City logistics is an area of intense research efforts and great public significance. Within this project we intend to gain in-depth knowledge of the complexity of interacting transportation networks by extending the view of city logistics in urban environments to the transport of public utilities, such as water and sewage. Employing an interdisciplinary perspective using insights and models from (city) logistics and asset management in cities, as well as research focusing on cooperation between organizations, the project aims to increase our understanding of the dynamics associated with fulfilling basic citizen needs. Furthermore, we aim to build models for increased insights through agent-based modelling and simulation, along with developing insights into cooperation between partners and look for patterns and approaches that favor such cooperation. The present project will develop these ideas by bringing together the diverse stakeholders (e.g. governments, private and public utility companies, transportation companies) in this field and develop an action plan for further research.
