Mining The Past, Looking for/looking after the mining past

Description

"The Condorcet Lens High school in the Haut de France (project coordinator) and im. Jana Smolenia High school of Bytom in Silesia (project partner) propose a European project named “Mining the Past”. Its aims are to help students to re-discover the European importance of the cultural, historical and social heritage of their areas, by making them committed, involved and self-directed mediators, in their places and abroad. To accomplish this, the students will have to develop a set of language, communication and numerical skills that they’ll need for European discussions and cooperation. As both schools are located in socially and economically disadvantaged areas, the project is primarily aimed at pupils whose access to culture and international exchanges is often limited. The main criterion for the selection each year of the delegates (10 students per school) who will participate in the planned international mobility will therefore be their motivation and commitment to the project. The other students will take part, either through the ""Mining the past"" club or in class, in various activities organised on the spot, in the field or at school, contributing to the project's influence. The steeringn the project. The activities carried out during the fou committee of the project will be composed of the stewards of the two high schools and the four people in charge of the project: The two French coordinators (polish and documentalist teachers) and the two polish coordinators (english and geography and history teachers). The teachers of English, French, German, History and natural sciences from both schools will also participate in the organization, preparation and implementation of the various activities. The activities carried out during the four mobilities planned for this the project will be highlights of this endeavour; they will be prepared, followed and accompanied by activities that will give the opportunity to the largest number of participants to join the project. The first mobility (C1, October 2020, Bytom) - ""History, Daily Life and Culture of Miners"" - will allow students to discover the rich mining heritage of Silesia, where this tradition is still alive, and thus highlight the cultural links between these two European regions. The second mobility (C2, April 2021, Lens) - ""Territories in Reconstruction"" - will give them the opportunity to explore various forms of rehabilitation of post-industrial architecture in a region of Europe where mining is a thing of the past. During the third mobility (C3, October 2021, Bytom) - ""Mining countries, societies on the move"" - students will be able to examine the contributions of the various social movements in European mining countries, as well as the ecological challenges facing the inhabitants of these regions today. The work carried out during the last mobility (C4, April 2022), focusing on the biodiversity of post-industrial areas, will enable students to actively participate in the promotion of approaches to revitalize the mining heritage through the creation of a multimedia exhibition. Each of these activities will be broken down into several concrete and collaborative actions. These activities will lead students to develop and strengthen linguistic and communication skills, in accordance with the principles of the action method for learning modern languages. Training and the production of various multimedia digital media will help to strengthen these skills, helping pupils to develop tools for international cooperation and collaboration. The Ste Barbe festivities (December 2020 and 2021) will be a highlight for the promotion and dissemination of the project's results, involving all the pupils implicated in the project and local actors in each country. The different multimedia productions will be presented by the student mediators in the two schools and in different cultural spaces in the two regions, with the exhibition ""The ecology of post-industrial territories"" being a final highlight of the project. The website ""Mining the Past"" will bring together all the results of the project and contribute to its dissemination. The signing of an agreement between the two partner schools, prepared by the steering committee, a precise calendar of meetings and face-to-face and distance exchanges organised both upstream and downstream of the activities, as well as a clear division of tasks and responsibilities will allow the project to be managed efficiently. Subsequently, this project will find a natural extension in the partnership between the Hauts de France and Silesia through the continuation of school exchanges between the two high schools."
