Description

Hematologic neoplasms pose a major medical problem worldwide and account for ~10% of new cancer cases diagnosed in the developed countries. The proposed NEXT_LEVEL project aims at strengthening research, development and innovation (RDI) potential of the Institute of Human Genetics, Polish Academy of Sciences (IHG PAS) located in Poznan (Poland) in the field of hemato-oncology. Within the project, the IHG PAS will establish strong links with three internationally leading research institutions: University Medical Center Groningen (University of Groningen, the Netherlands), Center for Medical Genetics Ghent (Ghent University, Belgium) and the Institute of Human Genetics, University Hospital of Ulm (Germany). The NEXT_LEVEL project will leverage scientific excellence of the IHG PAS in hemato-oncology and promote its position in the international interdisciplinary environment. The project will enable efficient transfer of expertise from the advanced EU laboratories to staff members of the IHG PAS, by strengthening existing ties and establishing new links between the partner institutions. This will be achieved through transfer of best practices from partner institutions, facilitated by joint conference attendance and workshop organization, focused staff training stays, expert visits, cooperative publishing and outreach activities. Project activities will increase chances of joint European initiatives aimed at understanding hematologic neoplasms. The expected long-term impact of the twinning action is to strengthen the IHG PAS both as a competitor and collaborator within the European Research Area, while simultaneously boosting regional specializations of the Wielkopolska region.
