Pals Web TV : Youth empowerment through Community Reporting and Peers Learning

Description

"Pals Web TV project started in November, 2015 and finished in July, 2017. It was based on the concept of using community reporting and peer learning as an inclusive method to empower youth communities from different regions of the world to capture and share their stories. This was achieved by providing vulnerable young people (young people with mental health conditions and those coming from disadvantaged areas) with both media skills and the necessary platforms to tell their stories in the format of TV show. This project allowed the creation of a WebTV https://palstv.eu (supported by a free and open source content management system) as a solution to give voice to young people, in a fun and informal way. The platform allows real-time collaborative work among a team of youth contributors from Europe and beyond. An App complementary to the Web TV was created and it is available to be downloaded for the Android https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.capitanquimera.palstv and for Apple devices: https://itunes.apple.com/es/app/palstv/id1172270729?l=en&mt=8.The key innovations in the project were not just in the application of community reporting with vulnerable youth but also in how these have been integrated into sustainable structures and activities for local communities: PalsTV provided community with reporter training to optimize the use of local learning and media resources in order to equip youth with fewer opportunities and to improve their chances of finding employment. Each participant developed his skills through expression, journalism, photography, storytelling and social media tools. PalsTv included also training on sustainability and income generation for the youth communities, and supported them for developing sustainability plans. In addition to this, an open and free of charge online training course about community reporting and digital/video storytelling was developed for young people from countries inside and outside the consortium: https://palstv.eu/page/21/online-training. The online training course was designed in a way that students can enrol themselves and get the knowledge and skills of a community reporter from home using their own devices. At the end of the course students have received Youthpass certificates. To ensure wide dissemination of the project findings, PalsTV Project has organized national youth showcases in each of the partners’ countries where digital and multimedia youth creations were showed, local authorities, institutions, representative and people concerned by the topics addressed attended these events. Furthermore, an international showcase was held in Kathmandu, Nepal. A broad variety of dissemination products were developed to involve participants and stakeholders, including leaflets, posters, newsletters, pen drives, mugs, badges, t-shirts and postcards (https://palstv.eu/page/3/downloads) The project run in Spain, Macedonia, Nepal and Indonesia allowed the participation of 100 young people from targeted communities in the development of internal and external communication channels, which they will definitely continue using after the end of the EU funding.IMPORTANT TO NOTE: All the annexes mentioned in the section ""Summary of the main results"" can be downloaded here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/m2cif9tq2oejo8q/AAAoZdoDOJRn1sPVM4q6OVMGa?dl=0"
