    Project summary Urban ReLeaf is an action-oriented mission to advance citizen-powered science as a central resource for inclusive urban green planning in support of local policy making, European strategies and monitoring systems (e.g., the Green Deal, Copernicus), and global efforts such as the SDGs (e.g., Target 11.7) and GEOSS. The project will: (i) assess current urban greening policy processes within six European cities and co-create solutions that use citizen observations to complement existing data ecosystems and decision-making; (ii) support the validation and long-term inclusion of active and passive data from citizens for urban environmental monitoring within authoritative data streams, including GEOSS & Copernicus; (iii) Mobilize and empower communities through widespread participation in issues of public interest surrounding urban green infrastructure; (iv) develop a community of practice around topics related to the use of citizen observations for urban planning to foster knowledge exchange and develop capacities across multiple sectors; (v) produce flexible and innovative governance solutions to help scale-out inclusive urban green transitions in support of the European Green Deal and UN Sustainable Development Goals; and (iv) promote recognition, adoption and trust of citizen observations and other novel data ecosystems for environmental monitoring to trigger innovation within public institutions. The project is coordinated by IIASA, who led the WeObserve project, and involves partners from previous successful H2020 citizen observatory projects and as well as six cities (Athens, Cascais, Dundee, Mannheim, Riga Utrecht) that are willing to embrace new data streams for urban greening planning and policy making and to fully engage with citizens including marginalized and vulnerable groups. Urban ReLeaf is also supported by technology partners and those with strong links to Copernicus and GEO.

    AICCET will enable better prognostics, the process by which disease is diagnosed and the outcome of treatment predicted. This allows for improved treatment planning, a pre-requisite for a better patient journey and experience. It does this by avoiding unnecessary hospital in-patient care, enabling outpatient procedures using technologies which do not require highly specialised personnel such that clinics can move closer to the community they serve. This move away from hospital based healthcare is further enabled through monitoring patient health at home and managing chronic disease with solutions provided to the GPs, all moving healthcare further into the community. Examples of such interventions include: 1. Inch-worm technology provides a solution which reduces risk to patients, makes the device easier to use by NHS staff, and moves the procedure away from a costly secondary care location performed by specialised clinicians into a community out-patient setting. Public Patient Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) is particularly important for accelerating the impact of this technology, with significant potential for reducing healthcare inequalities as traditional endoscopy has reduced efficacy in certain patient phenotypes (high BMI, infirm or living with disability) and colonoscopy screening has reduced uptake in those with a lower socio-economic background due to difficulties accessing transport to a central hospital or from fear of the current procedure - leading to late diagnosis and poor prognoses. (Manfredi - University of Dundee). 2. Power frugal algorithms used in wearable electronics for the detection of scabbing in sheep can be applied to outpatients in the community who are soon to have invasive surgery. It has been shown that exercise prior to surgical operation helps positive outcome of surgery. The device will help reduce visit hospitals during the pre-habilitation and also post-habilitation phase allowing doctors to monitor remotely the progress made by the patients as they undergo prescribed training exercises. The AICCET consortium has gathered 14 organisations (5 universities, a further education college, 5 civic bodies, 1 hospital and 2 NHS organisations in the Tayside region to address the challenges of community healthcare. This consortium is in direct alignment with the "shift left" taking place in the continuum of care enabled by technological and process solutions that offer the highest quality of life for patients through the simultaneous provision of improved quality of healthcare and reduced costs of provision. AICCET is putting in place the mechanisms to accelerate impact in community healthcare of innovative research created by these 5 universities. AICCET sets up the foundations of a healthcare technology ecosystem addressing the barriers for research and innovation and increasing the connectivity to accelerate impact in community healthcare.

    As cultural artefacts, video games are complex, multi-faceted products that encompass creative practices from character and narrative, interaction and gameplay design, architecture, product and environment design to sound design and composition. Technically they bring together software engineering with maths and physics, AI with networks and user data. Bring these together with a dynamic and competitive commercial environment and a disrupted technology environment and a growing cultural significance and you can begin to appreciate the challenges faced by this industry. SMEs operating in the video games sector are subject to technological, market and platform disruption where platform access and 'discoverability' are significant challenges to product viability. These factors are exerting a downward pressure on innovation and the creation of original IP in the Dundee cluster. The InGame partnership will pursue a highly collaborative, embedded approach to R&D by establishing a dedicated a R&D centre at the heart of the cluster. Artists, designers and creative writers will be co-located with technologists and business specialists to offer a dynamic and responsive resource to engage with three significant high-level challenges - consolidated from issues raised through local consultation, a survey of over 700 UK games studios and the trade body's blueprint for growth - where combined collaborative R&D could lead to significant growth, sustainability and intensification for the computer games cluster in Dundee. Creative Risk: Over the last decade the dominant business model in the Dundee games cluster has shifted from a publishing model where development costs are borne by the publisher in advance of sales income; to a platform model where individual games companies carry the cost of development in return for as larger proportion of the sales revenue. As a consequence the risk attendant with the development of original IP for the games market is, more often than not, fatal for start-up and micro-SME studios. Technological Innovation: Working practices in this cluster are characteristically solution focused and iterative, and often inventive and ingenious. However, technology innovations are not systematically captured or tested for generalization or re-use value. Commercial pressure on value chains has inhibited SMEs from taking on the risk of high-value innovation activity resulting in lost economic opportunity and inhibited cluster growth. Organisational Development: The cluster is characterized by a high number of dynamic micro-SMEs creating content for mobile, tablet and PC gaming platforms. The city is also home to a smaller number of mid-sized SME's with established product portfolios ranging from original franchises, sub-contracted development for established franchises and studios developing games for console. There is a growing professional services sector (accountancy, legal) and cultural scene (galleries and events). R&D in organisational development in this context relates to start-up at company level through to cluster and ecosystem development. The education sector is foundational to the cluster; Abertay University's Center for Excellence in Computer Games Education is characterised by active and mature collaboration between businesses, universities, and agencies of every scale. The University's longstanding relationship with national and multi-national games companies offers a unique opportunity to catalyse the value chain in the Dundee cluster. The academic partnership with Dundee University in Design for Business, and St Andrews School of Management's expertise in Creative Industries offers a world-leading research base for the R&D partnership. The InGAME R&D Center and cohort of Creative R&D Fellows will establish a new mode of engagement for industry and universities to work effectively and responsively to meet the challenge of cross-sector collaborative R&D in the Creative Industries.
