Augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) have the potential to improve students’ learning outcomes, attitudes, and career aspirations in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). However, the didactical use of AR/VR as a catalyst for innovative, effective STEM teaching is still in its infancy. This project focuses on the co-creation, together with teachers in upper primary education and lower secondary education, and evaluation of evidence-based professional development units aimed at stimulating the teacher competences needed to purposefully design and implement AR/VR-supported STEM-teaching. The goal is to improve teacher competences, STEM-teaching, and Dutch students’ STEM knowledge, attitudes, and career aspirations.
