Description

Entrepreneurship and Supporting Special Needs. Context We are an inner-city school in a part of London which is known for being ethnically diverse. A large percentage of our children are from a low socio-economic background and are troubled by the local 'Post Code Wars'. We continue to seek to enhance our high standards of teaching and learning in the best ways possible. Objectives The aim is to further inspire our pupils to become better global citizens and neutralise the influence of 'Post Code Wars' through a global arena and stronger links with our partner school in Madrid. The concept of becoming life-long learners across borders is slowly becoming clearer to them and with the additional sharing of good practice of our work week experience and the partner school's experience of peer support for Special Needs pupils we aim to equip pupils from both schools to create a stronger working force independent and proud in their chosen field whatever their different abilities, fully understanding that political borders and different languages are not insurmountable challenges even in the face of Brexit. with skills needed to communicate and collaborate to promote the global dimension of young citizens of the world. We hope to support our staff through further CPD in language learning and reflecting and sharing of the best practice in their teaching of entrepreneurship. We wish to collaborate with our partner teachers in Spain in order to help improve the competency and motivation of our staff in supporting pupils to include other pupils with different abilities and special needs. We hope that the scope of this project will reach all our staff and pupils with benefits to the community in general. Methodology The idea is for key teachers to meet and plan lessons and share resources which can then be shared with all necessary staff in the schools. Pupils will go through various preparatory lessons to ensure they have a full understanding of aims, objectives, outcomes and expectations. They will share work with partner pupils at regular intervals creating joint projects at various stages. Pupils will enhance skills in language, collaboration, reflection, communication etc. They will use skills of planning, creating, filming, music, editing, analysing, language, drama, art, design and technology. This project will also promote tolerance, empathy, consideration, literacy, geography all with a real purpose. Staff will confidently collaborate to teach designing, launching, running of new businesses using ICT skills, art, maths, drama etc. Impact At regular intervals, the work of staff and pupils will be assessed and evaluated through shared assessment systems decided at the time of planning. These will clearly show the progress being made and the impact on both schools. The transnational aspect of this project is expected to inspire pupils and staff motivating them and improving their communication skills, critical thinking, speaking and listening, reading, writing, presenting and understanding as they present ideas and resources in a different physical and cultural environment. Long Term The project will promote the global dimension by producing better global citizens. It also clearly promotes working across borders and prepares pupils for the skills needed in an adult working environment and reiterates for staff better communication and understanding of the global aspect.
