Comprising 28 partners from 14 countries (10 MS and 2 associated countries), TITAN will provide an extensive platform for the development of a wide range of innovations that aid transparency and address key challenges identified in the European Green Deal (EGD). With a broad mix of cutting-edge technology providers SMEs and start-ups, linked to leading research centres and agri-food stakeholders, TITAN, through dedicated business support together with a €1.25M open call, will provide a fertile breeding ground of ideas and solutions for businesses to thrive within the new strategy of the EGD. Through a co-creation approach, 15 innovative solutions including exploiting Blockchain, AI and IoT will be demonstrated in a first wave of TITAN transparency related innovations. These will be supplemented by a further wave of innovations on themes selected by stakeholders in an open call that will be open at the end of Year 1 of this four-year project. The new innovations will deliver transparency solutions in the areas of food safety and authenticity, traceability, health and sustainability and improving information to the consumer. The innovations will be supported by cross cutting WPs dedicated to transparency, ICT solutions, policy, business support, management and communication and dissemination. The project is led by industry facing, not-for-profit organisations with extensive outreach capabilities within Europe and beyond that will enhance the transferability and upscaling and impact of TITAN solutions and provide the building blocks of a demand-driven economy that provides healthy, sustainable, and accessible food for its citizens.

CLEVER technologies will support the deep edge computing paradigm, moving computing services closer to the end user or the source of the data to reduce power consumption, reduce capacity requirements, and latency for mission critical applications. Furthermore, CLEVER will overcome traditional limitations of edge computing in terms of limited resource availability by providing an effective framework for seamless use of federated resources in the edge-cloud continuum. CLEVER will demonstrate processing solutions for AI at the edge through four use cases: (1) digital twin for in-factory optimization, (2) smart agriculture for high yield eco-farms, (3) fully automated material deployment, and (4) augmented reality for shopping sites. Through the achievement of its goals, the CLEVER project will help to position Europe at the forefront of the intelligent edge computing field, enabling growth across many sectors (manufacturing, agriculture, smart environments, augmented reality, and others). By lowering the barriers for utilising edge computing for artificial intelligence applications, CLEVER will open the door for European Industries and SMEs to leverage state of the art technologies, driving their development and growth as leaders in their sectors.

FARMWISE provides new insights into water quality, quantity, soil health, and nutrient management. FARMWISE's state-of-the-art framework fosters knowledge sharing between scientists, farmers, and policymakers in a co-creation environment (Systems Thinking). It consolidates existing collaborations, and promotes new long-term cooperations between European organisations, including Water4All (BRGM) and Water Europe (SITES). The FARMWISE project will develop improved tools based on artificial intelligence (AI) for more efficient European water policy and decision-making founded on research-based technologies to solve the most burning water pollution and climate change problems. For this purpose, the FARMWISE consortium brings together the best European water, agricultural, climate, and AI researchers to handle the sustainability of water resources, the natural environment, and efficient agriculture in the highly diverse European landscape in view of present and future climate change. FARMWISE's impact will increase interest and bond cooperation of quadruple helix stakeholders for science-based solutions. FARMWISE evaluates, monitors, and implements gender and diversity balance in the consortium during the planned activities (T7.4). All partners' have established policies to foster gender equality, diversity, and inclusion for all employees. UEA holds a Silver Athena SWAN award in recognition of good practice in recruiting, retaining, and promoting women in STEMM subjects.

It positions its innovations both at the level of intervention on the field and the capturing of the effects of PA over time, intelligently exploiting the information acquired before, during and after direct intervention on the field. AgriBIT combines augmented GNSS and EO information with 1) on-field and on-machine sensors and actuators, and 2) expert agricultural knowledge to deliver simple, high precision and continuously available services. It develops and extends advanced Artificial Intelligence algorithms to fully exploit this rich set of inputs to recommend actions to farmers building on past history and present context and to ease their workload through improved automation. AgriBIT delivers operational services (3 GNSS-enabler services, 8 GNSS-enabled services) and 1 European sourced high precision GNSS affordable receiver that cover the complete value chain of PA, from monitoring to application and precise and automated machinery guidance. With 70% of European farmers active in small to medium operations, AgriBIT’s European sourced high precision GNSS receiver at an affordable price is a major technological and societal contribution to Europe’s farming community. AgriBIT delivers collaboration services supporting farmers and service advisors, but also 3rd party developers for whom open interfaces are provided both at service level and as channels for advanced Big Data Analytics innovations. Over 36 months, AgriBIT includes 20 months piloting at 3 locations, 12 months testing of collaboration services and delivers TRL-8 results. AgriBIT involves 5 solution providers (4 SMEs), 1 research centre and 2 farmers cooperatives with 11.250 members.

The use of ADSs is seen by many as an opportunity to increase the economic and environmental performance of the agricultural sector. In spite of considerable public and private investment, uptake and use of ADSs by EU farmers has been limited, especially among small and medium farms. These farms require cost-effective DATs that help them increase their environmental and economic performance and cross the digital divide. The overall objective of the Farmtopia project is to democratize digital farming by creating a paradigm shift in the way ADSs for small farms are created, deployed and paid for. This will be achieved by a) fostering co-creation of ADSs to ensure they will solve real problems and fit the needs of small farms; and b) lowering the cost for both farmers and ADSs providers, by creating a set of reusable software modules, a number of business and governance models, and identifying public provision of infrastructure that can enable scale-out of ADSs. Using a multi-actor approach, Farmtopia will engage farmers, ADSs providers, farm advisors, scientists, policy makers, AKIS actors and other relevant stakeholders in 18 Sustainable Innovation Pilots (SIPs) in at least 15 countries across Europe, and guide them in co-creating, deploying and piloting innovative ADSs while designing, adapting and validating appropriate business and governance models to support them (such as the French CUMA model, which is embraced by >225.000 farmers). The focus will be mainly on specific crops and livestock for which current ADS provision is inadequate as well as on crops that are of regional importance, strengthening resilience, sustainability and food security across Europe. 9 SIPs have been pre-selected and 9 more will be awarded through an Open Call, enabling a dynamic response to a changing policy and technology landscape.
