 per partner organisation). On European level, our project has as impact 8 newly initiated projects with possibility to include additional partners from other countries of Europe, as well. Thus, the impact that this PBA gave to our direct participants and partners will be multiplied also to other organisations / youth workers in Europe.
